Quote: One of the stands at the Emporium's carnival seems to be constantly swarmed by people. Taking a closer look, you see that they're selling... hot buttered rum? There seems to be a butterscotch flavoring for those not old enough to drink, as well. What could be the big deal about it? You take a break from your busy life (or shopping or whatever it is that you’re doing) and decide to give the drink a try - and find that the secret recipe has the most curious of side effects! For whatever reason, the buttered rum has brought out a childlike side of you that you haven’t seen since… well, since you were a child! For the next twenty-four hours, your mood has lightened up tremendously and you’ve suddenly got the inquisitive, playful and energetic nature of someone half (or more!) of your age. What in the heck was in that drink? It had been a long time, years in fact, since he'd had his ear and lip pierced and he had stuck to the same jewelry the whole time. He took it out and cleaned it, of course, but otherwise it was never changed. It wasn't like he was worried about getting things into the holes, since he did every time he had to put his jewelry back in after cleaning things, but it was just that he was lazy about it. He had them, he'd taken good care of them, but other than that he didn't care about new metal going into the holes. He didn't need anything fancy, why would he?
But he'd slowly, over time, come around to the idea of maybe changing the bar he had at the top of his ear - his industrial. Not telling Dessie his plans he'd asked her to join him on a quick shopping trip. The plan was simple, at least he thought so, maybe he'd go down the rabbit hole and get another piercing too. It had been a long time and he'd sort of jumped right in the deep end all those years back. He'd had nothing before his industrial and just walked into the piercing studio, with his mother, and gotten it. He'd done the same for his snake bites as well. Nothing simple first - no lead up. Just dive right in and then nothing.
On the way to the piercing studio he'd planned to go to they came upon the carnival. He'd heard about it, who hadn't? And he might have passed by, he did want to get a new bar, but the smell filling the air had grabbed his attention and he headed right towards it. "Lets get a drink...then we can go to the piercing studio." Well, now Dessie knew where they were going. Oh well - drink first.

Dessie didn't particularly want to go out. It was cold and she was grumpy, then again when wasn't she. School was wrapping up and soon the whole family would be doing their annual England trip for the holidays. She was annoyed, stressed, and just in general peeved. To make matters worse Ian insisted they go out. He refused to tell her exactly where they were going but she honestly assumed he wanted her opinion on presents without the others around. Since he needed a babysitter to keep him out of trouble it didn't take much convincing to get her to come with him. The had found a parking garage near where ever he wanted to go to and started to walk towards a fairly populous shopping district only to come across one of those little quaint holiday fairs that popped up here and there around Christmas. One of the booths was selling hot drinks, and the smell wafted across the area. It smelled pretty good really but she didn't particularly want to stop. Ian on the other hand, had a different idea all together. He of course made a beeline towards the booth, making her follow him scowling and saying, "Seriously? A piercing studio? I thought we were grabbing a last minute gift or something. You don't need any more baubles in your face and if your getting something somewhere else I really don't want to be there for that. Gross."

"I've had these for years and I've never changed them. I've only ever removed them, cleaned the area, and put the same jewelry back in. I wanted to get something new. I was hoping for an opinion. on what to get. They normally have a lot of options...at least for an industrial...I don't know about the snake bites...I think it's just various studs or hoops and I'm not big on hoops in my lips." Maybe some other studs for them but he really was looking to just replace the bar, or at least find another option. It was the same one he'd been pierced with, meaning it was also a bit oversized. It had been long when he'd gotten it, to allow for swelling, but not it was bigger than need be really. He just didn't feel like going shorter in bar length.
Flashing his ID for a drink he ordered one for Dessie also, she got the version without any alcohol in it, since she was underage. "Come on, have a drink and lets get going." He would have thought she'd like to see it if he got pierced, someone sticking him with a needle, and see him in perhaps a bit of discomfort. It wouldn't be like his industrial, no matter what he got, as far as he knew. Most said that was one of the more painful piercings...so he'd already gotten that out of the way.

