Quote:
It’s all over the news that a dangerous convict has escaped from the state prison. Television and radios alike warm the residents to stay indoors until authorities can locate and apprehend the criminal roaming the local neighborhoods. It just so happens to fall on a terrible evening to be stuck anywhere - the weather has taken a turn for the worse and thanks to a wayward falling branch, the power has gone out. Scratching and creaking around your doors and windows keeps you on high alert…could the nefarious individual be trying to get inside your residence?

Seren peered at the pan she had just pulled out of the oven. She had used it to bake a big brownie, with candy bits on top, for her post-tutoring session reward to her pupil. She'd just pulled it out, and was testing it... And the skewer came out clean, so it was good! She took it to the parlor she had reserved for doing tutoring, during the day, and set it on a trivet on the coffee table in the middle, before chilling out until her latest pupil arrived... Which she figured would be any minute now.

It was unfortunate it was so awful out.

Delilah would never say no to anyone inviting her anywhere, really. She loved meeting new people. She loved growing closer to those people. She hoped those people liked her, wanted to be friends with her, wanted to include her in everything in their lives. She wanted to cling to those memories and people and cultivate them because she remembered so little, had so little. There was so little left for her to grasp onto, even after several months--

Of course, it was just her tutor, and her tutor was mostly inviting her over for some sort of treat so far as she understood, but that was good enough!

She just wanted out of this rain now.

When she arrived, Delilah was in awe of how big this house was. Was her tutor fancy? All Delilah had was an apartment. Maybe there was something nice in this house. Maybe there was something she would want. Maybe she could just ... leave with something. Maybe her tutor wouldn't notice.

Cautiously, she lifted a finger to ring the doorbell.

... Probably shouldn't steal from her tutor, that would be rude ...

Hopefully, Seren was close to the door; Delilah didn't really want to be standing out here much longer.

Seren darted to the door, and popped it open, not wanting her student to be out there too long. The porch was great, but with the weather tonight, and the news about that escaped convict... Well, it was best for everyone if they were not outside and in the dark for too long. "Delilah! Come on in. Do you need a towel to dry off?"

Seren had been smart enough to have one nearby, hanging from a coat hook, just in case. This was such a shitty night, but they'd planned this the other day, before the storm had come up, and she had not expected it.

"Once you get dried, if you need to, we can go straight on to the parlor I use... We'll do a quick session, since it's so crappy out, and then treat time. I'll try to bring treats to sessions in the future... I believe in rewarding diligence... But I thought a fresh out of the oven brownie would be extra nice tonight."

Delilah all-too-eagerly ran inside when the door was opened, standing in the hallway and shivering in the feeling of it being very suddenly warmer when she was very certainly colder.

"Ah, yes, a towel!" Delilah took the towel eagerly, wrapping herself in it and letting out a contented sigh. If this was a fancy house, did they have any fancy robes? She had always wanted a fancy robe. Well, she had ever since the thought came into her head. Delilah didn't really have a sense of 'always.' She had only a sense of what had happened over the past few--

A warm out of the oven brownie? Seren really did like her!

Eagerly, she nodded, pulling the towel off almost reluctantly as she got ready to follow Seren. Her eyes were nearly sparkling, wide and amazed at the idea of fresh food made just for her. "Yeah! That sounds great."

And maybe she could get home before this weather got any worse... Though she was definitely eating so many brownies first. Maybe all of them. They were for her.

Seren blinked a little, amused by her student. The young woman was so enthusiastic about life, she had noticed, and wondered at her energy. Well, the girl did not seem to have a lot of trauma that Seren could pick up on...

Or she was hiding it under the eagerness she displayed all the time.

"Awesome. Come on, let's go." She was leading the way, and blinked, thinking for a moment that she heard someone at the door... She glanced back but saw nothing through the window, so she shrugged and continued on towards the parlor.

"Alright, so what did you want to focus on tonight, for the studies?"

The read on very little trauma might have at least been somewhat correct. Had there been trauma? Delilah didn't know. Delilah didn't know much of anything. She knew she was going to school for communications because her general worked at Argent Industries and that seemed appropriate...

Delilah thought she heard something, too, but didn't necessarily think anything of it, following eagerly. "Ah, maybe we can talk about some of this math?" Mathematics confused her. She wasn't sure why. Had she always been bad at math, or was it because she sometimes felt like she couldn't remember how counting worked? If she could barely figure out that two plus two was four, how was she supposed to do anything with alphas and sigmas and gammas and other Greek Letters?

"I don't understand what this sigma notat--"

The sudden snap made Delilah jump, and she looked around to find the answer for it ... only to realize she really couldn't see much of anything but a lightning flash in the window shortly after.

Oh.

Was this a power outage?

Well, she had never experienced a power outage before! That was pretty cool, right? Maybe? Were there still some finished brownies for her?

Seren settled in to the couch. "Math is good, I can definitely help you there tonight!" She leaned forwards to peer at what Delilah was pointing at... And then the lights went out. She jumped back, eyes huge, and stared, then sighed.

"C'mon, let's go lock the front door, and then get some candles." She used her phone to go towards the door. "We don't want anything to happen, and phone batteries could drain before this is over..."

She frowned a little, hearing noises outside the windows...

