Quote: On a cold winter night, when the moon is nearly full and bright in the sky, you hear laughter. At first, you can't place it, but then you feel little pokes and prods, tugs on your hair, your clothes. Sometimes you think you see something out of the corner of your eye--a small, icy body. Sometimes you hear wings flapping in the night. As long as you are out in the cold, you feel eyes on you and you find yourself the target of small mischief from what seems to be icy little fairies, though they move too fast for you to see or grab. They never speak, only laugh. When you go inside, or venture to anywhere with too much light or heat, they seem to disappear and do not bother you again. Sylvite was happy. She'd never really outgrown being way too into Christmas, and all the cookies in class and holiday music in the supermarkets on the more mundane side of things was enough to send her into a bouncing flurry of grins. If that wasn't enough, she got to come out under the shine of all the store's Christmas lights as her magical self. The Negaverse wasn't much for celebrations, but there was still something really nice about doing basic tasks in such a festive setting. She was gonna have a lieutenant with her tonight, too, which was exciting on a more serious note. It seemed that after a couple years, the higher ups were finally figuring out that she knew what she was doing, that she was like, important. And there was something about the thought of having an underling, as Still called it, even for one night, that was pretty thrilling. She sat cross legged on the corner where they'd agreed to meet up, knees pressing into the sidewalk as she looked up and realized that snow was beginning to fall. Her eyes went even bigger at that, and she stuck out her tongue, hoping to catch a couple flakes.

Crocoite was not sure why he was being shuffled around and sent one meaningless missions now, of all times. He had his plans before him, his own goals to work toward, and now the Negaverse wanted to remember he was there? His General was not the best at paying him any attention, but that was exactly why he was determined to prove himself better than her in all regards.
He could not miss the aura of a higher rank Nega soldier nearby, so he moved to find his babysitter for the evening. He did not look happy to see her, regarding her with a cold nod of his head.
"Comfortable, then?"
He could not remember the last time he tried to sit cross legged, and he was absolutely sure he'd never tried to catch snowflakes on his tongue. The idea of it made his stomach burble threatening, and he cleared his throat to hide the nausea. People used the holiday as an excuse to act like children, and he had not even used his childhood as an excuse to do so.
He certainly wouldn't begin now.
"If you're thirsty, I'm sure you could find a fountain nearby."

She spent a couple minutes catching snowflakes before the aura popped up and didn't stop until her mystery lieutenant was so close she could hear his footsteps. At that point, she swiveled to face him, grinned, and waved as she got a good look at him. His outfit, she decided, was pretty great. It looked like something out of a fairy tale. Maybe not a snow day type fairy tale, but then in the long run, it was probably better to have something a little more neutral. "I'm comfy, yeah," she replied, getting to her feet in a smooth motion. "Don't worry, I'm not one of those 'at attention or else' types. Especially not in a great snow like this!" She turned her face skyward for a second, back arched, feeling the cold flakes on her cheeks. That was when she heard it. A giggle, and not like the guy's voice at all. She glanced over her shoulder, then shook her head, a few stray flakes flying from her curls. Weird. Probably just a kid or something. "Water fountains don't really have snowcones," she said, the words coming fast. "And even snowcones, like, they're okay for summer but they're really nothing compared to the fresh from the sky stuff." Seemingly remembering her role all at once, she straightened into something more professional and stepped forward. "Crocoite, right?" She held out a hand. "I'm Sylvite. Uh, Captain Sylvite."

"My general stabbed me to teach my how to dodge the first time we trained. I think I can handle 'attention or else'," he said with a sigh, not sure how his General's training tactics really fit in, in the scheme of things. He knew they were a military based operation, but she certainly had her own way of doing things. And her own things to do: he rarely got orders like this, to go out with others and actually do missions.
He was probably handful to deal with, at this point, with how strong willed and independent he'd already become. And he had not even become any important rank yet. Some day, though, that would all change. He would have the power to do whatever he wanted.
For now, he just had to bide his time.
Thinking he heard something laughing, Crocoite turned his head away from the Captain as she introduced herself, making it seem like he really did not care about her at all. While it might have been true any other time, he was actually just distracted by the strange, lilting sound that seemed to be carried off on the wind.
Looking back at her, he frowned thoughtfully and squinted a bit. Was she playing some sort of prank on him, to test him?
"Yes. Crocoite," he said at length, gingerly taking her hand and finding himself relieved that he was not given an electric shock. "What are your orders for the evening, ma'am?"

