3 Base Traits: Serious, hard working, and Loyal
Personality: Keoki is known as a very serious guy, when he tells someone he is going to do something, he will do it. He will get right down to what he wants to do, he sees no point in stalling when something needs to be done. You can trust that he knows what he is talking about when he is talking about the flora and fauna of the area. Unfortunately, this leads to him being too stoic at times. He doesn't really think it is funny if someone is going around pulling pranks on others, surely they must have something better to do. If someone were to pull a prank on him, he would not be mad, but he would suggest they might have something else they could be doing. And why are those people playing games, don't they know that there is work to be done? It is rare to see a smile on his face in public, some people think that he doesn't know how to show emotions at all. Those who know him, however, know that it is not true. Around them, he is known to smile, and know how to have fun. He just believes there is a time and place for everything. He needs to learn to lighten up around those who do not know he has a fun side to him.
He is also hard working, he will make sure his work is done and it is done right. He doesn't mind getting dirty at all, it is not uncommon for him to get home all covered in mud. If anyone needs a hand, he is right there to give it and will not leave until the job is done. If he isn't sure how to do something, he will learn everything he can on it and put all he has into making sure he practices until he gets it right. This leads to him overextending himself, all in the hopes of making sure no task gets left undone. He will even take over for others, if he thinks they are slacking off or needs the assistance. There are nights he doesn't get home until late because he didn't want to quit until he feels a job is complete. He is also a bit of a perfectionist, feeling that everything should be done just so. Sure, everyone has there own way of doing things, but each way should have a perfect way to do it..so he thinks. He has to learn to take a break sometimes and that there is beauty in things being not so perfect too.
Keoki is also very loyal to those he cares about, always there if they need him. No matter what, he will be there to help them move their stuff to a new house or listen to their problems. If he sees someone picking on a loved one, he will have no trouble sticking up for them. Unfortunately, because he has been hurt in his young life, he is slow to trust most of the time. It takes effort for people to get past his defenses and get him to open up to them. Unless you are family, he will assume the worst and others will have to prove they are not like those who betrayed him. It is worth the effort, however, even if it seems hopeless to start with.
History: Keoki has always admired the work that his parents do in helping to catch Ikiula. He could watch them for hours as they take nets to catch these shelled creatures, despite the little things trying to hide in the mud. He knows it takes a lot of skill and dedication to capture them, so that their people can enjoy this wonderful delicacy. He is proud of his family, each of them contributing to the needs of his people. Besides his parents, he has five siblings that he loves and helps them anytime they need it. He is also close to his extended family as well, though they live in another village, so he doesn't get to see them as much as he would like.
As much as he loves what his parents do, his calling is in a different area. Knowing how important the water weeds are for clothing, he has decided he wants to help in gathering and drying them. He has been learning everything he can on how best to do those, along with how to maneuver in those shallow waterways. He loves the challenge of a place where anyone new to the area would have trouble getting around. So he is dedicated to learning everything he can about all these weeds and maybe finding a way to keep them growing, so they never run out of materials for clothes.
When he was younger, he used to love exploring and having some fun, not always deep in work. He had learned that you could have fun and work at the same time, his family seemed to do that well enough. However, he was unintentionally hurt in his life, that makes him more likely to bury himself in his work, leaving less room for fun. He had a friend at the time, who he had been very close to. They used to do everything together and it seemed they would always be friends. Unfortunately, his friend was a bit of a prankster and told some lies about Keoki to someone else, just to see how far he could take it. Unfortunately, since this person did not know Keoki, they believed his friend. Although his friend tried to make it up to him, Keoki was so hurt, that he lost his ability to trust easily and hasn't spoken to that friend again since. It also made it where he is more serious about things, his belief that everything had a time. Maybe one day he will re-build that bridge with his friend, time will tell. Thankfully, he has his family, who helped comfort him and let him know the right people would be his friends. Still, it will take time for him to trust people he doesn't know because of this betrayal of his first friend.
