Fawn didn't remember how exactly she came to wander into the woods. She remembered her mother, a lovely cream colored she-cat named Marzipan. She remembered her siblings, Buttercup and Cloud, who would nestle up next to her with their mother. The next thing she knew, a moon later, she was placed into a box with her siblings and placed out into an alleyway. Two Twoleg kits picked up her siblings, but she was left alone in the box, unsure of whether her mother would come retrieve her or if another Twoleg would. She waited for a day and a half, but when no one came, she toddled off on her own.
She must have found the woods somehow even if she couldn't remember. She lapped at water in puddles and ate crowfood when she could find it, but it always made her tummy hurt. Lost and scared, Fawn had finally found some scattered leaves and piled them up, before burrowing under them and trying to imagine her siblings and mother with her. Flattening her ears, she stared out into the unknown, her golden eyes twinkling like tiny suns.

Maple's day had been as uneventful as ever. Ever since she was born, her mother a cat named Ginger, her life had been the same. Her father was a loner by the name of Birch. Both had died recently of old age. She had no siblings, she had been the only kit in the litter. She had been shown how to hunt and fight when she was young by a mother fearful for her only kits life. Her father was never all that fond of her, but she didn't now.
As of now, the young she cat wandered the forest, looking for prey among the vast area of land. She parted her jaws, her amber gaze intense as she stared ahead. The wind blew by, bringing along with it the scents of the woods. Her body stiffened and she sniffed again in disbelief. Was that.. Cat? The scent of a cat! She hadn't seen another cat since her parents death. Interest and worry surged through her. Why was there suddenly a cat in this part of the woods that she traversed so often? Were they okay? She started following the scent, keeping her jaws parted. Her gaze dashed around quickly for any sign of this other cat.

Fawn had begun to doze off under her leaf pile, not quite comfortable, but she was weary enough to be ready to sleep based on how far she had traveled that day. That was, until she heard the sound of pawsteps nearby. Her eyes shot open and she curled her paws closer to her when she saw a much larger cat stalking towards her pile. Shrinking in on herself, she tried to hide in her pile, only to let out a surprised cry when she felt a paw atop her tail.
Shooting upwards in a grand spray of orange, yellow and brown, she yanked her tiny tail from out under the she-cat's paw. Bristling and round-eyed, she darted towards the nearest tree and stared at the she-cat.
"Wh-Who're you? Whaddya want? Are you here to eat me?" She squeaked, her mew shrill.

Maple was creeping along the forest floor, her footsteps unable to be hidden due to the leaves that scatted the ground. Her ear twitched at the slightest sound. Movement under some leaves? She was heading straight after the scent, not even noticing the strange looking pile of leaves until she was on top of it. Literally.
She felt fur under her paw and heard a loud cry beneath her as the pile of leaves flung into her face and a small kit jumped out. She stumbled back in shock, eyes widening as she stared at the stuttering she kit. Her surprised gaze quickly softened. Her fur had begun to stand on end when it went down again. Poor thing was out here all alone! But why? Was she okay? She didn't look very hurt.. She felt a rush of guilt. She had stepped on the poor little kit's tail!
"Hello, little one. I'm Maple." She purred gently, unable to hide a mrrow of amusement at the kits strange ideas. "No, I'm not going to eat you. What are you doing alone out here?" She asked, crouching down so she was level with the kitten.

Fawn looked up, her icy blue eyes staring in fear and bewilderment at the she-cat who claimed that she was not, in fact, going to eat her. She tucked her tail closer to her, blinking slowly as the warm-colored she-cat introduced herself to be called Maple.
"Your name kinda sounds like Mama's." She mewed softly, her gaze trailing down for a moment at the memory of her mother and her siblings. She lowered her ears until she was asked what she was doing out there. Puffing out her chest, she looked up with nervous determination. "I-I live out here! This is my den and my woods and everything!" She patted her tiny paw against the clump of leaves. "Cause Mama's off with her Twolegs, and Buttercup and Cloud went off with Twolegs of their own, and, well... I'm here!" She frowned for a moment, her face taking on one of almost comedic concentration, before she relaxed as a conclusion was reached. "But, you know, you could stay here too! We could rebuild the den and you could stay in the woods and be here too!" She offered, perking her ears. She sure would like the company.

