You get the link in an email. Up and coming new star wants you to watch their new song they just posted on Youtube. It’s a holiday song and is terribly catchy, though after you listen to it, you find yourself getting quite sleepy. The tiredness persists, and you only want to sleep.

The first nap lasts an hour or so, but you wake up hungry with the song still playing in your head. After eating you again sleep, and you don’t wake again until the next day.

When you go back to try and listen to the song again though, there is no email. And Googling it shows no results.

Weird.

Nolan didn’t care much about internet celebrities. Most of the time they were people who were just popular rather than good at anything. If he followed someone, it’s because it was something that he was interested in and could get new ideas from, such as a few vegan cooking channels or someone who regularly made things for various Ren Fests around the country that Nolan could note down and be on the lookout for.

But singers? Gamers? People who just yelled at the screen? Not for him. No thank you. The fact that some of them became millionaires through such methods was a surprise and annoyance to him. So many others that actually had talent that deserved the money much more than these “celebrities”. Or at least put that money elsewhere instead of throwing at a twitch screamer. Like charity.

So, when he got an email that contained a new song that some dumb star wanted him to watch, he had been about to delete it when it started playing by itself and he had been unable to stop it or even turn his sound off. Only when it was completed was he able to delete the email and mute his sound.

Obviously, it was some sort of virus, and he would have to check his computer for any malware that may have been on it now. But since it was late at night, he could wait until the morning… right? He had started to feel sleepy after having to listen to the stupid song, so he had gone to sleep right after it.

Unfortunately, he woke up groggily an hour later, and looked at his clock, showing that it was now only 11PM. And since he hadn’t eaten in a while, his stomach was now grumbling in annoyance at being empty. But Nolan knew that a big meal at night would be terrible for him, he ate a few crackers and had some water and went back to sleep.

Finally, he woke up the next morning because of his alarm clock, but at least he hadn’t gotten up again since then.

He went to go look at his computer again, and checked his email to make sure that the stupid song had been deleted when he saw that it wasn’t in his trash… He rolled his eyes. Perhaps the virus was temporary and had only been meant to have that one song played until completion before deleting itself. Either way, he didn’t want to have to listen to it again and he would make sure that any unknown emails would immediately be put in the trash from now on. He wouldn’t even give them a chance.

After making breakfast for himself, he once again went back to his tablet, this time planning on watching others who had actual talent other than screaming profanities and being somewhat good at a game or pretending to be scared. At least he could learn something from the cooks and creators that he watched rather than mindlessly watching someone else because a bunch of other people did.
