Lessons were hard learned by stubborn pages. Syrtis would not have been a soldier of Mars if he let a little something like a hospitalization kill his fighting spirit, would he? He certainly didn't think so, and suited up to set out on his own again the moment he was well enough - but after he'd spent a week cussing at people in Call of Duty. Vanessa was distracted at work. She'd left Ophelia to keep an eye on him, but it was easy enough to sneak away from your warden when they were prone to cat-naps. He loved his sister but disagreed about how they would defeat the Negaverse once and for all. For as long as he'd been a page, she had railed on about how it was necessary for all of the senshi and the knights to come together; to unite as one and rid the world of Chaos forever. Syrtis suspected that all they needed was a brigade of Mars knights. And now that he knew Kairatos existed, he was dying to meet more of them. He sneaked out of the balcony of his father's apartment, lifted himself onto the roof, powered up, and picked his way across the rooftops back to the uglier part of Destiny City. This time he wore no iPod.

It was getting darker earlier, the air cooling as the seasons shifted from one to the next, and Xenotime felt rejuvenated by the change. It felt like her footing had been shaky since she'd returned to the city. Like at some point in her wide travels she'd lost her barrings had hadn't been able to properly gather them even with familiar faces and places around her. So much had changed in her life, and the things she treasured continued to slip through her fingers like water leaking from cupped hands. Maybe she could make change work for her, instead of against her. A lot of her team had scattered to the winds. Typhon had taken off again, no doubt getting into trouble along the way. Natrolite had recently returned, but his schedule was a spotty, fickle thing. Marcacite was all grown up and leading a team of her own, and with everything else on her mind...well, Xe didn't see much of her golden girl anymore. Umber, gone... But there was Ochre, loyal and devoted. A sweet, quiet shadow standing forever at her side. The general wasn't sure what she'd without him. When everything else was spinning wildly out of control he was there, a constant comfort. She'd also recently drawn two more under her wings. Both senshi, one a transfer, one newly awakened. Time would tell with them. There was room for more, and the general was out most evenings now with that in mind. A promising civilian or a appealing soldier with a lily white aura. It didn't matter who they were, only that they shone. Thus far in her search she'd come up empty. Perhaps tonight would be different. She could feel a weak aura moving in the distances. Smiling in anticipation, the fighter changed course, heading in the direction of the low level aura.

It confused Syrtis that there were not more Mars knights easily found. Where was everyone? He had learned enough at Vulcan's side to know that there must be more out there - she said she knew one pretty well herself once, even, but had become tight lipped and evasive when he'd pressed her for more information. 'Who was he? Or she? What did they look like? Do you know how I can find them?' All Vulcan could tell him was that this other Mars knight she knew once was big and strong. But, no, she didn't know where to find him. It exasperated Syrtis, who could not for the life of him understand why the Space Cauldron would waste so much time bringing back anyone who wasn't a knight of fire and blood and war. Mars really ought to lead, he thought. He needed to find Kairatos and their brothers and sisters and together they could make sure that everyone else fell in line. Syrtis was only on patrol for ten minutes before he became aware of a dark energy moving nearby. He stopped on the spot and stared into the distance. It was stronger than he was. He deliberated a moment, and then decided in favour of the fight, pulling himself up onto the nearest rooftop by his hands and careening into the dark. He was headed right for Xenotime.

This one was bold, running towards danger rather than away from it, and the general paused in her pursuits, allowing the headstrong soldier to close the rapidly shrinking gap between them until she could see the man that'd glittered like promise in her periphery of her mind. Not a senshi, but a page in gladiator chic and fiery reds and the general grinned bright enough her teeth flashed pearly in the moon light as she looked down from where she stood on the fire escape of an old brick apartment building. She was leaning forward with her arms folded across the rusted railing and her hood polling back across slender shoulders. A dainty thing, she didn't cut a threatening silhouette, but there was something there that spoke of violence. The potential for it rode the air like static in the air before a storm. "How sweet, a dutiful warrior looking to do is part." Pale fingers flicked a few stray strands of bright purple back behind the curve of her ear. "Or maybe you're just really eager to die for your cause." Few at his level were brave or stupid enough to challenge a seasoned general. "Or maybe you're looking to shed that leather loincloth in favor of something less..." Her eyes racked down from head to toes before flicking back up to his face with a wicked grin. " Relieving." He looked young, untouched and fresh as an uncirculated penny. "I can help you with that, you know. I could give you everything."

"Uuuuh..." Was she hitting on him? Syrtis lifted himself up to his full height and squared his shoulders, cocked an eyebrow at the little General who eyed him now as if he were a piece of meat she'd like to rub all over herself. She was not hard on the eyes -far from it, in fact- but he doubted he would have been attracted to her if she was lying naked on a chaise lounge. Chaos oozed off of her like a bad perfume. 'I can help you with that, you know. I could give you everything."Thanks, I'm good, though," Syrtis drawled, summoning his discuss, holding it in front of him like a shield. It was not large, but it was heavy enough to cause substantial damage - to another page, or a lieutenant. He knew that he wasn't supposed to be out without Vulcan, or Kiuchi, or Hercynia. He knew, also, that he might die and thought that it was his responsibility as a knight of Mars to put his life on the line at least once a week. He could feel how strong she was. Knew better than to underestimate her. As civilians, John Jr had outweighed and outmuscled and outpaced Vanessa for the last couple of years. With Vulcan, it was a different story. Fighting Xenotime would be like that. He pursed his lips, considering, and then fished his cellphone out of his pocket. "One sec," he said to Xenotime. Tried calling Hercynia. It started to ring.

Oh, how sweet. He didn't realize the situation he'd found himself in. Xenotime laughed at his question, a startled bark of a sound that wasn't exactly harsh on the ears but still managed to sound sharp edged. As it subsided it left her looking up at him with eyes glittering with mirth, features drawn into amused lines. But that smile, it never stopped being dangerous, pearly whites flashing in the dark. A little too wide, too excited. She watched as he tried to digest the moment, perhaps finally realizing the danger he was in, and then he was drawing a cellphone from his loin clothe and requesting she hold on a moment. With an arch of her brow she watched him dial and put the phone up to his ear, and this close she could hear it ringing. "Oh, no. I don't think so." If he was trying to call in reinforcements she certainly couldn't allow that. It was easy enough to twist, one muscled leg coming up at a swinging arch to smack the top of her foot into his hand and the phone out of his fingers. "No calling your friends. I'd prefer if they didn't crash our little party." Overwhelm him, subdue him, and summon a general-king to corrupt him. As plans went it was very simple.
