DILIGENT Martin’s first responsibility has always been to his family and then his players and team before anything else, but he feels a sense of duty towards everyone. Despite his laid-back demeanor and patience, he has a strong work ethic and always gets things done or follows up.
PATIENTAs a coach and as a father, Martin seems to have an inexhaustible well of patience for explaining, repeating, and always encouraging and forgiving. 👾EARLY CHILDHOOD Martin was born in Cork, Ireland and grew up hearing about magic and eagerly looking forward to the day he’d go to Hogwarts. But his letter never came. His squibness was an absolute abomination to his grandparents, and ultimately, his parents chose to break away rather than suffer the disdain; they moved to Godric’s Hollow and built their own house there. Despite his own squib status, he was thrilled for his younger sister, Elysia, when she received her Hogwarts letter and always looked forward to her stories, particularly those about Quidditch. It wasn’t unusual for them to be exchanging letters every day for a month, then go four without a word, then picking up on a completely different topic when they met over a school break.
👾SCHOOL YEARS Martin started at a muggle elementary school once in Godric’s Hollow, and had to get used to being a little older than his peers and always a little behind. With his parents busy with work, Martin spent most of his time withdrawing into video games, waiting for the next time Elysia came back for break and brought along her friends.
When he was 18, his mother, an auror, died in the line of duty. His father was devastated by the loss and commit suicide a few months later. His parents gone, his sister still at Hogwarts, his grades at an all-time low, and his financial situation rapidly plummeting, Martin was approached by a professional team with a lucrative deal playing video games professionally. It sounded like a dream come true. He was narrowly convinced to finish high school by Jonah Chance, the potioneer who lived down the street, before accepting.
After almost 5 years of playing, the London-based team agreed to cover an undergraduate education in return for coaching the team. While not the most famous esports player, Martin's gaming alias "Sheeptier" was known for a particularly patient and positive streaming persona. Since moving out of the game house, he would Floo to London and walk the rest of the way.
👾MARRIAGE Martin had a few short-lived relationships with muggles before but always craved someone he could share the magical world with. When Celestina Hyur, one of sister's friends, suffered a particularly bad break up, he was able to offer her a place to stay. He was entranced by her mystery, familiar with her sadness, and was happy to be able to placate her paranoia. An easy friendship led to a comfortable relationship. But less than a year into their marriage, Celestina ran off, leaving their infant daughter for him to raise.
Contact was scarce, but he tried to be supportive of his young wife pursuing her own dreams: her messages asked simply for another season, another medal, just another tournament. Martin convinced himself he could be patient, picked up temporary jobs streaming, waiting tables, coding-- whatever he could do to support her financially. He got help from Celestina's stepfather and his sister raising Aidene and got used to Celestina's absence. As the wait turned to years, all excuses died out except for the occasional request for money. Hoping beyond reason for a reconciliation, he chalked these requests up as his responsibility to her. Even when that hope turned to exasperation, he only considered a divorce when even her stepfather was encouraging it.
The first few times he brought up a separation, Celestina flatly hung up and ignored the topic. After a few more unreplied emails, she replied with an invitation to talk it out in-person. At this conversation in July 2043, Celestina seemed almost repentant, painting a lovely picture of their family reunited in their own self-sustaining corner of the world—Martin was almost tempted to agree. When Elysia questioned her motives and sudden repentance though, Celestina accused Elysia of turning her family against her. Each accusation was deflected with another accusation and Celestina turned her wand against her in anger. Elysia apparated them away before anything else could happen. Not long later, to Celestina's silence, Martin was granted a divorce on the grounds of desertion.
👾GODRIC'S HOLLOW Without Celestina draining funds every few months, Martin was able to dedicate more time to remodeling his childhood home in Godric's Hollow and finally, in September 2044, he and Aidene were able to move back. Later, with Aidene gone to Hogwarts, he ended up spending more time with Orion Lane, and was glad to be able to convince Rion to finish high school just like Rion's grandfather had done for Martin years ago. Gradually, he and Della started spending more time together and with each other's kids; a few whiskey nights led to single-night stands, but their relationship was never clearly established.
Spring 2049, Martin retired from his longtime position with the esports team. He kept streaming part-time, but spent most of his newfound time taking care of Celestina's stepfather. He and Della were dancing around an official relationship--the kids had long since adopted each other-- when tragedy struck the Knapp House with Deepak's death in September. Martin kept his house open if they needed another space to grieve, and otherwise spent the fall helping to rebuild furniture.
Aspen's health took another downturn in the colder months. Just a few hours before Aidene disembarked the Hogwarts Express, Aspen passed away. Aidene went missing after the funeral, prompting Martin and Elysia to begin a desperate search. Hours later, Aidene returned with Lore, a friend of Aspen's. The rest of the break was spent adjusting to Aidene's new vampirism, although she insisted on returning to Hogwarts. Finally, at the end of August 2051, Martin and Della were married in a lovely evening ceremony. Martin moved down the street in with Della to the Old Chance Cottage, leaving the Kieran cottage to Elysia and Aidene.
His new stepson Jonah Lane got married a few months later in December 2051, and Rhea Lane-Li married her husband in December 2054. In April of 2053, Martin and Della welcomed a baby boy of their own, Aelius Cole Kieran, who was doted on by his siblings nearly a decade older.
👾POST-GAMING CAREER After his retirement from the professional esports scene in 2049, Martin continued streaming, spending other time volunteering, and nurturing his relationship with Della and his new stepchildren. He was able to dedicate more time to woodworking and other hobbies, but thought it was far too young to really retire. For a while, he picked up odd shifts at Shui Heng's breakfast place and Rion's tavern, helping out when they were short on servers.
In the summer of 2055, he overheard a conversation for camp counselors and expressed interest. Aspen Hill interviewed him on the spot and soon Martin found himself guiding the first campers of the MagiScouts on woodland hikes and showing them simple woodworking. As the MagiScouts took off, he officially retired from streaming, preferring to just play games with friends

