They grow in small patches and permeate a pleasant, sweet fragrance. If the flowers are not kept in freezing temperatures, they melt, but fur the duration of their lifespan they are beautiful, fragile things. In such a busy metropolis, isn't it nice to take a moment to take a moment and appreciate nature? Even if there does seem to be something a little magical about this?

Nevada didn't mind snow, as it was the perfect excuse for slippers, large blankets, heating pads and snack foods. It meant movies and games or even time to read one of the many books she had in her room.
But after the third day, the girl got stir crazy and she didn't like staying in as much. She wanted to move, even if it meant trekking in snow up to her ankles. Who else could she ask to join her in the venture then her best friend Stormy? (aptly named for the stormy snow that had been out before, now wasn't it?)
She had texted her friend who had been on the more quiet side to meet her in one of the local parks before bundling up and making her way towards said meeting spot. She could see there wasn't as many footprints out tonight and that seemed good to her!

She had debated saying no. After everything that had happened, Stormy didn't feel that she deserved anything fun. Not until she rectified her...mistakes? Was that the word? No...How could you quantify exactly where she went wrong, other than an inability to escape a power greater than her own? Was a deer in the wrong for being caught by a hunter, or was it just the mechanics of life at work? A simple matter of wrong place, wrong time.
But she agreed anyway, because guilt was a fierce and terrible thing in her chest, and she couldn't bare to sit in her room alone with it anymore.
The cold had bitten into her as a prisoner, but as a civilian it was a yearly wonder that she loved. Perhaps a walk about town with Nevada would help a little bit. It meant neglecting her...duties? As a dark mirror senshi, but she had a lot of free time now, whether she liked it or not.
Hands tucked into pockets and slightly hunched into her coat, Stormy approached the meeting place and was relieved she wouldn't have to wait long, or at all. Lingering anywhere alone ramped up her anxiety to new levels these days. "Hey," she called, trying to put up a smile, trying not to feel awkward. Physically she looked like she hadn't been sleeping well, but that wasn't unusual. She still had her hair, thank God, capped with a red panda styled hat to keep her ears warm. "Sorry I ghosted, school got busy..."

Nevada wouldn't have let her best friend ignore her for much longer, that was sure. She knew where Stormy lived and she would slide her way back in. She didn't know though, what Stormy had faced and it would've broken her heart if she did.
Instead she waved as she saw the girl, bounding over with a little pep in her step and wrapping arms around the smaller girl, her head resting on the pink haired one.
"Hello my precious." She cooed, ignoring the dark circles. Her friend looked worst for wear, but perhaps it was cause of school? It was confirmed right after and she waved her hand. "You are an aspiring intelligent woman of the world, my friend. But I think it's time for some fun, don't you think?" She took Stormy's hand in her own, squeezing it and walking down the path with the woman.
"Wanna talk about it? Sometimes getting school complaints out helps!"

Even in the face of despair, Nevada could make her smile. It was a precious gift, and she leaned into her best friend as they embraced, clutching at her like a lifeline. Maybe the cold had numbed Stormy enough that she didn't have to fear spontaneously crying for once. Or maybe it would spring back on her like one more predator. Either way, she didn't refute or accept Nevada's comment about being "an aspiring, intelligent woman."
"Fun sounds nice," Stormy agreed, holding Nevada's hand tightly. "I think I'd rather just forget about school for a bit, honestly." It wasn't a lie. "How've you been? Anything holiday related for the circus going on?"

"Done." Nevada said simply to her request, whatever Stormy wanted, she would do her best to give. "Actually!" She grinned at her best friend.
"We are doing our own version of the Nutcracker, and ya girl right here..." She jabbed a thumb at herself, "Is playing the role of a sugarplum fairy for her aerial silk routines. My costume has wings....."
She made the motions behind her back with her free hand.
"So it looks like I'm flying on the silks! Have you thought about coming to practice with me and Pen on stage? I promise we'd take really good care of you!" She giggled.
"We could fly."

”Sugarplum, huh? You would be,” Stormy said fondly, leaning against her friend for a moment. A pretty, sprightly girl like Nevada? She was all but born for it. And if it was a circus-style ballet set to their own mix of the Russian orchestral themes...It was going to be amazing, she knew it.
Stormy pat her arm apologetically. “I don’t think I’m ready to fly just yet, but I’d love to see you two in action. Who’s Penrose going to be?” she asked. Before Nevada could answer, however, Stormy turned her head, following a subtle but sweet scent the wind brought. It was flowery, but not like any she had smelled before. Someone’s perfume? But she didn’t see anyone...

"I know, it's so fitting." She sparkled at her best friend, as she thought of her attire. Being the sugar plum fairy did have its advantages, as she was glittery, purple, had wings and was a fairy.
But it was a pain to move silks with the stupid wings on.
"Probably the prince." She giggled, "I don't think he'd settle for anything less. He's a very princely character...." But she was also he'd fit the rat king too, Penrose had a streak to him too.
Her head tilted too as she caught something on the wind, and it was sweet and soft.
"Oh that's nice." She cupped her cheek, turning them towards the scent on the air. "I wonder if there is a new food truck or something." Though, why would it smell more like flower blossoms?

"Is he?" Stormy teased gently. "He seemed more devil-may-care."
They followed the strange but sweet smell around another corner to a magical sight: what looked like frosted flowers-- no, flowers made in the shape of snowflakes were somehow blooming in their own private grove. She should have been more suspicious of something so abnormal, but Stormy was captivated by their beauty and cooed as they neared.
"It's a Christmas miracle," she said, eyes sparkling. But she was afraid to touch them and clung to Nevada still. Were these natural? A work of art? No-one else was around...

Nevada actually laughed loudly.
"you might've hit the nail on the head there, Stormy." Where Penrose had sass, Stormy was more meeker. But that didn't mean she didn't catch things, and she threw out comments like that, they just got to Nevada.
She liked that Stormy opened herself up more to her now. She watched her friends reaction first to whatever the place where smell was emitting and then turned her head to look as well.
The sight was truly one to behold, with snow and flowers. Something told her it was wrong, but it also felt so right.
"It is." She reached over to Stormy, touching fingers to her cheek. Then she was moving to the edge of the blooms, crouching down to smell, taking a deep breath.
"Do you think we can take them home?" Her hand paused as she reached out to snip one at the stem. Did she want to ruin this field for a mere enjoyment of a single flower in her home?

"I don't know..." Again, no-one else was there. And they seemed real enough, if supernatural.
Stormy was indecisive--she usually was--and declined choosing for the moment; if Nevada chose for them, that would be easier. Instead she finally let Nevada go to crouch by the one her friend had snipped, gently brushing a fingertip against one of another's petals. It felt like it was made of pure ice rather than just frosted over.
"Almost like Elsa made these," she said with a little smile.
