Quote: You're visiting a friend or family member in the hospital and while walking down the hall, the fluorescent lights flicker, long enough for you to notice an eerie figure standing at the end of the empty hallway. Another flicker and the shadow grows closer - it's a deranged looking person, hair unkempt and eyes sunken into their sockets. A third flicker and the being is only yards away from you now, more grotesque in appearance than ever. A fourth flicker and…the lights return to normal, the hallway just as empty as it was when you originally turned to walk down it. Was it all an illusion? Maybe you're a little extra exhausted? Whatever the case may be, walking down the hallway you can't help but notice a putrid smell stinging your nostrils until you manage to turn the corner… The good psrt about the hospital was usually that they had a cafeteria for staff anf guests to buy food. While her father was refusing to leave her mother's bedside, Jessie was willing to fetch food for the two of them; and drink. Her own thoughts of late were able to be put aside when she found out her mother was in the hospital with pnumonia again -- if only because since her youngest sister, Cemeveve Kesaragi wasn't the healthiest lady. Her health had left her hospitalized often enough Jessie was closer to her father all things considered and enoughit became a point of family visits when her sisters came from Foster Care to visit -- they weren't cut off after all -- and so Kay had visited, and Jessie was trying to coax Rhian from her room to come one day. Today, neither of her sisters were coming, and Jessie reminded herself to buy Owen a treat. While her father would happily savagely devour food right in front of the teen, Veve would be absolutely unhappy if Jessie didn't ensure he had options, Checking out, Jessie meandered back towards her mother's room, riding a large elevator to the second floor before walking towards her mother's room. The trail was familiar, but every so often flickers of power concealed a human creeping closer. And closer. And Jessie was ready to call a nurse (The sunken eyes and pale skin alone called them sick) when they disappeared, and she sighed, resuming her walk, before stopping. Something began to stink, and stink bad, like the time she let hamburger go bad on accident, and Jessie swallowed bile, making a face as she covered her mouth. "OH, LORD." And she was stuck here waiting for Owen with someone sick making the nurses doubtlessly worry. FUN TIMES.

Owen wasn't really sure about visiting someone else's mother in the hospital, let alone someone that was kind of his friend and also kind of his boss? But it didn't seem right not to, either, because quite frankly being in the hospital sucked, and any kind of diversion from that level of suckiness had to be welcome, even if it came in the form of a strange teenager you only knew through your daughter if at all. ... And, okay, maybe he was just trying to convince himself that this was a good idea, but if she was Miss Jessie's mom she had to be a pretty nice lady, right? (Jessie's dad sounded just as scary as she was, but that didn't necessarily mean he was a bad person, just... scary) It would be fine! He'd stopped at the gift shop and bought a balloon for her, a smiley face with 'Get Well' written on it, so it wasn't like he was just dropping by to stare or something, he was trying to be nice! Only... he wasn't quite sure where he needed to go. Somewhere on the second floor, wasn't it? He couldn't remember the room number off the top of his head, so maybe he should try and find a desk to ask a nurse for directions. But before he could, he was knocked off balance by a really, really nasty smell, strong enough that it made him gag as he stumbled around a corner and right into another person. Biting back a startled screech, Owen stumbled back and nearly let go of the balloon he had brought. Who was - who had - oh. Oh, it was just Jessie. "....Hi?"

"Yo." Jessie did appreciate Owen visiting. Her mother missed her little sisters, and Owen was close in age to the girls enough the woman found out she'd put him on her team and well. She'd been demanding the boy -- maybe even his mother! -- come to dinner for weeks. Well, she was sick again, so Jessie had mentioned so checking on Owen, and now the woman had a teenager coming to meet her mother who was probably going to be bombarded with pent up motherly love -- because Geneveve "Veve" Kisaragi was the sort who loved everyone. She loived Jessie's father, her aunt, and at least Rhian's father -- she didn't think about Kayla's fold man. Nobody liked him, even her mother. Still, Jessie wasn't going to warn Owen he was going to be fussed at by a sick lady-- but she smiled seeing the balloon. Somehow, she had a feeling his mom and hers would come to be good friends, and given Owen had been there during the confusing mess of her awakening... Jessie wanted to look out for him like he'd helped her. It was strange, but the woman thought of him as a little brother. A little brother joining her in the agony of styank. One hand raised to her face, covering her mouth and nose, and she eyers Owen, frowning. "Dude, think something died in the vent somehow?" There was no way to avoid some things, right?...The important areas, EGH, most, were sterile but no building was impenetrable, so... "Cause something around here smells like Dad's farts mixed with rotten meat and Dad's cooking had a s**t-baby."

