Fresh snow has fallen over Destiny City for the third time this week; most people seem to have stayed inside today due to a particularly heavy flurry, but you find yourself outside tonight for some reason. The weather has faded, revealing a sparkling night sky. Much of the ground is covered in a crisp layer of snow--but more than that, beautiful flowers in the shape of snowflakes have sprouted in the ground. They grow in small patches and permeate a pleasant, sweet fragrance. If the flowers are not kept in freezing temperatures, they melt, but fur the duration of their lifespan they are beautiful, fragile things. In such a busy metropolis, isn't it nice to take a moment to take a moment and appreciate nature? Even if there does seem to be something a little magical about this?

Making her way home from class, Queenie Powers clutched tightly on to her books as she struggled her way through the snowy path towards the neighborhood that let in to her own.

The trek from DCU to home was further than she cared to walk but there seemed to be something wrong with the bus stop and she hadn't bothered to drive, assuming the buses would be working as they normally did. Driving in the snow was never Queenie's favorite thing to do but walking in it, she determined, was far, far worse.

Even worse so when one tripped and dropped their books in it, which she just so happened to find herself doing with an unladylike squawk.

Scrambling to collect the fallen textbooks, she let out an unhappy sigh as they were scooped up, not too far from some peculiar looking flowers sprouting alongside of the sidewalk. The blossoms looked like snowflakes and they smelled awfully heavenly but with how the cold chill nipped at her nose and legs, Queenie found herself ignoring the otherwise fascinating looking blooms in favor of trying to dust her books free of snow and return on her hike towards her house, blouse now damp from the books' wetness.

This was certainly not the way to end the semester!

She should have sucked it up and driven - darn her concern for sliding on ice, this was certainly not worth dealing with in lieu of the warmth and dryness of the inside of her small little car.

The only reason Gansey was up near DCU was because there'd been a party at one of the frat houses and he'd been lured by one of the few boys he actually cared about from his private university to attend with him. It was as he predicted, full of cheap store-bought beer and people who lacked the ability to conduct themselves with any manner of grace when drunk.

Gansey could have (easily) drank them under the table, because no one quite held their liquor like Gansey Gallagher, if only he'd been so inclined.

(And he hadn't been inclined.)

Which meant as his friend schmoozed and boozed, flirting with whatever member of sex they prefered, Gansey had slipped out and gone for a drive around the campus to clear his head.

Into his mouth he'd popped a mint leaf, his car idling from when he'd pulled over, heat cranked up, and he chewed, scrolling through his phone for a moment before he shot said friend a text that read, went for a drive, text me when you're ready to go.

Gansey had pulled over because the snow flurries were a bit much, even with the safety of his Hummer, and he'd needed to check in anyway, but when his gaze finally lifted he found that the sky was clear and there was a strong scent wafting towards him. His door opened as he killed the engine, keys slipping into his coat pockets before he'd rounded the vehicle and found himself, almost compelled, to take a gander at the icy flowers that had sprouted.

The evening seemed to be growing colder by the minute and now with slightly wet clothing, Queenie was starting to feel the ill-effects of having dressed cute instead of smart. Her legs would have been shivering and trembling if they weren't hurriedly trying to make their way down the sidewalk, damp books still pressed tightly against her equally damp blouse. Fiery locks were trying to worm their way free of her tightly-fixed bun but Queenie's focus was on getting home and getting warm and not how she looked as she struggled down the street on the last day of the semester.

But, of course, things couldn't have gotten any easier for her. Not only was she finding herself in a soured mood but there was some preppy looking young man simply standing in the middle of the sidewalk, staring down at several of the weird snow flowers still sprouting up along the pathway.

He was handsome, judging by his profile, but he was also in her way.

"Do you make a habit of just standing around to stare at flowers?"

Her words were half tease, half sharp as she tried to sidle her way around the tall boy, her comment aimed to point out how he was blocking the pathway for anyone else who cared to share it. Her sass came back to bite her, however, as a particularly icy patch of the sidewalk had her shoe flying out from beneath her. Queenie let out a startled yelp as she began to fall backwards, books once again going flying in the process.

Snow had settled on the shoulders of his coat and Gansey had brought a hand up to futility dust them from his shoulder, several more snowflakes making a temporary home there as he stared off, at the flowers. It was the girl's voice that caught his attention first, even if he was aware of her approach in his peripheral vision.