Dessie sighed, not really up for fighting with Ian over something he was doing to himself. Besides she could at least suggest stuff that would be less dangerous in a fight, even if she wasn't much of a fashionista. Hell she still tended to dress more like a bum since she garnered less attention that way. With a roll of her eyes she took the warm butterscotch drink he handed her and muttered, "Whatever, its your face." She sipped the drink, making a curious face at the taste. It was sweet. Strange and sweet. Not something she would buy a second time at least but she also wasn't going to waste it. A few more gulps and the drink was gone, now she just needed to toss the empty cup away. Biting her lip the young woman lined up with the closest trashcan and threw the empty cup like she was throwing a basketball. "Oh, oh, oh... And its good!" She cheered when the cup bounced a little on the can rim before it fell into the trash. "Come on Ian lets see what else they have here," She grabbed his hand and tugged him deeper into the carnival, curious to see just what was going on. Maybe there were even rides they could get on. "Ooooo you think they have cotton candy? I really want some cotton candy."

"I'm not doing anything new to my face - just an ear if anything." He wasn't entirely sure he would do anything new but he did want new jewelry for his ear and his lip. He was tired of the same things, even if they were simple and easy to deal with. He normally wasn't much for wanting to fit in or even wanting to necessarily look appealing to people, though he was sure he did, he just didn't care for what was in and what wasn't and such.
Sipping on his own drink, taking it slower, he wasn't going to gulp it down like Dessie did. His was spiked where as hers wasn't and he wasn't looking to drink anything fast, he wasn't much for drinking ever. Plus he rather liked the flavor and was enjoying it, slowly, as he tilted his head watching her toss the cup out. He was surprised, and found himself laughing, when she called out that the shot she took was good. "Do we need to get a basketball hoop at home now?" He questioned.
Ok...so Dessie was grabbing him and dragging him off. For someone who didn't like touch she seemed ok with it now. Finishing his drink, nearly spilling it as he was tugged along, he found himself laughing more. "I'm sure they do! What sort of carnival wouldn't?" Ok....so maybe he was feeling off. He wasn't drunk, or tipsy, he knew that so what the hell was going on. Soon enough that question ,that worry, was gone.

Dessie giggled and tugged the older male behind her as she poked around the carnival getting distracted with all the bright colors and cheerful music. "Ian, Ian, Ian... Lookie!" She pointed to a particular booth where there were stuffed animals hanging up on the walls of the prefab 'building'. "Its one of those ring toss games. Lets play! I bet I can win a stuffed animal before you can!" She dropped her hold on him and raced off to the booth where she fished out some cash and handed it over, bouncing slightly the entire time. A small part of her mind knew something was off, it knew that there was no way in hell she would be acting like this. Giggling over nothing, cheerful just because, and willing to spend hard earned money on a rigged game that would net her a prize that was likely cheaper then the cost to play the game. It recognized this shift in personality but nothing it 'said' even registered. Dessie still giggled, she still shelled out money, and she still had a great time tossing tinsel ring after tinsel ring, determined to win a stuffed snowman.

"No you can't! I'll win one before you!" Ok, so he really wasn't looking, or acting, like he normally would as he raced over to the ring toss game and offered up money for himself. "I'm going to beat you!" Maybe when this was all over he'd realize something had happened and not just to them, that other people were acting out - older people. Something had happened while there.
While Dessie was happily tossing rings and buying more so was he. He was never the best at these sorts of things, Ian was not that good at aiming small rings when he tossed them, but he continued to try as he laughed and nudged at Dessie to try and throw her off her game. "I'm going to win that prize." And then he'd gift it to her - of course. She wanted it and he wasn't going to be mean to her. Well...ok he was just going to be a little mean.
When this all wore off he really was going to wonder about all this. "You still have to - a-after this find me a new bar. I need a new one...something colorful and pretty!"