"I don't think so," Owen said, making a face and pulling his shirt up as an impromptu shield against the stench. "I mean, this is a hospital. they're supposed to be clean, there's no way something would get in and die in a vent!" But, he thought to himself, making a face, there had to be some reason for that smell! "There's no... uhm. Infectious disease ward on this floor or anything, right?" He didn't think there was; it didn't seem like the kind of thing you'd put on a regular floor with everyone else, but it was a good idea to check, right? "Or maybe someone got out into the rest of the hospital from there, and really, really bad B.O. is a symptom of something?" Ugh, though, 'bad body odor' didn't begin to describe it. This smelled more like... more like something had died. "I think there are things you can get that make you smell awful. I saw it on TV once, on that health channel that's always playing medical shows? We should probably be careful and... get out of here before we get exposed to it any more." ... Really he just wanted to get away from it, it was that gross.

"Quarentine is it's own building." Jessie said, voice muffled trying to defend against the noxious stench that was pouring up, and she grimaced, eyes wateriong. "And I doubt they put anyone in here by mistake. Not anything this rank." So what was it? Jessie groaned, eyes watering as if crying as she made a face and shuddered, staggering to lead Owen away. The stench lingered, wafting after them like a sloppy grandparent kiss when they were very old and a child was being spoilt by them, the woman gagging as she moved along for the less rank areas. At the point she could at least uncover her face, she lowered her hand, sucking in air desperately. "DEAR GOD IT STANK WORSE THAN DAD'S BEANFARTS OR ASPARAGUS-LACED PISS!"

"Well whatever made it shouldn't be here," Owen complained, letting Jessie tug him away. He tried to hold his breath as much as possible as they moved, but that only worked so long and even at his best he had to breath in the acrid stench twice more before they finally reached a part of the hospital where the air was clear of the smell. "Ew, ew, ew, ugh, who do we report that kind of thing to?" He asked, gagging and trying to wave away the memory of the smell, all to no avail. "Did you see what made it before I came up? Or did it just... come out of nowhere?" Ugh. Ughhhhh he hoped it wasn't one of those smells that clung to your clothes or anything, because if if did then he really, really couldn't meet Jessie's mom now. "... I think I should go home and take a shower before I try to meet your family, miss Jessie," he said, sniffing the sleeve of his sweater experimentally. "Just in case it left any kind of gross on me."

"Room's next to us." Jessie admitted, gulping air before sniffing Owen as well, then herself, being greeted by her old friend gasoline and oil. Good, she stank of car, not death and s**t. "We'd talk to the nurse or nurse's station right now, just in case. Might be busted ventilation... Somewhere." She waved away the thought of the stench, and gagged. "At least we don't reek of a** though, so we escaped fast enough. It's juicy ones that are worse. phew." Another wave, and Jessie opened the door, nudging Owen into the room. "Now I know you're already worrying but trust me, Mom is going to go absolutely crazy for you. Let's pretend that mess didn't happen until we go." And purge the stank from her memory. Besides. HER MOM NEEDED OWEN HUGS.

"Busted ventilation does not begin to cover it," Owen complained, clutching at the string of the balloon he'd picked up and leveling Jessie with a flat look. Really. He wasn't stupid; some smells couldn't be caused by something that simple, and... well, Destiny City seemed to get kind of weird around Halloween. So while he was pretty sure it was okay and that this was nothing to really worry about, he was still willing to chalk the strange smell up as another weird thing about the time of year. "Shouldn't we stop by the nurse's station first?" He asked, trying to back away as Jessie opened the door. Just for a minute longer, until he could be sure this wasn't going to end up awkward and embarrassing and just plain... not-fun for everyone involved. But it was already too late, because while he was protesting Jessie had opened the door and nudged him inside. "Um... hi?" There was no escaping this meeting now. He was doomed.
