On a cold winter night, when the moon is nearly full and bright in the sky, you hear laughter. At first, you can't place it, but then you feel little pokes and prods, tugs on your hair, your clothes. Sometimes you think you see something out of the corner of your eye--a small, icy body. Sometimes you hear wings flapping in the night. As long as you are out in the cold, you feel eyes on you and you find yourself the target of small mischief from what seems to be icy little fairies, though they move too fast for you to see or grab. They never speak, only laugh. When you go inside, or venture to anywhere with too much light or heat, they seem to disappear and do not bother you again.
Lepus and Etoile were out late together for once, a rare sight considering the spoiled Mauvian tended to prefer to stay indoors, especially on a cold night like this... and so close to the holidays, too! Why go out when she could stay home and watch TV and eat snacks? But it was supposed to be a clear night, and clear nights made for perfect nights for stargazing, plus Lepus had offered to buy Etoile some snacks if she came along. It was bribery at its best, but if there was anything Lepus knew best, it was that food was the way to sway the little cat’s loyalties.
Plus, Lepus had said they were going to meet up with a friend, one of Lepus’ chibi senshi friends that Etoile had helped awaken, and they were all going to go out to get snacks together after they were done patrolling, or at least that was the way Lepus had worded it. Etoile didn’t get to see most of the senshi she helped awaken after the big event usually, with some exceptions; on one hand, Etoile loved making new friends, especially if they brought snacks! On the other, Etoile was a very badly kept secret of Lepus’, so the small Mauvian had grown used to staying indoors all day, out of sight and enjoying the comforts of home. Sometimes, Alise would bring her friends from school over, but that seemed to have come to a halt once she entered high school. Evidently, most of them went to the other school, the one Alise wanted to go to, apparently.
Etoile didn’t understand teenage drama or angst, so she didn’t really get any of it.
The weather was cold, but Etoile was bundled up in Lepus' jacket, which the teen had brought along to wear while powered up, so she wasn't super freezing. Still, Etoile wondered how much longer it would be before the friend showed up and they could get moving. The sooner they took care of any baddies roaming around, the sooner they could get food, so, thus, the sooner Etoile could get to eat, right? She had eaten a light meal before they had left, but the kitten was never truly full, and almost always perpetually hungry. Lepus had said something about how that was how normal cats acted, too, but Etoile was pretty certain that normal cats didn’t eat candy canes and gingerbread cookies like she did, so she didn’t really understand.
As they continued to wait, Etoile could have sworn she heard laughter, but Lepus hadn’t said anything, had she? Then… where was it coming from? Was someone playing a prank on them, or was their friend nearby? The little Mauvian didn’t sense any energy signatures aside from Lepus’ own aura next to her, and only grew more confused as nothing immediately presented itself.
Maybe… maybe she was imagining things. Hunger did that to a starving kitten, probably; it made them hear things that weren’t there. Now if only that friend would hurry and show up...

wasn't sure how to start this, but i hope it's okay for them to be meeting up with Mary rather than them, say, running into each other while dealing with the faeries!
