It was all over the news. Brodie was sitting in his parents' living room, watching the television intently. Thick blonde brows furrowed, his face settling into an expression of frustration and anger twisted together. He hadn't even noticed his fingertips were digging into the soft fabric of the arm rests of the chair he was sitting on. How the hell did a prison manage to lose a dangerous ******** convict? Not only did this person get out, but they were broadcasting to the entire city that they could be literally anywhere.
The entire city was on lock-down, the citizens being told to stay indoors while the authorities play hide and seek with this guy.
There's probably somehow Negaverse involvement, he thought idly to himself. It wouldn't surprise him if they had people on the inside, corruption among the government and local police, that were able to conveniently allow this convict to escape.
He glanced across the room at his parents and two younger siblings, his temper flaring that some psycho was out there and had they not all been here together, he wouldn't have been able to protect them. He made eye contact with Raleigh for a brief moment, sure that the two of them were on the same page- he knew all too well how eager his sister likely was to get out there to stop the bad guy, and all he could do was shake his head just slightly enough that she would pick up on it.
I'm not letting you out of my sight, he thought, as his stare bore into her. Her body relaxed into the couch and he was sure he had gotten through to her when the wind picked up violently. The lights flickered before the power went out and JJ let out an annoyed groan. The family sat in silence for a moment, waiting to see if the lights would come back on. Brodie was sure he heard creaking outside, as if someone was walking on their front porch. There was a scratch on the window and with his patience running out and his temper flared, he stood up and stomped his way over to the window to take a look outside. A power line was down, that much was clear... And as far as he could tell there was definitely no one out there. He turned the flashlight on on his cellphone to look over the entirety of the front porch just to be one hundred percent sure.
Only when he was satisfied that they were alone, he moved to reclaim his place back on the chair in the corner. Brodie's hands instinctively went into the pockets of his hoodie, his fingertips on his right hand gently brushing over the cool metal of his henshin pen. He'd be ready for whatever or whoever came for them. He was sure that Raleigh's fingers were on the magical trigger as well, which made him juuuuust a touch more anxious about the entire situation- she tended to get herself into way more trouble than he did as a Senshi.
He hadn't intended to spend the night at his parents' place, but it appeared there would be a change in Brodie's plans. Now he had to play guardian and make sure some a*****e didn't come barging in here and hurt his family.
They were safer together, he told himself over and over again. As long as they all stayed in the same place, everything would be fine.
