Quote: New Year's Eve has gone awry for you when pretty snowflakes turn into an ugly snowstorm in a matter of minutes. Your walk through the snow (to wherever it is that you were headed to celebrate the new year at) is becoming less magical by the minute and judging by the size of the hail pieces, you need to get out of it fast before you find yourself on the receiving end of some vicious bruises. Unfortunately, the wind and the snow have made it impossible to navigate through and after a series of twists, turns and attempts to shield yourself from the storm, you find yourself on the doorstep of a clearly neglected cabin-type house. You're not sure where it came from but you don't have much choice but to make your way inside to avoid the fierce weather. Inside, there's enough wood to make a fire in the fireplace, a small cot with a few dusty quilts, some half-burned candles and several canned goods (all that seem decently aged). You might even be able to find some alcohol hidden away, if you're lucky. Judging by the way the wind is howling and the snow is piling up, though, it looks like you're going to be bringing in the new year stuck in this unfortunate place - better make due with what you've got!

Winter was Beringia's element. It was his calling. Winter was the perfect time for the knight to be out and patrolling. Unlike the crime of the city, where Sergei spent most of his summer in his civilian form, Winter had less criminal activity during the night. It was too cold, too wet for people to attempt crime.
But that didn't stop negaverse because they were all, in a sort of way, immune to the cold. Sure it was brisk, depending on how cold it was, and a bit uncomfortable he was sure for some of the less dressed but they didn't suffer like the regular humans did.
It was the perfect time for negaverse to do what they wanted to do. Which is why Beringia was out patrolling. Had to enact that JUSTICE.

At this point, Still was barely scraping by on her quota collection. The bare minimum. She had moved to the outskirts of the city, collecting bits of energy here and there from people who were moving inwards to go celebrate the New Year...that's when she felt it. An Order signature, right at her level. Usually she'd be curious to see, even to confront it, but now she didn't want any trouble. The corrupt dropped from the rooftop she'd been on into an alleyway, and sure the coast was clear, released her glamour. Knot stepped out into the empty, snow laden street, glancing up----and that's when she was smacked on the forehead by some hail. The woman sucked in a breath at the sharp pain. " Ow." Wait...was the snow picking up, too? And was the hail getting worse? Well...she couldn't power back up right at this moment. Just in case that signature was right on top of her...maybe she needed to find some cover for now. She went to go do just that, making her way down the street, keeping a cautious eye on the sky---and hopefully not an eyeful of hail.

The feeling of the dark aura on his radar made Beringia change directions and immediately head towards it. He was in the mood for a fight, and to dispense some justice towards whoever it was.
He was almost on top of the aura when it winked out and he stopped, in the middle of an abandoned train yard. Old broken train cars spread out where he was and he scrunched his nose. The aura probably disappeared because they didn't want to face him, which meant they got away with whatever score they had.
He didn't have time to really think about it, as the weather turned and he was pelted with hail. Small at first, but growing in size. There was no point in attempting to stay here, so he started to move, attempting to head back to the city.
Except it was hailing far too strongly now and he had no where to go to escape the painful pelting until he looked down. There was a house there, dingy and he was pretty sure abandoned. He didn't want to broadcast his presence, so as soon as he landed, he powered down and shifted as Sergei.

Knot couldn't keep her eyes up for too long. The hail started to come down harder, and soon enough her head was down as she just ran. The road gave way to an abandoned train yard, and she almost thought about seeing if there was a train car she could take shelter in until she caught sight of something better. A cabin. She ducked her head down again and made a beeline for it. The woman stepped up onto the old and creaky wooden porch, thankful for the small cover it had that at least kept the hail off of her head. She looked up though, and lightly started, as on the other side of the porch, across from her, she could make out the silhouette of a figure. The homeowner, perhaps? Of this...dump. But still possible. "Pardon me---" She called out, but even as she did, she reached into her coat pocket for the blade she carried on her person. Just in case. "Sorry for the trespassing if this is your place---I just needed some cover from that hail. I'll be on my way soon, I can assure you."

Unlike his dark counterpart of the evening, Sergei had chosen to enter through a window instead of the front door. The house was clearly run down and abandoned. He'd be lucky if he didn't freeze overnight.
he was half leg in when he heard the voice, snorting as someone as unfortunate as him was stuck in here before shaking free and landing on two feet from the window.
"If taking shelter, then also taking shelter." Sergei stepped out of a side room into the connecting living room and almost took a step back in when he saw who it was. Knot was out here? She must've been making deliveries on this cold evening. He almost went to her when he realized he was in his skivs.
He nodded his head instead. "Do not be alarmed, officer of lav." He pulled out his badge. "Vill not harm you."