There was a thoughtful chew, his mouth thinning as a cocky smile nearly graced his lips, something smooth surely trying to slip out when the ginger girl slipped instead. Thankfully, and luckily for her, his reaction time was quick and Gansey had taken a single long stride towards her, gloved hands reaching to catch her.

One hand was solidly against the middle of her back, the other catching a flailing hand when he drew her in, holding her close until he was certain she was stable on her own two feet. His grin was still as cocky as he had intended, but it came with the lick of his lips and the lifting of his eyebrows.

"If I wasn't standing here, who would have been here to catch you and save you from falling?" He asked.

Eyes closed as Queenie mentally prepared herself over the course of a split second for the harsh landing she was about to endure. Her outfit was going to get wet, her bottom was going to hurt and if she was lucky, she'd only get out of this situation with hurt pride and not anything more damaging.

Only, instead of making contact with the sidewalk, a strong hand moved out to steady her while the other collected her hand, now book-free. Pink eyes opened, eyelashes fluttering as she turned to stare up at her rescuer.

Queenie Bell found herself holding her breath without even realizing it. Watching his eyebrows rise and his tongue snake out from between his lips, she swallowed - hard.

Oh no, he was handsome.

"I wouldn't have slipped, if you weren't in the...way..."

Her defense was floundering, her distraction with the tall young man evident in the way she stared up at him. It took a moment for her to regain her bearings both mentally and physically before she took a step back, absentmindedly reaching down to brush at her skirt.

"But... thank you. For catching me, that is. My name's Queenie.... and you would be?"

His response was a low, almost rumbling chuckle when she tried to argue back. Space was given to her despite the desire to pull her closer but Gansey refrained, for now.

He was well aware of the effect he had on people, his charming smile was quiet the dazzling thing and it wasn't abnormal for members of all sexes to swoon over him. This girl would be no exception. He saw that swallow, after all.

He thought about responding with something wittier, but he decided to let it go, because she was trying to introduce herself and he could be suave later. Or right now, actually.

He reached for her hand, drawing it towards his mouth and kissing the back of it, right where her gloves stopped and her sleeve began and there was the tiniest sliver of skin.

"Gansey, the pleasure is all yours, I'm sure," he replied, pulling back and straightened, even tossing her a wink.

Queenie blinked as she watched the young man take hold of her hand as if it was the most natural, fluid motion and draw it up to his mouth. There was a slight tensing of her muscles as his head dipped, the confused girl suddenly delighted beyond words as she watched him kiss her hand. Somehow he'd managed to find skin, cool lips brushing against wrist that was otherwise protected from the elements.

Gansey. That was an original name, if she'd ever heard of one. It wasn't a common, everyday name - it was unique, just like her own and Queenie could appreciate the fact that it stood out.

The wink was also appreciated, bringing a stronger glow to her cheeks as the kissed hand rose up to brush back a few strands of loose hair. Oh, he was charming, there wasn't any doubt about it.

"Humble too, I see," she teased lightly, completely forgetting about the scattered books behind her in lieu of the surprisingly attractive and very ego-happy gentleman.

Taking a moment to glance at her surroundings, she noted the expensive looking vehicle parked nearby, free from the layers of snow the other vehicles on the side of the road suffered from. Could it...?

"Is that your ride, Mister Gansey?" she asked coyly, noting how absolutely, atrociously expensive it must be.

"Why hide a touch of greatness when it graces you?" Gansey replied, his smile full of straight, white teeth that clearly came from the benefit of someone who had money to spend on things like that. He took the opportunity to step closer to the young woman, one hand in his coat pocket.

"It is," he replied with a tone that almost implied duh. It was still warm to touch from the engine having been running only minutes prior and despite the snowfall and suffered not from the heavy dusting of snow that covered the other cars on the street.

"Would you like a ride home, Miss Queenie?" He offered, one brow arching when he bent his knee to gather up her fallen books. His height made it easy for him to collect everything before he offered them to Queenie.

His response had brows rising once more but she was too mesmerized by his smile to comment. When he stooped down to retrieve her things, she felt her heart flutter in response.

The offer of a ride home had it almost stopping mid-beat.

Arms squeezed the received books against her damp blouse, her eagerness apparent in her quick answer and mirroring white smile. "Why, that would be lovely, sir."

And with that, she allowed the young man to open the passenger door for her, sliding in to the expensive looking vehicle as if she were born for the role. Slipping the books down onto the floorboard, she clicked the seat belt into place and waited patiently for him to join her in the car, a genuine smile on her face.

Perhaps the walk home hadn't turned out so poorly, after all.