Maple gave a very kind, gentle look. She stayed bowed to the small kits height in an attempt to keep her calm and now seem too intimidating. Her heart throbbed as the small kit seemed so nervous. The poor thing! She'd find a way to protect her from the scary outside if it killed her.
"Really? Well, I'm sorry about that, little one!" She purred gently, She smiled at the leaf pile. "That's a very nice den, you did a good job." The she cat praised the kit gently, trying to be reassuring and build up Fawn's confidence. She purred in amusement. "I would love to help you rebuild your nice den and live in it, but I have a better idea. Why don't you come to my den and stay with me? It's very cozy and I can get you yummy prey!" She offered in a soft, motherly voice. She didn't want to scare the kit off by being to pushy but seeing that she called a leaf pile a den made her concerned. Though, she wouldn't show this concern to Fawn, in fear of scaring her,

Fawn tilted her head at the counter-proposal from Maple. She looked at her den, pawing the leaves around. She was certain it wouldn't take too long to rebuild it, but...
"Okay." She mewed, looking back to Maple. "Let's go to your den. Is it very far?" She asked, flicking her ears as a breeze rustled through the trees. "And... prey, what is it? Is it food?" She never heard the word before. She knew about milk, since her mother had it for her kits and she knew about Twoleg food and wet food, since that's occasionally what her mother ate, but... prey was new to her. It sounded good though, from how Maple was making it sound!

The she cat let out a relieved sigh as the small kit agreed to her proposal. She didn't want to have to inisst the kit come, or, worse, leave the kit here. The simple idea caused the cat to shake her head fervently. What monster would do such a thing?! She could never.
"It isn't too far." She purred smoothly, her tail slowly swaying behind her. Maple let out a soft laugh and the small cats ignorance to prey. "Yes, it's food. Do you know what a mouse is?" She asked, sweeping her tail slowly behind the kit to usher her forward as she began to pad back towards her den. Hopefully the kit followed without much issue.

Fawn blinked up at the she-cat. "A mouse?" She echoed. It was very likely that while she had seen the creatures before, she didn't know what they were called. She shook her head. "No... I don't. I'm sorry." She said, waddling after Maple.
"What is a mouse?" She asked. "Will you teach me? About everything?" She toddled under Maple's stomach, curling her spine to brush against the she-cat's stomach. "You're warmer than the leaf pile." She remarked.

Maple smiled and shook her head. "It's okay, little one. You don't need to know." She reassured gently, walking along with the small cat. She let out a surprised mew as the cat requested to be taught. "Oh, of course I will. I'll teach you everything I know." She insisted softly, padding along before pausing as she found the kit under her, pressing against her soft stomach. She let out a soft, adoring sigh. Kits were so cute! "I would hope so. If I wasn't I'd be freezing my tail off-." She went to say the kits name, before realizing she didn't know it. "What's your name, little one?"

Fawn tilted her head to one side, curious about what the older cat meant about her not needing to know. However, she perked up when the other agreed to teach her about everything. She poked her head out to peer up at Maple.
"My name's Fawn!" She mewed. "My mother gave it to me, because she said that I looked like a baby deer, only, I don't know what those look like, so I dunno if it's true or not." She admitted, but then she looked down. "I don't know where my mama is now... Living with her Twoleg, I guess, but her Twoleg didn't want me or my siblings, so... Now I'm here." She didn't want to recount the rest. Getting put in that empty box, with her sister and brother. Watching Hazelnut get picked up and taken away first and then Songbird following shortly after.
She ducked her head to her chest. "Will we be at your den soon?" She asked quietly.

The she-cat gave a warm smile to the small kit. "Fawn, huh? A pretty name for a very pretty cat." She assured softly, nudging the kit with her paw. "You do look like a little deer, I've seen one once before on my journey throughout these areas." Maple informed Fawn.
She hesitated her pace and frowned, this poor little kit, abandoned! "Well, no need to worry about that now. Your mother didn't seem to be willing to keep you with her, but I am. I will be your new mother." Maple decided then and there. "Yes, we are close, Fawn, it's just around this corner."
As if on cue, the ginger she turned the corner and headed for what seemed to be brambles and plants strewn together to make a den-like area. "I made this a while back and have called it my home ever since, now, it will be your home as well!"

Fawn looked up with a slow, shy smile at Maple. "You'll be my mother?" She echoed with a quiet purr. As the realization slowly began to sink in, she rubbed her head against Maple's leg. "I love you." She squeaked, dropping any wariness. She was a gullible kit and to her, if someone offers to be your mama, it must mean that they love you very much. Despite what Maple had said about Fawn's mama before, she did think that Marzipan would've kept her, if she could. Now, however, she didn't have to worry too much about old mothers, cause she had a new one!
Looking into the den, her eyes got very round. She looked from the brambles and plants to her new mama and it was then that she smiled. "I can hardly wait." She purred and stepped inside.AlicornPlayhouse Do you want to make the next post to wrap up this RP?

Maples' heart skipped a beat at the kits soft words, and the fact the small kit rubbed against her leg. She would protect Fawn now, she had to. Fawn was just far too precious to lose! "Yes, I will be your mother." She reassured, giving the kit a lick on the head. She leads her into the den and flicked her tail, the ground covered in soft leaves and plants. "Lay down and rest with me, young one." Without another word, though, she curled around the cat. "I'll protect you, and you'll be safe here." She purred softly, and with that, began slowly grooming the kits pelt.
( Boom! Its done, woohoo )
