Nolan begrudgingly trudged through the cold streets at night. He had been assigned by one of the teachers at Romano's to go and fetch something. He was a senior for goodness sake! He shouldn't have to go on fetch quests! But it didn't matter. The school was military-like for a reason, and he would be in trouble if he were to disrespect one of his "higher ups". Still though, it got him a chance to be outside of the school and wander around for a bit. It was the weekend. He had done everything that needed to be completed so far except for bringing back the package, and was free to wander around until he needed to head back before the curfew hit. It had been a while since he had had the chat with that... lieutenant was it? Who described herself as some sort of super hero. He didn't really believe the hero part, but he did like that she seemed to have powers... and that was something he craved very badly. Romano's could shape him up, but it did leave him bitter that he didn't have as much control as he wanted. And so he was muttering to himself about the assignment, finally passing by one of the parks that were littered with coma-induced trees and leaves everywhere when he thought he saw... someone. He wasn't sure though but he decided to take a closer look, just in case it was something interesting.

Research was a hungry creature.
It demanded everything. Hours. Thought. Sacrifice. All for a glimpse of the smallest glimmer of truth, the tiniest mote of understanding amid the vast depths of the unknown. It required absolute dedication. And when it came to her thesis, Zircon could give nothing less. She could lose battles, lose respect, lose parts of herself, but her research would always be hers, and it would long outlive her.
So when she powered up, it was to research, and it was in the pursuit of research that had her powered up this evening, standing in the park in the cold with her hands in the sternum of some unfortunate vagabond. Wordlessly, she turned her wrist and wrenched it away, her fingers closed around some octohedron jewel, and the figure slumped at her feet. She nudged at the crumpled body with her left heel, held to her body by an exposed metal prosthetic, and when it didn't move she pocketed the gem.
Leaves crunched in the distance. Zircon's head snapped up. And then she disappeared into nothing--at least, it seemed that way at first.
"It's rude to eavesdrop," came a soft voice from behind Nolan, calm and cold. Zircon looked at the boy's uniform, then pursed her lips. "Why are you out here?" It would not be so simple to take his starseed for her hungry creature, not if he went to Romano's. He might have been someone's...project.

Nolan had thought he had seen someone, but as soon as his eyes had registered the person in the darkness, or what he thought had been registered, they were gone. Before he had time to blink however, they were behind him, and he couldn't help but jump a little at the voice. He whirled around, almost hitting the other. It was some woman who looked to be in some sort of... pilot's uniform? He didn't know. After taking a second to keep himself from squeaking out in reply he said, "I was getting a package for someone. I saw something in the darkness of the park and I was curious as to what it was." He wondered for a moment... "Was it you? How did you get behind me so quickly?" If he was a cat, curiosity probably would have killed him many years ago. "Wait... are you one of them? Those... Negaverse people?" He knew about the terrorists, though he didn't care about them. But they seemed to have all of those white uniforms on. This one was no where near that absence of color. "What were you doing out here?" He didn't know that he was in any danger. From what he had heard about the Negaverse, they seemed like they better ones.

"You know what they say about curiosity and the cat," Zircon chided, though for her severe gaze there was an interested quirk to one side of her mouth as she slowly paced around him, sizing him up. In spite of her steady footfalls, there was still a small limp to her gait, a little stutter where her left foot hit ground a little earlier than it should have.
"I teleported," she answered plainly, watching for a response. Testing his reaction. "I could be. What do you know about the Negaverse, to make that deduction?" There was no discounting the fact that this boy could be a senshi, or perhaps one of their own doing an internal investigation. It would not do to give him too much information all at once, but the fact that he didn't seem to be afraid had her intrigued. It was probably just stupidity, but perhaps...
"I was collecting data for my research," she answered again, stopping her pace. "Nothing a Romano's student need concern himself with. Now go home."

Nolan felt nervous with the woman circling him. She could easily hurt him. After all, he was just a skinny teen still. And she looked like she had experience. "Yes... sometimes one must go and look anyway though if they are to get anywhere." He replied, giving the other a serious look. How else were discoveries made other than someone being curious? Even if one stumbled upon it, they had to be curious enough to look at it a bit closer. "Teleported?" His eyes widened. He didn't think it was possible! "That's amazing!" And now his child-like eagerness was starting to surface again. "I've met an agent. They saved me from... some sort of monster. Though they were a..." He tried to think of it. What was their name again? "A lieutenant I believe. Chrysoprase was their name. They were the one who told me about the Negaverse." He grinned at the General. "Though, she told me the Negaverse was full of super heroes out to destroy the "bad guys". I thought that was a bit silly, but I was interested. I don't know the "bad guys" she was talking about though. But I believe they were the terrorists."His mouth turned into a grimace when she told him to go home. "Well I'm sorry for interrupting your research but, I want to know more about this Negaverse!" He was reaching now. He couldn't really say he wanted to know "just because". "Let me join you guys! I want some of that power!" And now his selfish side was coming out. He wanted the power. He wanted it for himself. And it probably wasn't the best way to impress the General. But he honestly didn't have any other reasons as to why he wanted to join.