Favorites Accessory His GSS sweater jacket. Show: Firefly, obviously. While he's not keen on confrontations, he'll always make time to listen or just keep updated, and help more if he can. He’ll get into things that his family and friends like easily enough, if only to keep them company. Once trust is broken though, he has zero tolerance for continuing to put up with things.
HONEST Martin hates lying, even about small things. He's not above just staying quiet and not saying anything if he thinks it's not his place to say anything, but if ever asked directly he'll be straightforward. Some things he understands--he can't say anything about the magical world, so some things he has to fib. But unless it's something he's promised to stay silent on, he's loathe to make things up.

Schedule
Martin usually wakes up around 7 in the morning. He usually stretches, gets breakfast ready, and spends the morning cleaning things, making a todo or something or chatting with Elysia, who is usually back from her morning run around 7.
He'll settle into game analyses sometime after-- watching replays, looking up stats, watching other games, playing through different builds himself. He'll get lunch either at home or in London, and is usually at the Game house from noon to 16:00 although days could be as early as 8:30- 18:30.
After dinner-- often at Wok this Way, he'll floo home, destresses with a game or comic if he needs to, then get back to analyses and studying the game. He streams from 19-21:00, and usually plays/ records after that.
His weekends, usually Wednesday and Saturday, are spent on woodworking projects, flooing up to Scarborough to visit Aspen or Sawan, or hanging with Elysia (Quidditch games, service projects, just chatting). He will play games these days, but is usually pretty relaxed and unplugged.

Schedule
School days Martin is generally up around 7:40- 7:45, with exactly enough time to grab breakfast and run to school. He'll sometimes be a little late, but ends up napping at school sometime anyways.
Sometimes talks to people after class or gets a snack on the way back, but is usually home around 16:00 anyways. Usually hops online for a match with online friends, takes a break for dinner and homework, and then gets back online until around 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning.
Weekends Martin is up sometime between 8 and 10:30. He'll grab breakfast, flip through the news or something, finish homework. He'll spend most of the day playing games, but will occasionally take a walk, watch a movie or just chill. Eats dinner with his parents but is usually back on the computer afterwards.
Breaks are his favorite time. Elysia is regularly up at 5:00 and will sometimes drag him up for a morning walk (usually not). Either way they'll just hang out around each other and talk about literally anything. Usually someone is doing something and the other just hangs out in the room: Elysia is obsessing over arithmancy or some school subject and he's messing with her, Martin is gaming and she's reading. Sometimes they go outside and fly on a broom or go to the Old Chance Cottage. Sometimes Della or Celestina come over.
