Quote: You're out and about doing whatever it is you've got on your agenda for the day when you just so happen to spot a dark patch of color among the snow that lines the side of path you're on. Upon closer inspection, it's a leather wallet, stained from the dampness of the snow. Peeking inside, you find two things: one, a crumpled list of people's first names with random objects scribbled next to them and a collection of dollar bills. A lot of dollar bills. In fact, at first glance, it looks to be well over two hundred dollars. There are no other items in the wallet - no identification, no credit cards, nothing to help you identify the wallet's owner, just a shopping list and a wad of money. Looking around the area, it's clear that nobody else is around. What do you do?[ Cygnus barely noticed that it was Christmas time. Usually, like anyone else his age, he adored the season. Presents, for one, and time with his family. But he had decidedly less family than he used to, and he really didn't want to think about it.
So he was going to just focus on powering up and looking for his brother instead of any of the rest of that stuff. His parents were too sad to care about him right now, anyway, and he was too angry to really understand how his acting out was only making things harder on them.
He did not even bother to sneak out any more. He just left, and did not care if they figured out he was gone or not. Let him get in trouble. Grounded. He could get out of a house, because he was a super hero. There was nothing they could do to keep him there if he didn't want to be.
And he didn't. At all.
So he decided to patrol, though he did not actively seek out energy signatures. There weren't very many out anyway, and the ones he did feel were either too far away or too strong for him to do anything about. Of course. He couldn't do anything, ever.
What sort of super hero was he?
His foot kicked something that did not feel like snow or even a rock, and he looked down. It was a wallet, it looked like, and he bent down to pick it up. He didn't open it just yet, looking it over curiously and then furtively looking around to see if anyone had seen him pick it up.
Finders keepers.

Anser, on the other hand, was always seeking out energy signatures. She was usually seeking out energy signatures that were Chaotic so she could beat them into dust and destroy them in the way that she should as a superhero, but today, she came across an energy signature that reminded her of Mimosa's. That was a younger senshi, like her! It was a different level than her, but it was a younger senshi like her nevertheless. Maybe she could make a new ally, like Mimosa! Or like Cybele. Or like Nicodemus. She wasn't picky she liked all allies and friends-- She skipped through the snow, stopping when she saw the boy senshi--oh, like her brother, Encke!--and pluck up something from the ground. What was that? Why was he looking around all suspiciously? Was he trying to find who it belonged to? ... Oh! It was a wallet! Anser jogged over to the fellow chibi senshi, lifting her hand in a wave. Unfortunately perhaps for the other, he had been spotted. In fact, he was spotted by someone who leaned in and attempted to take a close look at what he was holding. Lithiasaur Sorry this took so long fdgdfgd

Cygnus rolled his eyes when he felt a White Moon energy coming toward him and saw the source of it waving. Great. Someone coming up to take his prize, it looked like. He was not in the mood for sharing, and furrowed his brow in an obvious show of this feeling.
"I found it first, so it's mine. You just saw it after I picked it up!"
He was not about to let her take the credit for it. He could probably turn it in, sans any cash in it, and maybe be rewarded for the effort of at least getting the owner back their identification or credit cards or whatever. Seemed like a simple enough place.
Except when he opened the wallet to look at the ID, there was none to be found. In fact, there were no cards or pictures or random garbage to indicate anyone used this wallet at all. There was only a bunch of money in it.
Whoa, wait, what?
"What the ********, there's a ton of money in here!" He couldn't help but exclaim, though he had only recently picked up cursing. It seemed cool enough, and if he was giving up his whole 'super hero' deal, he might as well really embrace the things that got kids in trouble. Cursing was a big one, as far as he knew. Still not the most mature of kids, he was running on basic ideas of trouble making.
"This is definitely mine."

"It's not yours!" protested Anser, when the chibi in front of her declared it was his. How rude! How childish! They were superheroes. They weren't supposed to be keeping any money they found for themselves; if anything, they would get a reward for returning someone's wallet in the end, because that was what people did! Not that Anser would care if she didn't get the reward, giving the wallet back was the right thing to do-- Wait, what? Anser peered in a bit closer, looking at what the other chibi was glancing through. That was a ton of money. Who had lost this? What did they need the money for? There was no obvious identification so far as she could see; did this belong to a criminal? Did it belong to someone who was trying to keep a secret? -- Wait. There was something else in there... "Jus' cause it's a lot doesn't mean it's yours," scolded Anser, as she reached for the little piece of paper she saw in the wallet. She wasn't terribly interested in the money; she just wanted to know who it belongs to. "We should figure out who this belongs to; that was probably a lot of money to them!"

