A new temporary co-op shop called the Boo-tique has opened up for the holiday season. Folks from all around the city are selling neat odds and ends to celebrate the spooktacular parties and events to come at the end of the month. While you’re trying on one of the many costumes for sale, you leave the dressing room and find yourself engulfed in a world associated with whatever costume you put on. You can't go far--only a few feet in any direction, as if you hit an invisible wall. There is no person there, no animals, but a very vivid sight. After a few moments, you blink once and it's all gone--you've returned to the mothball-smelling, dusty dressing room you’d originally entered. The costume you’d put on has no price tag and if you approach a staff member to purchase or question it, they take it away and apologize -- it shouldn’t have been out on the floor to begin with. What… exactly happened?
What do you get a girl who could probably get anything she wanted?
It was a question Max posted on reddit, and he got a mixed bag of answers, that was for sure. Some were stupid. ‘Your d**k’. Others were not subtle, ‘a nice dinner at home with rose petals leading to the bed room’, (he tried not to think about THAT too much). Some he wasn’t sure how much she’d like ‘gift cards’, ‘jewelry’, ‘cute selfie camera that does that polaroid thing’. But the thread had been helpful. A number of women had posted to take her out, do something fun that he and she hadn’t done before. Go on an adventure one said. Get her something cute and new- something that reminds you of her! He liked those replies best because despite their ambiguity, they offered a different way of thinking. And he was pretty sure Stell would like that.
Him thinking differently. Or well, being creative. Something to that effect right?
He thought long and hard about it and decided- he should take her to some fun corn maze or something. Go hang out in a pumpkin patch. He thought it might be fun to go in costume as well. Just why he went to a new store, and was busy trying to find something that would work with his uniform but also be… festive? Fun? He figured he would know when he saw it. That was the game plan.
But like all plans, Max’s fell short and left him in over his head because of what happened when he tried to take the first step and naturally stepped into something, (at least it wasn’t dead this time, or other questionable substances).
He had been trying on several different costumes when the vampire one called out. Saturn had darker colors- so surely, he could pull it off. Putting it one however, eh found that nope. Whatever was happening was very much not what he wanted and he would like off the crazy magic train because this was not what he wanted or needed for a date.
Because that’s really what he wanted wasn’t it? A date with Stella? A grown woman?
Swallowing as the scene before him spoke of decayed opulence, the hunger in his gut felt unnatural, and the dry and caked blood on the stone masonry made him cringe and recoil. Whatever, where ever he was was not the dressing room, and most certainl;y not Destiny City. All in all, it was a rather placid vision, but it was unnerving none the less. When it ended, he flung it off him like a personal offense, and didn’t bother to ask about it. He didn’t look at other costumes, other options. He just left, going home to curl up on a chair and think what else he could do. Something safer, something better than dressing up like an idiot or getting sucked into crazy visions.
Max figured that flowers would be fine. Stella said she liked his company so hopefully next time, that would be true.