Knot felt cold, and it had nothing to do with this suddenly atrocious weather. Though the light was dim, especially so inside the cabin once she got in, there was no mistaking that frame, that profile, and that voice. Holy s**t. She was seriously thinking about going back out into that raging storm and letting it take her. If hypothermia didn't get to her first, then it'd be multiple contusions to the head from the hail, and that would be alright. How, in all places at all times, would she end up crossing paths with Sergei here? The woman just stared at him for a long moment, not bothering to look at his badge when he pulled it out. Seeing him again, after their fight, just made the ache tear open again. Too late for the not harm you part. "I'm more alarmed that a police officer is out here on New Year's Eve instead of downtown maintaining the peace."The woman replied, a bit coolly. She didn't want to be here, but now she didn't really have a choice. Unless she could leave him and power up...there was no where else for her to go until the storm passed... But oh, how she hated, that while seeing him hurt, it made her elated, too. Awful. Knot fished her phone out of her coat pocket, and turned on the flashlight feature. Well, if the solution was to hole up here for a bit, then it was time for some Dallas Law. That meant scoping out the area and checking the perimeter...and having something to do, was a blessing right now. Shining the light around, Knot spotted a fire place, and made a bee line for it. She knelt at the hearth, found some fire wood, and oh, this was lucky, some kindling as well. This was a good start. She tossed some logs into the fire place, got some kindling ready, and then fished a lighter (also courtesy of Dallas preparation) out. It took a few tries to get it going, but soon enough the kindling caught flame, and the fire extended to the logs.

The reply was a little bit stunning, since Knot was so usually friendly to Beringia but perhaps because of her activities, it made her distant. He had to tread here carefully after all.
They were meeting the first time like this. Her dash to the fire made him blink, as he was still trying to formulate a reply as to why he was out here before settling on...
"Car broke down. Vas valking on foot back to city when hail came down. Technically not on duty, just vanted to get home to dog and movies." he was going to try to make it light hearted, and since she had a fire going, he searched the cabin for something else. The hail and snow grew heavier and heavier and he sighed.
Wind whipped at the window he had broken to get in, bringing a chill in. Since there was a small cot, he removed the quilts, shaking them out and moving the piece of furniture to cover the window. It was heavy enough to keep the wind from knocking it over, and large enough to keep most of the cold away.
"There is some blankets here." After he done that, he offered her the cleanliest of the two.

Knot didn't reply to his words. Instead she focused on the fire, as a means to focus her own thoughts. As the man moved around behind her though, she kept him within her sight, even if it was within her peripheral. The hurt from their last meeting came rushing to the surface, stoked by his proximity and honest lack of hostility towards her. It wasn't just that either though, that made the recollection even more acidic to her. It was that, combined with everything else that had been going on, that made it easy to feel this hurt. It was bitter thoughts of wondering if he even missed her at all. If he even cared that so much time had passed between them with no communication. That maybe he was happy that they weren't speaking or seeing each other. It was that simplicity he desired. The woman stoked the fire with a poker she found nearby, watching the growing flames dance in the fireplace. How lonely it was, to be beside someone you cared about, but have no idea what to say. She could be venomous to him. It'd be all too easy to be, but he wouldn't know why. Besides, it wouldn't fix anything...and as reluctant at first as she had been to admit it, spending time with Beringia, since their fight, was making her realize the points the man had been making. The state of being temporary. Enemies. How nothing would, or could, be permanent as long as they were what they were. She was seeing it...and though she could see it, and was starting to grasp it, it still didn't take the sting out of a lot of other things he had said to her but...there was nothing to be done for it right now. So she could spend this next stretch of time being miserable and silent with him, or she could...for a small stretch of time, interact with him without the hostility he gave her as Still. It could be a taste of... What things could be like. Knot mulled over that thought for a moment, but looked up when he came over to her, and offered her a blanket. She looked at the blanket, and then up at him, and there was a weight in her gaze that let on to more than just their current situation as she regarded him. She then looked beyond him to see what he did with the cot, and was silent for a moment longer before she spoke up. Her tone wasn't warm, not like it was with Beringia, but the chilliness she had within it earlier melted. "If that's all there is, fold one of those up to sit on." She replied. "We can share the other one. Body warmth and all that. I don't know how long this storm will last, and how long this fire will...so it's best to be sparing." Shelving the hurt, shelving the anger...she hoped that setting that aside was a sign of growth and being a better person. She hoped. "...What kind of movies were you going to watch?"

Apparently it was gonna be ice cold in the cabin, as it was outside. Sergei wasn't sure how to make the woman relax. He wasn't Beringia right now, and she seemed to have enjoyed the knight side of him just find. Didn't she say russians were her type?
He laid the blanket as she asked, shrugging out of his police jacket and offering it to her. It wasn't like he wasn't use to this kind of cold, seeing as he was born and raised in northern Russia.
He then spread the other quilt out over them and sat next to her, shoulders touching.
"Think there vas food in cans too." he nodded over to a small area where there was a pantry like. He hadn't taken too much time to look but seeing as they had the fire going already.
"Can use other things to keep fire lit, no?" If they wanted to at least survive the night, the could probably pull up old boards or whatever that wasn't keeping the wind out.
"I am Sergei." He turned towards her, "I vould say good meeting, but vell...no one vants to be stuck in a cabin eh?" He blinked at her question and then looked away, "Classic noirs. I had mind to set something random on, since long night. Maybe Frankenstein....or even Dracula."

