“Well this is most unfortunate.” He said to no one in particular. The wallet had been found by the random chance and luck that was him wandering around at night with a habit of keeping his eyes glued to the ground because he wanted to avoid the fact he looked like he was better suited for Halloween rather than ‘christmas’. That or a gothic love story protagonist? Love interest? He honestly didn’t read romance novels or watch too many period dramas so he wasn’t sure what archetype he’d fall under. That aside, he’d found a wallet with no name, no real way to track down who’d lost it, and a decent wad of cash.

The morally upstanding citizen part of him said to go turn it into police. The more logical part said, given there were no cards, they’d also have no way of verifying who it belonged to. Not to mention Police also were not entirely trust worthy and therefor, would probably pocket the cash themselves. The wad of names and items was also useless. It wasn’t like he could cross reference them and hope for the best. Vlad flipped the wallet back and forth in his hand as he walked further along the pathway, trailing behind the prints left by other pedestrians earlier in the day.
The fwip fwip of the wallet hitting his hand back and forth matched the steady crunch of snow and gravel under his shoes as he kept on his path, wondering what he might buy with the extra cash he’d gotten. The thought of turning it in or looking for the wallet’s rightful owner had long since left him- after all, it would yield no result and serve no purpose. So, he might as well pocket the money and donate the wallet to some goodwill type place or something. That would be charity enough on his part. As he walked he thought on the fact he hadn’t seen his family in a while. Much less, he’d never bothered to contact them and they were rather… insistent on his visiting for the holiday. Not that he would. But the spare cash would ensure that he sent them a gift and they might not bother him about the whole ‘I purposely avoid you all just because you exasperate me to the point I want to just leave.’
As he reached the street corner, yellow-white florescent bulb warm and giving the world its dusk pink glow from light pollution, Vlad thought about what could he send that wouldn’t cost him a proverbial arm and a leg. The answer was pretty much nothing. In the end, they’d complain about him not being there, and wanting him to come home for the holiday and spend time with his family and eat food that okay yes would be good and also free but really he had no true purpose for such things. He was better of sending them all a card and calling the day good.

He blinked, looking up at the crosswalk signal.
Yeah. A card would do just fine.
