It was with pure, unadulterated excitement that Daichi came bounding across the field. He and his sister were now older, now ready to train for their adult names, and Daichi was giddy for it. Soon, they'd be considered full-fledged adults.
... Not that he acted like it. Leaping through the air, the cheetah giggled (manly giggles, he'd later insist) as he tumbled through the grass and down a hill.
He was waiting for his father to show up, something about going out with him, something-something patrolling, something-something good for him -- whatever. He was just excited to go out towards the border!

Kshtiji walked calmly he was not a bouncy sort of cheetah he wasn't sure where Daichi got his upbeat nature, but it didn't really matter since he loved his cubs more than his own life. They were growing up quickly and would soon earn their adult names and walk their paths as full members of the pride. He would take his son on patrol with him and let him get a feel for what it meant to protect the pride. Once he was with his son he gestured his head to the direction they were heading towards the border to start their patrol.

Daichi practically popped up when he saw his dad there, sitting almost ramrod straight, albeit with his tail wiggling excitedly behind him. Oops, he probably shouldn't have acted that way, but hey, Kshtiji didn't seem to care anyway.
Hopping after him, the young cheetah chirped up happily, "Hi dad!" He trotted, or well, bounced beside him as the adult continued walking, "So where do we start? Will there be enemies there?" He jumped forward and crouched with a smirk on his face and furrowed eyebrows, "I'm ready to show people what's what."
Honestly, he didn't actually know what you did during a patrol, but he imagined it as this awesome, adventurous thing.

Kshtiji smiled at his son he loved his kids with all his heart, his tail was calm because he kept his body in a calm state. Perhaps odd since his family had been one about speed and racing, he, however, preferred this life where he didn't feel a need to rush through his life. He nodded his head "Yes you will have a chance to show the pride, what is what." His tone was very dad like, no where near cool. He frowned "I hope there are no enemies, you should never seek out a battle Daichi." He lectured his son. "This job is to protect the pride not seek out trouble to bring to the pride keep that in mind, let's go to the border and patrol." He said leading the way out towards the border.

He didn't really care either way if his dad was "cool", though maybe that had more to do with the fact that he didn't have anyone to show that to. It was probably just as well.
As his dad lectured him though, the cheetah drooped in a sulk but thankfully stopped to listen... albeit a bit grudgingly. Yeah, okay, he had a point... but that didn't mean he didn't hope for something exciting to happen. As his dad turned to leave, Daichi grinned, seeming to forget his earlier sulking, and took off after him.
As they got close to the edge of their territory, he bounded out ahead of his dad and then skidded to a stop by the border, sniffing at it and excitedly looking out on the other side.
Tilting his head, he called back to Kshtiji, "What's it like out there?"

Kshtiji thought about the rogue lands and his time wandering them "It is very wide and open, you must be careful traveling the rogue lands mindful on how to find food, water, mindful that you could be attacked by a stranger, the rogue lands are not like living in a stationary pride or even a migrating pride. You must be on your guard if you ever wish to live or travel that area." He said firmly he would not hold his son to stay in the pride for the rest of his life but he would teach him how to survive if he ever wanted to seek a different life than a pride life. Kshtiji was happy to settle down here with Tiel and did not think he would be changing his mind.

He tilted his head the other way as he listened, trying to imagine what it was like. It all sounded very difficult and exciting and scary and interesting, all at the same time. He wondered idly if his father and mother had been different when they were both rogues. But then, they probably wouldn't have met had Tiel not been here when Kshtiji passed by.
Nodding his head slowly, the cheetah looked back at him and smiled, "I will!" He hopped forward then, along the border, "So what do you do now that you're here?" He paused, "Just... walk?"

(Do you want to toss in ghost lights or voices, or hyenas?? To spice up the action?)

Kshtiji just nodded and started walking the border normally it was peaceful with nothing special to see besides the passing bird or a lizard moving along their way. This time however he saw lights floating around the land and he was rather confused yes it was getting darker, but these did not appear to be fireflies and the somber festival was long since over. He blinked confused and was about to turn and ask his son if he saw the same thing.

He tried not to pout at how boring that sounded. Just walking. He tried to focus on the task at hand, keeping an eye out for anything that might seen off, but his short attention kept pulling him away. He would walk a few steps off before realizing what he was doing and trotting back to his father.
That was when the lights started. Having not been there for the festival, he had no idea what a firefly looked like, let alone what these were, and his need for something to happen made him gasp and charge closer.
"Ooo, what are those?"

Kshtiji frowned looking at the strange lights and watched as his son moved closer to the lights, "I'm not sure son." He moved closer as well this was something the pride should know about since it didn't look normal and was well a time away from the somber festival. He wasn't sure what to make of it or what to do about it. He tried to hit the light with his paw to see if it would disappear, perhaps it was an illusion of some sort. Being a guard was normally a very quiet peaceful job, clearly, things were being shaken up a bit this time.

Daichi barely registered his dad coming closer, but he did notice the paw reaching up to swat at the light. It seemed to wiggle in the air for a moment, before exploding in a shower of light.
The young cheetah's eyes literally and figuratively sparkled at that, and he couldn't help the excited keen. "Cool!"
Then, without another pause, he charged forward and started batting at as many as he could reach, causing showers of light to rain around them.

Kshtiji chuckled it seemed there was no harm in these strange ghost lights they appeared and disappeared at there will. So he joined his son in a game of tackle the ghost lights, even he sometimes needed to let loose and have a little fun. It was good he had his family to remind him of that. (Fin?)

The male bounced up and down, laughing as he set off a few more lights and then bounded back towards dad. Well, perhaps border patrol wasn't as boring as he thought it'd be, and hey, he got his dad to loosen up a bit too. Win-win situation!
That said... patrolling could wait just a bit longer. After all, they should, ah.... investigate these lights a bit more thoroughly.
So with that thought, he zoomed forward again to bat at the lights some more.