Now the man was offering her his jacket, and the act of it reminded her of Beringia, who offered his own knight coat to her. She took it, since he had already just gone ahead and took it off. When he sat next to her though, she threw the coat over both of their laps. It would be shared. "Good to know if we get desperate." She murmured, stoking the fire a bit more before she put the poker down for now. Knot nodded her head. "Yes." She replied, in regards to keeping the fire lit. She was thinking along the same lines as him. Anything in here wooden that wasn't keeping the wind out would be the first to go. "I'm Knot." She said in turn to his introduction, turning her head towards him as he spoke. "Oh, I'd say it's a matter of perspective, hm? It'll make for a memory, at the least. That one year you spent New Year's in an abandoned cabin, fighting to keep warm with a stranger." Her head tilted at the reply, and as much as she still hated this situation, there was a part of her that was excited to hear more about the man...and of course, she couldn't help but note how easily he told her interesting things right now. She couldn't help it. A corner of her lips pulled up at his choices. "The 1931 Dracula, huh?" She asked, since that one was in black and white. She spent a lot of time at the public library, and had watched some stuff he had listed. The woman made a soft amused sound. "Didn't think you'd like a bit of romance mixed into your films." It was a small tease, but it was there. "Just ringing in the New Year with you and your dog? Or...that was the plan, until this, anyways." She mused...and that sounded like something Beringia would do.

"Food is never bad." He had seen, he was sure, some liquor of over there too. Wasn't sure if better to drink it or leave it as fuel for the fire later. Since she seemed to be of the sharing kind, which he found funny after initial chilliness, he scooted closer to her.
It was hard to pretend they were strangers when, if he chose, he could don the uniform of Polaris for her. But he couldn't trust anyone with his secret beyond his family...people he knew were of order's side.
"Yes." He snorted at her response, "A police officer cannot have romance?" He rose his brow, though he didn't consider Dracula particularly romantic. It was about a man obsessed with a woman and trying to turn her.
He liked the mystery of it though, and the suspense. He blinked at her question though. "Yes, Yes. My dog is picky, she alvays home alone so it is important I spend some time with her." He shuffled in.
"Vhat brought you all the vay out here?"

She was very aware of him next to her, so when he scooted closer, a brow quirked. She didn't move away though, and stayed where she was, as the heat radiating off of his body grew the closer he got. It was just eerie. When she spent time with Beringia, she often thought of Sergei. Now with Sergei, she was thinking of Beringia. They were both so familiar--- It was her turn to snort, softly. "Oh, a police officer can, Ma---" Knot paused, stilling briefly. She'd been about to call him Malysh, something she did as Still. " But---" She continued, picking up after her short pause, "You don't strike me as the type to care about such a thing." Wow. What a lucky dog. She was kind of envious to that dedication. Both of Knot's brows lifted now as she stared at him, as he got even closer. "...You're as subtle as a brick, Sergei." She told the man, and when he turned a question on her, she replied. "Barely scraping by on a job." The woman answered, honestly. "The kind of work you wouldn't be a fan of, given your position as one of Destiny City's finest." She was talking about energy draining, but it fit well for her illegal civilian jobs as well.

He didn't know what to expect her to say, but it was on the tip of her tongue. As Beringia, perhaps she meant to call him something else. He wasn't sure, and he needed to remember he was Sergei, not Beringia.
He wasn't her knightly lover here, he guessed. They were just a police officer and a deliverer of illegal goods.
"I don't." He shrugged, "Romance is hard." He didn't feel like delving into much of it. He was stuck between three different women. At least with Cass, it was actually casual. With Knot, it felt like....new. With Still it was.....completely complicated. His head just hurt thinking about it, so he stopped.
"Ah, Illegal Vork eh?" He rubbed his jaw before shrugging, "Vhat can do? Car is broke down and veather has us stuck here, hardly reason to drag off to station, no?"
He stared into the fire.
"Vhy do far out of town though? Don't usually stay closer?" He asked as if he was brr, "I would....assume...."

"Nothing that's actually worth it is easy." Knot replied softly. Of course romance was too hard. Of course that was his answer and anything too hard to him wasn't worth it. At his reply to what she was doing though, she smirked a bit. "You couldn't do anything even if your car wasn't broke down and we were snowed in." The woman replied. "My word isn't sufficient evidence for you to be able to do something about it." She glanced at him out of the corner of her eyes, curious about the way the question was worded. "Usually?" She asked. "Do you have some tabs on me I'm not aware of, hm, Officer?" Knot stared at him. "Work takes me all over the city." Also, this entire situation was just whacked. She felt like she should be upset that the man was getting...rather friendly with her---from his standpoint, a complete stranger. But did she have a right to be upset when she was Still? It was an incredibly weird catch 22, and the more she thought about it, the more upsetting it was. It wouldn't be like this if--- If they weren't on opposing sides. That was the only drastic and life altering hurdle. And how she did wish she could just come out and say it. Not just to Sergei, but to Beringia as well. Without realizing it, Knot sighed as she stared into the fire as well, eyes lidding. The matter of being truthful was starting to weigh her down more and more.
