Abilities
As a typical human, Roland has no known latent abilities, let alone those he can use. As such, his strengths primarily lie in his small arms and hand-to-hand training, teamwork, and other mundane resources. This is nearly certain to remain the case barring a transformation into one of the fantastic races of the land.

Race: Human
Personality: Roland tends to filter his own feelings when engaged in an investigation, giving him the focus necessary to keep his head in the game even while under fire or if dire circumstances force a rigid time constraint upon him. Roland's inquisitive nature has also led him to ask questions and listen until he completely understands a problem or at least the root cause, giving his task forces the information necessary to arrest suspects and secure the neighboring areas. In his personal relationships, Roland is mild-mannered and polite to a fault, though he may come off as somewhat panicked during dire conversations.

Biography: A son of two middle-income immigrants, Roland Baker graduated among the top fifteen percent of his high school class and received scholarship offers from multiple universities for achieving reasonable grades. However, Roland chose to enlist in the armed forces instead, taking the 18 year old through basic combat training and infantry training where he graduated with distinction. Roland's subsequent deployments were first among army bases on his home soil before a terrorist incident saw him being deployed overseas to an unfamiliar environment: There, Roland led a fire team of three other men as part of a patrol, and his team provided support to two other fire teams during search-and-destroy operations.
Six months into his first deployment, Roland's company was tasked with tracking and arresting the leader of an insurgency cell. HUMINT indicated the presence of snipers near the target's vicinity, and signals intelligence pointed to an abandoned structure at a plaza corner. To avoid suspicion, the company would split into their constituent platoons; in one platoon, two teams- Roland's team included- would provide counter-sniper fire while an unspecified group from a separate branch would breach, apprehend, and secure the target of interest. The four remaining teams would capture any fleeing insurgents.
The operation failed.
Three of Roland's friends fell to enemy fire in the first thirty minutes. Roland narrowly avoided death himself just as a bullet whizzed by, only for the shell to pierce the flesh of another comrade to his flank. Confusion ran amok among Roland's team as the counter-snipers made a tactical withdrawal, but only with limited success. Roland and his fellow rifleman regrouped with a backup fire team; they would eventually neutralize the insurgents by the following hour from an undefended spot, but without the wanted cell leader the mission had gone to waste. No fewer than eight soldiers would lose their lives before the end of the day.
Roland would never return to the front lines as an infantryman. Instead, through the careful observation of a Dr. Yoshiro, Sergeant Roland Baker was identified as a high risk patient who could develop PTSD in response to the events of that particular day. Hesitant at first, Roland finally agreed to undergo counseling as well as prepare for a transfer into a new MOS of his choosing. Four years after joining the Army- that was, six months after the failed mission- Roland returned to his homeland with an honorable discharge and full access to healthcare.
Fortunately for Roland, the man discovered an interest for something he never considered prior to enlistment; his aptitude scores pointed strongly towards a possible career in military forensics, specifically as a criminal investigator, before he decided on his Infantry MOS prior to enlistment. Roland studied for and excelled in his admission exams, a stark contrast to his mediocre high school performance, before he enrolled at a junior college for his Associates in Criminal Justice. Two years later, at the age of twenty-five, Roland graduated at the top of his JC class before he transferred to a state university.
At the age of twenty-seven, Roland graduated c** laude with a Bachlors of Science in Criminal Justice, having taken additional classes in forensics and pre-Law as well as dedicating time to maintain his physical and mental fitness. Continuous support from his military psychiatrist, psychologist, and campus counselors gave Roland much needed help with regards to his psychiatric fortitude. Finally, Roland's acceptance and subsequent enrollment into the national law enforcement and investigation academy gave the man much needed validation in his own capabilities.
Roland has served for three years as a national Investigator, responding to summons by his superiors where his expertise is needed. Presently, due to reports of a fellow agent's disappearance in the City, Roland has arrived to discover the missing agent, discern the possible cause of death, and identify the culprit. Time will determine whether the Investigator needs to take a deeper look at the City's disturbances..
Strengths
✓ Problem Solving: Roland's first and foremost priority is the assessment, analysis, and resolution of criminal cases. Extensive field experience and education in the art of critical thinking helps Roland with sorting the bullshit from the facts. His herculean ability to subsequently deduce the course of events that transpired also helps in securing the prosecutor's case.
✓ Firearms Training: A distinguished sharpshooter and rifleman from the Army, Roland has almost fifteen years of experience as a former Infantryman and MP.
✓ Hand-to-hand Combat Training: As part of his military and civil law enforcement training, Roland holds professional proficiency in mixed martial arts. Situations requiring an up-close-and-personal confrontation may or may not be skewed in his favor.
✓ Post-traumatic Growth: During his years of service in the Army and civil service, Roland has watched some of his comrades-in-arms pass away on the field. While devastating, something in Roland's spirit refuses to yield to terminal feelings of guilt and hopelessness: He has come to internalize that there are some things outside his control, among which include death. In doing so, Roland has developed a resilient mindset, one tempered by events that have battered many others in similar situations.
Weaknesses
✗ Impatience: Convinced that seconds matter even when there are hours to make a decision, Roland must constantly resist the urge to act impulsively on a hair-trigger sensitive situation.
✗ Single-minded Obsessive: A workaholic by heart, Roland's social (And romantic!) life has suffered by the hands of his caseload. While this has secured Roland's reputation as a skilled investigator, this has a detrimental impact on his capability to perform social engineering attacks.
✗ Muggle: As an ordinary human, Roland has no magical abilities and all of the typical weaknesses associated with the human condition. Roland must utilize mundane methods to handle his problems.
✗ Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: Though it is mild and bordering on subclinical, Roland must take a standard antidepressant dose once in the morning for optimal wellness.