A power outage in a big old house definitely reeked of the kinds of things she read in her mystery novels. It also reeked of the kinds of things she read in her horror novels right around when someone was about to be snatched away or dragged away kicking and screaming to be murdered in the night before anyone had a chance of stopping it--

Delilah nodded, keeping her phone away despite the temptation to take it out so she could see a bit better, besides for the flashes in the windows. "I'll go back to the front door and turn the lock," offered Delilah, even though Seren was already heading that way, hoping she was being helpful. If she was helpful, Seren would keep liking her and making her brownies, right? She liked being made things. It made her feel important. It made her feel special. It made her feel relevant, like she mattered despite feeling like a newborn baby much of the time--

She scurried back in the direction of the door, freezing in place when she suddenly heard a bang against a nearby window. Was this going to be a horror movie?

That was so exciting!

... That was also terrifying. She didn't want to die yet. She still had so much to do.

And she was fairly sure whatever murderer was out there wouldn't care that she was a card-carrying member of the Negaverse...

Quickly, she locked the door, shivering when she heard the door rattle before she did. "I think it's windy!"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 27, 2018 11:07 pm

"Yeeeeeeeah it's... it's very windy. Let's go get those candles..." She headed for the kitchen, where she had stuck an emergency box. Soon, she was digging them out, along with the matches. She got a candle lit, and into a small little candle lantern she'd gotten for these situations.

There was a long moment where she could have SWORN she heard something scratching, long and slow and squeaky, on the back door's window, though she couldn't see anything out there in the pitch black of the storm going on.

She turned back to Delilah, pale enough that it was visible, even in this lighting. "Not sure we'll get much more studying done tonight. However, it's storming BAD out there, and I don't think you should go back out in this... There's a convict on the loose, I heard before you got here..."

Delilah followed after, not really wanting to stand around without anyone else. Honestly, it was especially because she didn't really know her way around this place. It was cool and huge and interesting but she also hadn't exactly been there before...

The scratching distracted her, and despite herself, she felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end. What was that? Was there a murderer? Was she going to die that night? Would Seren die that night? Would she have to solve the mystery, like in her books? That would be a new experience, for sure. There was a part of Delilah that was excited by the idea of it --

Of course, it wouldn't be a terribly interesting mystery if she was the one dead and they already knew who the murderer was. Not that it would be interesting if her tutor was the one dead either, of course. That was just rude-- There was a convict on the loose?

Then it was definitely like one of the horror novels...

"Is there?" asked Delilah, eyes reflecting a bit more nerves than she felt. "That's not good. I should probably stay here then." She located another candle, carrying it around with her much like she would have carried her phone around like a torch. There was another scratch, another banging on the window -- "Maybe we can eat some of the brownies?"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 27, 2018 11:32 pm

Seren shuddered softly, and led them to the parlor again, wanting out of the room. "Come on... We can definitely eat brownies. Best fresh and all..." She stayed close to her student, not wanting to leave her alone, or being left alone, not with the creepy sounds going on.

She also snagged a knife from the kitchen drawer... just in case. She would use it for the brownies, to cut them, of course, but... Well. Better to be safe then sorry, as they said.

She did not want to have to explain to her roommates or the school, or Nate, that she got injured or worse from a convict, and was unarmed. She did not want to die tonight, for certain sure.

Yay, they still got to eat the brownies!

Delilah was so excited someone had invited her over to their house to make things for her that the terror of the situation was, once more, forgotten. Excitedly, she followed Seren, continuing to carry around her little light so she wouldn't run into anything. She bet those brownies would be so good. They would be even better because they were friendship brownies, because someone only made things for people they were friends with, right?

-- No, this was her tutor, Delilah was being sill--

The scraping against the wall caught her attention, and Delilah jumped, nearly dropping the candle in the process. Was it really just the wind, the lightning, and the thunder, or was something else going on? Had the murderer really come and found them? Was she about to be the star of a horror story, or was she going to end up being the very first victim?

She bit her lip, walking a bit faster.

"When do you think the storm will calm?"

Seren smiled in a warm fashion at her student. The girl seemed to flip between eager and scared tonight... And Seren could not BLAME her. Tonight was turning into a ******** nightmare of a night.

The only thing worse then this would be if that clown from the other day showed up...

"I don't know, Delilah. I really don't... It could go all night. If you need, you can crash with me. It's dangerous out there and I don't want you to get hurt." She looked at the other girl with concerned and kind eyes. "It's safer here."

She got them into the room and set the lamp on the table, and cut the brownie into 8 slices. "Go on... Enjoy." She really hoped the girl liked her efforts... Her baking was her pride.

Did that mean they were having a sleepover? Did being forced to stay at someone's house because of a really bad storm outside count as a sleepover? Did hiding from a possible murderer outside because this was the perfect atmosphere for a murderer count as a sleepover?

Delilah heard another creak outside and cringed. This definitely was the perfect set up for a murderer. It felt like it was coming right out of her favorite horror novels...

Well, it was still a possible sleepover and she'd take it, even though she didn't know what that scratching was coming from--

Thoughts slammed to a halt as she smelled and saw the brownies. Brownies! Made for her! By someone else! And they smelled so good and they were all for her and she wanted them all! Perhaps too eagerly, Delilah snatched one of the brownies and nearly slammed it into her mouth, but the bite she took was reverent, and she let out something akin to a moan at just how good the brownie was. Or maybe that was just from how happy she was to have something made for her...

"This is so good," gushed Delilah, as she took another reverent bite. She could ignore the slam on the windows if she could just eat brownies made for her by someone else all night.