"No your not! I'm gonna win first!" Dessie giggled and shoved Ian back, poking him in his side and laughing as they jostled each other in an effort to get enough tinsel rings on the posts to win one of the prizes. That small part of her brain flinched and screamed that something was wrong. There was no way on earth that had Dessie been in the right frame of mind that she would have reacted that way to the casual nudging, even if it was Ian. It was not her. She didn't do casual contact. "Something pink and glittery! I wonder if they make one with bells on it," Dessie laughed, loudly and cheerfully. A sound that she had never made before as she flung another ring. "Hey! Maybe I should get one too! Or at least get a second set of normal ones. What do you think? Something shiny and pretty?" She tilted her head and tucked the slightly longer blonde hair behind her ear to fiddle with her earlobe. It was bare of any piercing, the singular ones she once had might have even closed by now since she never actually wore earrings. On a typical day she wouldn't even contemplate them since they were a hazard in a fight, but this wasn't a typical day. It wasn't even a atypical day for them... it was a straight up Christmas miracle. Well, not quite but it was still strange as hell.

She was not going to win! She just didn't know that, of course, and he would prove it to her! he just needed to throw the ring right...and that was harder than it should be, though maybe it was because Dessie kept knocking into his side on purpose.
"Pink! Yes!" Though maybe not glittery. That wasn't good to get into a piercing...right? He was pretty sure that was true, even if it would be pretty. "Bells...like a cat collar?" that was to keep track of the kitty - right? So then people would know where he was always...like Dessie She'd be able to find him and bother him all the time. "Yes! You should! We can get you and i can pierce something too! Ohh, perfect idea!" Yes, because somehow Dessie letting someone pierce any part of her, even if it was just her earlobes, was a normal thing. None of this was normal but he just was sort of swept up, and away, in whatever was going on."Something blue! and gold for you!"
Wait till Dessie came back to herself and realized she was pierced and couldn't take them our for six weeks, give or take a bit. Also, sleeping on them was a no-no and other things.

With a final holler Dessie tossed her last tinsel ring and watched it as it bounced around the board only to fall off. "Boo," Her display of dissatisfaction was ruined by her smile. She had only gotten enough rings for a small prize unfortunately, but it was what it was. "Yes! A bell! You need a bell so I'll always know where you are!" She wagged a finger at him and made a face, "You need a keeper and a bell will help." The guy running the booth gave her a pick of some holiday themed stuffed critters that were basically pocket sized. She picked out a snowman, her blue eyes flicking up to the ridiculously sized snowman that was hanging from the top of the booth. For some reason she had really wanted one of those. Sadly it was not to be. "What? No pink for me?" She teased Ian even as she thanked the booth guy and promptly tapped Ian's cheek with the stuffed animal. "See I won a stuffed animal first," Dessie stuck her tongue out at him giggled again. "Come on, come on... we still need to get cotton candy before we got to get you a sparkly, twinkly new piercing."

He did, thankfully, have more money on him. It was more than enough for a piercing and new jewelry for the ones he already had, thankfully. Carnival games were never cheap, their job was to rob you of your money...and maybe your soul. Either way he continued on a few more times before finishing. He had done better, which he was laughing over as he turned to face Dessie. "I did better - even if you won first. Now pick what you want." He didn't want any of the prizes, not like Dessie did, so he was letting her pick.
"And then we can get those ears of yours pierced and you can pick a bar for me." Because he really did need one, drink or not influencing him he needed a new bar, he'd never changed to anything but the one he'd been pierced with. It was time to change...and Dessie would help him!.Fiction1119 We need a follow up to this "Butterrum decisions" or "Butterrum mistakes."

Sleet Tempest Snape Butterrum Mistakes.... all the way man XD Dessie made another face at Ian when the booth guy announced his total but any irritation she felt was lost in the glee of picking another prize. Ian had gotten enough points for a medium size one too but there wasn't really anything she wanted. She really wanted the huge one but, or at least the 'big' prize snowman but neither of them had gotten that many points. After much hemming and hawing the booth guy took pity and made her a deal, her small prize plus Ian's medium for the 'big' prize. A deal she gladly took with a happy little dance. Moments later they were walking away, Dessie a proud owner of a large stuffed snowman. "Yes! I am most definitely getting my ears pierced! Come on, lets go!" Happy beyond all reason, she snagged his arm and began to tug him through the crowd once more while humming the tune to Frosty The Snowman. ... Little did she know that come the next day, she would no longer be such a happy little camper. And she will most definitely not be eating or drinking anything she doesn't make herself for quite a while.