Sylvite nodded, all nonchalant, at his description of his General. That kind of technique seemed pretty common, which was weird since it didn't seem to work out that well in the long term. You just got people hating you. "Yeah," she said, "One of my Generals was like that too, sometimes. Till he, y'know, disappeared under mysterious circumstances. It was a whole thing." She waved a hand, not wanting to go too far down the General gossip rabbit hole with this guy who seemed pretty focused on just getting things done. A little boring, but she'd take what she could get. "Basically, I wouldn't recommend stabbing your friends, or like, allies, minions, whatever. I recommend stabbing knights." She summoned her weapons at that, two knives with cute candy handles. "Knights are terrible." She was still smiling, but there was something in her voice that said she was very serious. However, a quick aura check revealed that the two of them were alone in the area. It was probably better. She wasn't actually good at stabbing knights. "Seems like they're staying home, though, so, uh, it's the perfect time for you to show me your energy draining techniques." There was another laugh, right by her ear this time. She turned again, and though she maybe saw a shape in the snow. "Ugg, what is that?"

"On that, you and my general agree, then. She seems obsessed with killing them as well. I find senshi to be the more useless of the two. I would gladly be rid of them in all their forms." Crocoite did have one knight that he was targeting, but he would be on a very long road before he got anywhere close to that kind of power. Still, the Royal Knight had gotten on Croc's bad side early on, and he supposed Painite's constaant complaining about him had not helped the matter. Even though he was doing his best to be far more than Painite ever was, and not follow in her shadow. He frowned. "I know how to drain energy, and so do you. Instead of me showing you something we both know how to do, should you not show me something new? Like how you're making all this insufferable giggling, for a start." He was still convinced she was playing a prank on him, but he was not sure how. It really sounded like something was flying around, laughing. And he could swear he saw something fly by the side of his head, ut as he turned to follow it, it had already gone. Fast, or something else. (sorry for typos, tagging from phone!)

Sylvite quirked an eyebrow, getting more and more interested in this general lady. Her eyebrows moved even higher when Crocoite said he didn't like senshi, and she tilted her head just a little. People could have their opinions and stuff, but she didn't get that one. "Mostly I'm not really the one actually taking them out," she said, letting the knives fall to her sides. "It's good someone is, though. I'm Information, so for me it's more like doing the scouting, figuring out who the big threats are, who might be worth bringing over, that kinda stuff, and let me tell you," her eyes went big as she thought of the senshi she'd met, especially the ones like Chrysocolla and Still, her good friends who she only knew since people had worked hard to bring them to the Negaverse. "Order senshi can be rough sometimes, yeah, but they usually have cool magic that'd be really nice for us if we could get them. Knights, on the other hand, are both super boring and total jerks." She figured that was pretty close to an impassioned speech, so she went to finish it off with a strong nod and her hands on her hips like a real superior officer. However, at that moment, something yanked one of her curls. Hard. She yelped. "It's not me," she said as she spun around again, a blade held at the ready in front of her face this time. There was something just fluttering away, she thought, something little and with wings and really cute. She turned back to Crocoite, wide eyed and smiling, but then turning back to the air, any traces of the something was gone. Then, almost ignoring him, she went through her mental checklist. "I thought it was kids. It's not kids, though. Not youma, either, no aura." She grinned bigger and looked back at him. "Yeah, this is something new! That's awesome! Dangerous, probably, but really, really cool!"

"Information, hm? That's an interesting occupation. I do find a little violence is often required to get them talking and dealing. But civilians are easier than senshi and knights, to scare and torture into saying anything for their lives."
He chuckled, thinking about the last civilian he bargained with, who was willing to give him the starseed of his female companion to keep himself from being killed. Crocoite had taken the deal, and let the man live with his choices.
That was not to say he would not come hunt the man down later, but for now he was safe.
He saw her attention shift and frowned, squinting and spotting the little thing flying away from her for just a moment. He crossed his arms over his chest and grunting in irritation. A little fairy came up to the side of his head and giggled as it poofed the hair above his ear happily for a moment before flitting off behind his head. It circled around to the other side and did the same thing.
Crocoite did not move, staring at the Captain for help and with an extreme look of boiling anger on his face.
"I hate it. Get it away from me," he said, through gritted teeth.

