Prompt 1
The Holidays are supposed to be a time for cheer, and yet there's something strangely dismal about tonight. You're out by yourself and you pass by a building completely coated in a strange sheet of ice. When you catch your reflection, you're trapped reliving your loneliest moment. The illusion can last for as long or short a time as you like, but the hollow sensation lingers even after the memory fades. What memory did you find yourself reliving and, now that it's over, what are you going to do to shake this mood?

Hyperborea was finishing up her patrol for the night, it had gotten colder recently a sure sign that winter was upon the city. Holidays were never an easy time for the knight of the Cosmos but things had gotten better since she had met her girlfriend Carlee, she had someone to share Christmas with again, in fact it was almost their one year anniversary so by all account the young knight should have been elated but something just seemed off tonight. She felt depressed out in the cold dark night.

She was about to turn around and head for home satisfied the area of safe when she noticed something strange out of the corner of her eye. A building gave off a strange gleam. A touch of the building confirmed her suspicions somehow this building was coated in a sheet of ice. This had to be more of that ‘holiday phenomena’ that seemed to happen every year. She hated not being able to explain these clearly magical events that seemed to happen every year. As she was examining it she caught her reflection and she felt the world fade away for a moment.

When it returned she was somewhere else, a place very familiar, her front door. But this was not present days this was several years in the past. A sinking feeling in her pit told Hyperborea exactly what day this was. It was her first time returning home after her parents had been killed. She pushed open the heavy doors that lead to the quiet and cold home. She remembered the awful pain and loneliness of that day how it had really set in that she would never again hear her mother welcome her home see her father’s smiling face as he asked how her day was. She looked into the den and saw the blood stained rug where her parent’s broken bodies had been. The crack in the marble from where she had beaten the youma to death, it brought Hyperborea no joy to know it was gone. She walked up to her bedroom to see the destroyed window, her ripped up bed, her favorite stuffed animal Lancelot torn to pieces. She picked up the mutilated bear and hugged him to her chest as tears fell. The silence of the house cut her deeper than any Nega’s blade ever could as she wondered exactly how she would keep going.

As the Memory faded she was left looking at her reflecting she could see that she had tears frozen to her cheeks. She dropped to her knees in the snow the hollow feeling from that memory settling in the pit of her stomach. In anger She struck the ice that made her relieve those pain memories with her fist, her immense strength cracking the ice. She needed to get home now. She need to call Carlee see if she had had any similar experiences recently. But more than anything she need to hear the voice of someone she loved.