"Calling them 'bad guys' is an oversimplification. They're more like...parasites, or invaders," Zircon responded, after a moment to think over her words. He couldn't have known the sort of danger he was in, challenging her command with his little outburst. Part of her wanted to snuff him out for his disrespect, but part of her found it...somewhat charming, compared to the stiff compliance of the subordinates she'd collected. They knew how to fear properly. This one didn't, but he knew just enough to want for more. It was grating, but...Zircon could respect that.
"You're mistaken if you think the Negaverse is an easy way to get power," she added, continuing her slow circle around him. "It's not a club for schoolboys, it's the last line of earth's defenses. Our agents fight and die for the privilege to serve Metallia. You'd be put to drudgework, possibly for years, before you got the slightest taste of what you're looking for."
"Last chance--go home," Zircon commanded, stopping her pace just outside of arm's reach. A simple mind would have followed her orders, turned and ran and died for it, but she was beyond the thought of just killing him. Someone with curiosity and questions was a valuable resource, and not to be squandered. But she would only bring him into Metallia's fold after she could determine how committed he was to his ambitions, so she waited patiently, her words telling him to go, her eyes compelling him to stay.

"Parasites? What do you mean?" He asked, looking at the woman still, though wondering if he would get any answers. He honestly didn't care about being some 'super hero' or whatever. But there was a way to get power, to understand a part of the world that no regular human was a part of and he wanted to join it. He made a face when Zircon told him about what he would have to do. "Isn't that how it is everywhere? You have to start from the bottom to get to the top, otherwise you wouldn't be good at your job now would you?"He grinned at her. A bit of drudgery was nothing. He was already being forced to do practically-slave work at Romano's, even if he did enjoy working in the kitchen from time-to-time. "I'd rather not. Now you've got me intrigued. I want to know more about this Negaverse, what these parasites you're talking about are. What's really going on with the world, since the news stations and even the dark internet don't seem to know about it." He didn't really care about defending Earth. It was practically all on it's last legs anyway. But if there was a way to save himself... It sounded like this Negaverse was a way to protect it, but what kind of protection? He wanted to know. "Kill me if you must, but I'm not moving."

Zircon's lip curled, not quite a smile, not quite a snarl. "It means they're an illness of the planet and have to be removed," she responded, taking a step closer. She knitted her fingers together and turned her wrists, stretching the achy tendons in her hands--she needed to be precise if she wanted a lieutenant and not a youma.
"If you won't move, you'll serve," she stated, reaching up for his chest, fingers dipping into the cavity of subspace to feel for his soul. A starseed was such a delicate thing, and when she wrapped her palm around his, she resisted the l'appel du vide of just pulling his life from him, or transfusing so much chaos that he snapped and became a mindless creature to control. Instead, she focused and ignored whatever little protests he might have had about the arrangement, and her lips quirked again when she reached for her connection to Metallia and drove chaos into his starseed, binding him to the cause. It spread over his body like ink, stitching together a uniform and a glamour and the hints of a chaos presence, just like her own. When she felt satisfied, she let him free and stepped back, appraising her work.
"The best way to learn is by doing and experiencing," Zircon mused, something like approval in her eyes. "Congratulations, lieutenant. Welcome to the Negaverse." Without much ceremony, she offered up her hand, with the silent expectation that he take it in his. "Come. Let me show you what you've just inherited."

When she was able to literally put her hand through his chest and grab onto... well what he assumed was his heart, he truly thought she was going to kill him. After all, she was touching his heart. She was going to rip it out Mortal Kombat style and he would be dead. The pain that followed it only made that feeling even greater and he grabbed onto her hand through it since his instinct was to try and stop whatever was trying to kill him. But trying to get a hand out of one's chest just wasn't possible. He still felt the pain, but he also felt something else. Though the pain was ever present it was as though something was being put inside of him, like one would put a vaccine into their arm, only this was throughout his entire body. He gasped when she let go of him though he collapsed onto the ground, though he held himself up by one of his feet and the other his knee. He still felt tiny pangs throughout his body, but he could definitely tell that something was different. For one he was no longer wearing his coat and he looked at his arms. He had... an outfit on. Not the same as hers, so it was a little weird, but he felt... good. Better than he had as just a human. He finally managed to get up and looked up at his superior and grinned. "Lieutenant... I like that." He raised an eyebrow at the offered hand, but took it nonetheless. "Sounds good to me." He said, wanting to learn everything that came with these new powers. AMItotic end post from me! Thanks for the corruption!

Zircon's fingers closed around his hand--hers was cold, but her eyes were warm. And then with a blink they both were gone, off to see the wonders of the Dark Kingdom he had just pledged to serve.