Sylvite had been trying to make the best of the night. She really had. Even with Crocoite being kind of a stick in the mud and the surrounding area being pretty empty and boring except for the fairies, or whatever they were, which were cute but making it impossible to focus. She did her best to keep her smile up and be a good leader, but even Sylvite had a breaking point, and it was torture. She went stock still, the bubbliness draining out of her all at once, even as she felt the weight of something landing on her head and starting to tug at her bow with a giggle. "Maybe if you're stupid," she said, "And you can't get anyone to trust you." She ran a thumb absentmindedly over her wrist, where she still had rope scars under her gloves. "Torture is desperate, messy, and any information you get for it has a fifty-fifty shot of being super inaccurate. It's also really mean and it makes people hate you. It's the kind of thing Order does." She kinda wanted to just teleport away and leave him to the fairies, except that wouldn't exactly help her point, and also he was supposed to be under her protection or whatever. "Also, civilians don't know anything important. Like, yeah, senshi will tell you stuff for their starseeds sometimes, but we also need them to like us so we can get political support." Civilians were really important. You couldn't just go around torturing them. With a huff, she reached out her hand to the lieutenant, letting the knives vanish. "Okay, that can be your lesson for tonight since we obviously can't get anything done with these around. Where do I drop you off?" There was a giggle in her other ear, and Sylvite flinched. Even something as cool as fairies just felt annoying right now.

Crocoite flinched at her words, thinking perhaps she was unhappy with his words and thought him a stupid newbie. He hated the idea of it, always wanting to be at the top of his superiors lists and opinions, not at the bottom. He supposed his bad mood because of the season had tainted his approach.
He cleared his throat, swatting the annoying little fairy thing away as best as he could.
"Forgive me, I must have said something to upset you. That was not my intention. I dislike knights as much as any other member of the White Moon, and would gladly follow you if you were interested in seeking one out tonight"
He could be polite when it was required, and he knew he had already messed up so far.
"I don't feel like it was much of a lesson, but if that is your wish, I can see myself home. I've some quota left to fill, anyway." Maybe he could catch one of these little things, but he doubted it. If they were even real at all. He still was not throwing out the idea that this was all some sort of senshi magic trick.

He was trying, he really was. However, the suggestion of going after a knight or something just made Sylvite shake her head with a frown. Like, just because she was all flashy about her knives didn't mean she wanted to fight. She hated fighting. That was how you got hurt. Like, she'd fight if she had to, for the good of the planet and all. She tried to be a good soldier, but going off and getting punched by some snotty knight was not her idea of stress relief. She gave one proper huff, then sucked in a breath. "No, it's okay," she said. She felt like she wasn't doing very good at this leadership thing, and she had to try, even if they'd stuck her with some psycho. "I mean, not the being stupid part, but we don't have to go looking for fights when it's clear like this." The fairies seemed to be really into her hair, and she shook her head again, not as harshly this time. "Now you wanna drain, though? I can help. Show you tricks. That's what I'm, um, good at." She couldn't completely keep the annoyance out of her voice, but she was now putting some effort into it. "But I gotta make a report on these guys for sure." She turned again, trying to get a proper look at the fairies, but they were fast. Lithiasaur Sorry she's being a brat.

"Go do your report then, ma'am," he said politely, nodding his head and offering her a small salute. It was not sarcastic, but rather an effort being made on his part to make up for his petulance before. Stupid holiday season made him forget himself for a moment, perhaps.
Or he was just getting too big for his incredibly stylish boots.
He tried to catch one of the little fairies as it played with the hair by his ear again, snapping his hand up and covering his ear with it. He felt cold against his ear, but it faded away like a melting snowflake before he pulled his hand completely back to get a look at the result. If he had gotten one of the little things, it was gone now.
Dead, teleported, or something else?
"I might just leave it to you, if that is acceptable. I'm not sure how much more of this giggling and these little games I can take... it's incredibly frustrating not being able to catch them or smash the life out of them for being annoying. They don't seem to have any kind of aura, unless I am not strong enough to feel it."
Were they just really strange youma, or senshi magic? Perhaps something to do with the knights she hated so much: they had limited magic as well, as far as he knew.

Sylvite didn't waste any time pulling her tablet pen out and starting to type out a couple notes. Fairies? Snow fairies? Really cute, no auras, kinda hard to actually see though. She looked up to see, again, if she could get a better look at one of the things, but of course now that she was trying to find them they were nowhere to be seen. She did see Crocoite smack himself in the head to try to kill it, which seemed pretty extreme, but then he seemed super into that kind of stuff. By the look on his face, it hadn't worked, and that left Sylvite the one giggling. "Yep, no auras," she said. "I mean, if they were youma or something and this close we would've felt it by now." And if they were some kind of senshi magic, there would have to be a senshi around, right? She'd have to double check with her senshi friends, but she was pretty sure. It was gonna take some thinking, and maybe some looking into things, and she could see that her lieutenant-of-the-day was having about as much of all these fairies as he could take. With how annoyed he looked and how much he liked talking about killing people, she was worried that she might have a mess on her hands if she made him stick around. "That's fair," she said. "You're dismissed." Hopefully he'd listen to her about the torture thing, but if not, she had her own problems. She gave a final wave and then teleported off, not really feeling like awkwardly sticking around.
