Leto stood there looking out the window and watching Sphinx run around and pull Jin into a game. He could hear a yelp of protest from Jin and it brought a smile to his face. About six months ago he wouldn’t have been able to hear them at all. It was hard to imagine how things could change that fast. He still didn’t remember much of that day, just a loud screech and being flung forward into the seat in front of him. Then everything had gone dark. When he woke up, everything was silence. He didn’t understand how much he enjoyed sound until it had been taken from him. It had been a game changer. He had grown up in a household that had learned sign language because his dad had completely lost hearing in one ear when he was younger and it was just easier to talk to him in sign. Everyone in the household learned it, at a young age but he hadn’t expected to need to rely on it. His siblings had all been supportive, his family had all been supportive and it had meant a lot.
When he had lost his hearing friends had deserted him, he had been shown people where less tolerant but he had also been shown you didn’t need tons of friends, you just needed a couple good ones. He had seen that with Vega who had stayed by his side thrown himself into really learning sign language so he could talk with Leto. He had seen that with layren and thayne. With his family, it had helped him grow. Well at least he had hoped e had grown from the experience. He would never take what he had for granted ever again,