"It is now!" Cygnus countered, sticking his tongue out. He was good at playground arguments, at the very least. Those he had plenty of experience in and knew that even if he lost the logic part, he could win the bullying part.
That was sort of his motto, before he ever became a senshi and tried to 'better' himself. Now, it was all too easy to fall back on old habits.
He shook his head, doubling down on his stance that this was his money. He had found it fair and share. He moved to pull the wallet away from her when she reached for it, surprised she would try to take it from him and then realizing she was after the little piece of paper he hadn't bothered to look at before.
She was more than welcome to paper.
"Here, you can have that." He tossed it at her after a quick glance. A list of some kind, but it was not one that would be filled out now. He did have a moment of doubt, thinking maybe it was a christmas present list. But how were they supposed to know who it belonged to if they had no ID and didn't even put their name on the paper? Even he knew, at school, that if he didn't put his name on it, he wouldn't get any credit for it!
Really, whoever this was had lost all right to claim the money. Yup. That definitely sounded fair to Cygnus.

Anser was about ready to yell at the fellow chibi--why was this boy so mean?!--when she got the list tossed at her. Distracted from her rant for the moment, Anser scrambled to swipe the list out of the air before it fell into the snow and became too hard to read. Quickly, she unfolded it, eyes widening when she realized what she was looking at. A list of names. And a list of objects. There were toys, little gadgets, blankets, sweaters, dolls, even a video game she saw on the list, some items crossed out, but most not. That was probably what the money belonged to. And this chibi wanted to keep it? What was wrong with him? Distressed further by the revelation, Anser turned the list around, unfolded it fully, and pushed it towards the boy's face. "How can you say finder's keepers or whatever when this is someone's damn Christmas list? We gotta figure out who this money belongs to!" Agitated, Anser added, "Or it's not just the owner you're being mean to, you're being mean to the people they wanted to gift, too."

"Like I care what it is!" Cygnus grumped, folding his arms stubbornly over his chest, the wallet and money tucked under his arm protectively as he stared at her. He was not going to back down, damn it: there was no way he was going to let her get the better of him when a bunch of money was at stake!
No matter how angry or sad or pleading or christmas spirit-y she tried to look. And that was that.
He hesitated.
"We can't find out who it belonged to anyway, and there are probably hundreds of people with those names in this city! We wouldn't be able to find any of them, let alone get them the presents or whatever!" Not that she had suggested that, but his senshi side was getting the better of him. Try as he might, he was not actually a bad kid on the inside, and the idea to buy the presents and deliver them had jumped into his brain as soon as the list became clear.
But still, it was impossible.
"Unless you're also an annoying ELF on top of being an annoying senshi?"

Anser let out an almost theatric gasp when Cygnus snapped that he didn't care, holding a hand over her heart and pulling her head back as she furrowed her brows. How could he not care! This was someone's Christmas list! This was someone's Christmas joy! At his next accidental suggestion, though, she softened a bit. Maybe she was getting through to this fellow young superhero! Maybe this chibi cared more than he was letting on! "I mean, maybe we can figure out who knows all the people on this list? Maybe we can't find a Sam, but we can find someone who knows a Sam, a Sara, and an Elliot?" Anser seemed to ignore the intentional insult of calling her an elf, tapping her chin. If she was a Christmas elf, fine! At least she could actually do nice things for people! If Christmas Elves actually existed, they were basically superheroes in their own right anyway. Superheroes of Christmas. After all, weren't they the ones who did all the real work of making toys in the stories? She shrugged. "If anything, we could go to the police and leave our names! If no one else claims it, I've heard they'll call you about the money sometimes." That was what her brother-in-law had said once, and she believed him. "At least then the Christmas joy has a chance of continuing!"

