Ecco Ecco wasn’t feeling well. That potion wasn't working. She was still just as small as she'd always been, but now she had an awful stomachache and she wasn't feeling up to anything. Lethargy dragged at her limbs and it was all she could do to drag herself toward bed. Her blinks took longer and longer for her to pry her eyes open and it was no surprise when her slow trudge was abruptly halted by another body. It took a few seconds to realize she'd bounced right off the other freshling and a few more for her to actually look at them. Another few blinks and she concentrated on them. "S'rry. . ." she mumbled, her lids drooping. Marlais Marlais had been wandering the corridor when he'd seen the slime. The race was super new and this one was pink like bubblegum and very sleepy. Unable to help his curiosity, he'd trailed after her halfway down the hall. Tails flicking, he'd sidled in front of her when it looked like she was going to run into one of the walls. Instead of stopping, she'd continued until she'd bounced him into the wall. "Oof!" Marlais bounced off the wall and almost back into the slime. He hadn't thought she'd be moving that fast, but apparently she had somewhere to be in a hurry. "Are. . . .you ok?" he asked once he realized he wasn't too hurt. She'd mumbled a sorry and now looked like she was falling asleep. Why didn't she take a nap on the floor or something? Ecco Was she. . .ok? Ecco thought about it. She was exhausted. It was all she could do to keep her mind focused on moving one foot then the other. Unable to figure out what she should say, she kept quiet and started to make her way around him. She just had to make it to bed and she could sleep. Then she'd feel better. Right? The only other alternative was that she was dying. The thought was almost enough to shock her from her state of stupor. Adrenaline flooded her for a minute, perking her up a bit. Dying wasn't like this. . was it? She hadn't been born that long ago. Was she really destined to die before she even got to be an adult. Was she going to leave Di'o alone forever? Marlais At first, Marlais was sure that she was just going to trudge away and he was ready to go get a caretaker. She wasn't acting normal. Maybe it was a slime thing, but it was scaring him. But then her expression turned to one of fear and he couldn't help but approach her. " "Hello? What's wrong??" he tried again. She was looking more alert, maybe she'd answer this time. There wasn't anything he could do if she didn't. Worried that she was going to start looking tired again, Marlais approached and grabbed her hand. "Why are you scared? It's ok, I'm here!" Ecco The feeling of someone grabbing her hand and holding it tight helped. It helped much more than she'd expected it would. Taking a deep breath, Ecco looked at the kumiho, turning as she did. "I-i'm so tired. . . a-am I dying?" Even as she asked, she could feel herself slipping deeper into exhaustion again. Blinking rapidly, she tried to stay awake. "I-I don't want to die!" Her voice was slowly getting higher pitched, even as it became harder and harder to speak. Di'o wasn't around. . .would someone tell them? Someone would tell them right? Di'o had to know. They had to. She just wanted to be big like them! Marlais Marlais squeezed the slime's hand, wincing a bit at the squishy texture. It was almost enough to get him to release it, but he persisted. "You're not dying!" he said with a confidence he wasn't sure he felt. Keeping a firm grip on her hand, he started to drag her to the nearest caretaker. He'd seen one down like three halls. Surely they hadn't gotten far. "HEY!" he shouted. "HEEEEYYYYY!!" If he wanted someone soon, then he was gonna have to make some noise. The sound of his own voice so loud startled him a bit, but feeling her start to sag behind him, he had to do something. "I'm Marlais! Wake up! It's not naptime!! What's your name?" Ecco "E-ecco. . ." she said through a yawn. Then she rubbed her eye with her free hand. Try as she might, she couldn't help but sag. Getting pulled along was helping to keep her awake, but just barely. Soon it wasn't going to matter too much. She was going to sleep. All her limbs were starting to ache, and her heart was pounding so hard. This was it. She was dying. Fat tears started gathering before streaking down her cheeks. She was so tired she couldn't even bring herself to start wailing. The tears made it so that she could barely see Marlais' expression in front of her. Marlais "It's nice to MEET YOU, ECCO," Marlais spoke louder as Ecco wilted more. It was becoming more urgent by the minute that he find someone that could help this. "HELP!" he shouted. "HELP!!" Ears perked for the slightest hint that someone was coming, he sighed with relief when he heard the sound of fast footsteps heading this way. That had to be a teacher or someone coming to see what they were yelling about. Just as they came into sight, Ecco collapsed. Unbidden, tears gathered in his eyes and streaked down his cheeks. She was still breathing, but she wasn't awake and no matter how much he shook her, she wouldn't wake up. Ecco Ecco tried her best. Really she did. But the world was just way too heavy and she had to lay down. The next thing she knew, she was blinking at the ground. Then without warning she slipped into darkness. The caretaker, drawn by Marlais' screams, checked on her to see what was wrong. Marlais stood to the side, worried and unable to help, trying to explain what had happened. It wasn't much use, since he hadn't had any idea either. Marlais rushed along with them as they were taken to the nurse's office. There he was ushered out as they tried to find out what had happened to little Ecco. Marlais Marlais, shoved out of the picture, cried. His fists balled into his sweater it took his father coming and physically removing him to get him to leave the area where Ecco was. He'd just met her but he wanted to be sure she was ok. Nobody could tell him what was going on, least of all his father. Noire couldn't understand why Marlais was so upset and whenever he tried to explain, it just came out a blubbering mess. When Noire reassured him that he'd asked the nurse to tell him when they knew what was going on, Marlais finally relaxed enough to fall straight asleep, exhausted.
