Quote:
On a cold winter night, when the moon is nearly full and bright in the sky, you hear laughter. At first, you can't place it, but then you feel little pokes and prods, tugs on your hair, your clothes. Sometimes you think you see something out of the corner of your eye--a small, icy body. Sometimes you hear wings flapping in the night. As long as you are out in the cold, you feel eyes on you and you find yourself the target of small mischief from what seems to be icy little fairies, though they move too fast for you to see or grab. They never speak, only laugh. When you go inside, or venture to anywhere with too much light or heat, they seem to disappear and do not bother you again.

Once again, she found herself in a graveyard.

Striped leggings swished back and forth with one another as dark boots made soft little scuffing sounds as the rubber soles scraped together. She hadn't come dressed up like a ninja - nor had she dressed up very pretty and matching like Marnie tended to do. The girl practically rolled out of bed looking like a goth model while it took Bea a good twenty minutes just to tame her hair into a braid or two. An oversized sweater and leggings were tossed on without second thought, followed by the old boots she should toss out but made for perfect graveyard stoppin' shoes so she kept them anyways.

This time, at least, it was a planned adventure and not one that was brought upon by a best friend calling her up at godawful hours of the morning with the intentions of digging up dirt from dead relatives' graves for hocus pocus spells and whatnot. Sprinklers were checked beforehand, the coast was clear of anything that could remotely get them soaked or scared out of the cemetery - by mortal means, at least.

No, this time she'd come of her own volition and managed to convince Marnie to as well. Holiday time was a time for family and friendship, which, to Beatrice Kellye, meant that any restless spirits just had to be extra restless since everyone had forgotten about them and it was the WORST time of year to be forgotten about. How many people had died without making amends with their loved ones first? How many children had perished before their parents, their lonely little spirits crying out for their mothers and fathers? Or maybe the opposite - maybe a young mother had left children behind and her unfinished business was trying to make sure that their little ones grew up safely and happily??? OR or or or, what if someone had been secretly murdered for their wealth? So they were super angry at their children or meddling spouse who did it to get the money and now their spirit was restless, seeking eternal revenge against their own blood for betraying them?

The possibilities, frankly, were quite endless and Bea was eager to find out the stories behind the restless spirits in this particular graveyard.

She brought her Ouija board but hadn't bothered to pull it out, hoping she could use her voice and simply call to the beyond in hopes of stirring up a little bit of activity among the deceased and slumbering. It wasn't a cemetery that they normally trekked around so maybe they'd have better luck in this new location? Doing this sort of method seemed to work for a lot of ghost hunter shows on the travel channel and if they could do it by egging the spooks on, why couldn't a witch and her bestie procure the same sort of results by doing something similar?

"You think anyone's out there, listening?" she asked idly, glancing over at her fashionable companion. "Y'know, spook wise?"

For once it had been Bea's idea to make a trip out to their favorite graveyard in search of lonely spirits that they could make less lonely or like, less restless at least. Marnie wanted to be as successful at helping ghosts move on like that Melinda girl from the one show. Shoot, what was it called...

Oh yeah! Ghost Whisperer!

Marnie thought that it would be really, really cool to be that clairvoyant. She found herself to be pretty spiritually-aware and like she practiced magic and stuff (different magic, real magic, not that weird senshi stuff) but to be able to communicate with ghosts enough to solve their afterlife woes?

Neat as heck. Well, maybe. Solving other people's (and ghost's) problems sounded like effort. Ugh.

Still, she'd pulled out an over-sized holiday sweater that matched her hair, snowflake tights, warm knee-highs and scarves and gloves and even a beanie to complete her look.

"I mean probably, just because we don't actively like, see the guys, doesn't mean they're not there."

The old tape recorder she'd nabbed from a garage sale was pulled out of her backpack and turned over in her hand. She only had the one tape, so kept choosing to record over it again and again -- at least until she found real evidence of ghosts trying to talk to them. Something they'd scan afterwards while they ate popcorn and hung out at Mar's apartment.

"Truth," she mumbled in return, fidgeting with the old, worn out buttons. The Play button sometimes jammed but it wasn't the worst thing in the world - it still recorded and that was the point, right?

As she tugged the button free from it's jam, a little bright light caught the corner of her eye but when she glanced over to look at it, she felt a sharp tug on one of her pigtails.

"Hey -- not cool. If you want my attention, Marnie, all you gotta do is ask."

Marnie looked unimpressed with the tape recorder, but it was an argument they'd had too many times to count so she refrained from saying something for once in her life. Her filter wasn't so good, but that's what she liked Bea, because she never judged her (much) for the things she blurted out.

When her best friend snapped at her, Marnie was standing a good six feet away, turning her head with an offended, arched brow and pursed painted lips. "What the heck are you talking about Baebea?"

There was no way she could have done anything to get her attention. "I didn't do anything." She started to feel huffy especially when she crossed in front of the white haired girl and felt something jab sharply into her side.

"What the heck Bea? What's wrong with you, that wasn't necessary!"

The way Marnie swerved back around after passing her had Bea almost jumping, it was so fast and startling. Marnie looked officially P-Oed about whatever it was she thought Beatrice had done, even more so after Bea accused her of yanking her pigtail.

"I didn't do anything!" She sputtered, just in time for another yank to find its way to her other pigtail. Dark eyes widened almost comically large as Bea stared straight ahead at her best (and pissed) friend. There was absolutely no way that Marnie could be in two places at once and since Bea was looking right at her when she got her hair pulled, that meant....

It felt like a scene from a horror movie, Bea's head slowly, slowly turning around to look at the offending party with dread filling her at what she might find. There was nothing standing behind her, no explanation for what could have been pulling her hair or doing whatever Marnie was accusing her of doing.

"M-Mar... " she mumbled, trying to keep her voice from shaking. "I... I dunno if we should stick around this place for much longer..."

Marnie was being dramatic, clutching at her side like Beatrice had stabbed her with a knife and the squinting of suspicious eyes, like she'd been betrayed. And she had, if her bestie was accusing her of things she hadn't done.

But then Bea's pigtail was being tugged and it certainly wasn't Marnie's doing, not when she stood several feet away with both of her hands pressed against her side. A strange laughter echoed around them and the goth girl got a delightful shiver down her spin when her eyes widened.

"Bee! We found something!!" Unlike Bea, Marnie seemed excited about this. Her head turned when she thought she saw something zip between headstones and she stumbled forward, only to find something tugging on the hem of her outfit.

Still, the pastel haired girl put her hands on the cold stone and tried to peer around it, trying to catch sight of whatever the heck was messing with them. Unfortunately, whatever it was took advantage of this and shoved her hard enough she toppled head over heels over the marker and landed on her butt with an oof.

Okay, so maybe it wasn't as fun as she thought it might be.

"Alright, alright. Let's--- let's bounce Bee's knees." She returned to her friend's side and grabbed her hand, fully prepared to tug on her when they got the heck outta the graveyard.