"That would take all night or more!" Cygnus whined. He looked at the wallet again, feeling his need for the large sum of money waning when compared to how much work was going to go into this whole christmas list thing. Really, the easiest answer was just for him to run off with it and let her do whatever she wanted with the list.
But it was just too hard for him to actually make the move. Maybe he would always be a wuss who couldn't do anything, when it came down to it. Even in a simple situation like this.
Frustrated, face turning red, he listened to her plan and sighed.
"Fine, we'll do the cop thing. That sounds easiest. Ugh. I guess I'll just find another fortune in an abandoned wallet and keep all THAT money." He folded his hands over his chest, but he held the wallet in his tightened fist under his elbow. He didn't try to run off with it or hide it, at least, and watched her with his irritated glare, like he was blaming her for something bad happening.
Even though she was actually the one being the hero, and he was just being a brat.
"I don't want to be a hero of anything, though. Not Christmas or anything else. So you take it." He tossed the wallet to her, even if she wasn't ready to catch it.

"Then we take all night!" When the grumpy, red chibi started swearing he would just go find other money, Anser rolled her eyes. And here she thought she was getting through to the other chibi. Apparently, he still had his head up his a** and now he was just going to find another wallet and steal some other mon-- Whoa! Anser scrambled to stop the wallet from falling to the ground, reaching down and snatching it out of the air before it splashed back into the snow. Dismayed, she looked up to him. On one hand, she had the wallet in her hand, and she was willing to take a few steps back and hold it a bit closer just to make sure that the wallet stayed in her hands, considering how interested the boy seemed in just keeping it. How awful. On the other hand, how could he not want to be a hero? "Why don't you want to be a hero?" asked Anser, knitting her brows. "We're sailor senshi. We're supposed to stop Chaos and help the people of this city and the world. We can actually try to stop all the bad that happens, or at least put a dent. Why wouldn't you want to?"

Cygnus looked red in the face, shaking his head and refusing to answer. He did not want to talk about his reasons for not wanting to be a hero any more. Really, he never felt like he'd ever been a good hero anyway. No, he was a failure on all fronts, and it was stupid for him to think that a little bit of power and a secret identity would change that.
He was better at just being the bully and the brat on the play ground, and nothing much else.
"Because we can't stop any of the bad that happens at all, and if we think we can we're just dumb! There's too much bad stuff out there and it's not going to stop just because a couple of kids want to play hero!"
Maybe he was echoing something he'd been told, or maybe it was how he really felt now. Either way, he was upset, and he wanted to run away. "Just take the wallet and take care of it, I don't even care. I'm just going to go home."

Anser reeled back at the sheer amount of pessimism that was projected back at her in the face of being a superhero, and some part of Anser wasn't sure how to take it. What did they mean they couldn't do anything? What did he mean that there was too much? What did he mean play hero? She wasn't just playing hero, dammit. She couldn't just play a hero. If she was just playing at being a hero, then she couldn't do any good. Then she couldn't have an impact. Then she couldn't protect the citizens of Destiny City, couldn't protect her mother, couldn't protect her brother--though she guessed it was arguable that her brother had to protect her, being big and transcendent and all--but she had to do good, she had to be a hero, and the fact that he didn't want to be one too made her eyes well up just a bit. But she swallowed it down. "We can do good. Maybe we can't fix everything, especially not alone, but we can certainly help! It's even in little things like bringing a wallet back, or it's sometimes something that's big to someone like chasing a supervillain off away from a civilian! Or even... getting their starseed back! Or stopping them from being abducted!" That struck a chord in her, and Anser couldn't help averting her eyes. "But fine. You can leave. Just think about it, okay? That kind of thinking is what lets the evil win. And we can't let the evil win." With that, she turned heel, starting towards where she was fairly sure the nearest station was. (Hopefully not the one that mean corrupt took her to--)

Seiana_ZI Cygnus is so sorry. I think that's a fin! Cygnus saw that he had upset her, and it just made him feel worse. He had not meant to make her cry or stomp all over her dreams of being a hero, but he couldn't just let her think it was easy and fun. He thought that way before, too, and now his brother was gone. Having super powers didn't let him do anything about that, after all.
So what was the point of them, if he couldn't even save his own family? The most important people to him, and they were in just as much danger as anyone else, even with a 'hero' living under the same roof. Hell, his brother had been one too. Whatever happened to him, it was probably not good.
And he was probably never coming home.
He nodded his head very stiffly and watched her as she turned and walked off. He stood there for a long moment, then powered down and turned to make his way home.
