Robinpaw wasn't immune to the effects of the river being dried up. She saw how her Clan mates would stumble through camp, unsure of the steadiness in her paws. She saw her older kin, Sunseer, the leader, praying to SunClan day after day. She tried to stay hopeful, tried to keep a smile on her face, but it was growing more tricky to do so.
Luckily, she had help keeping her mood up. There was another apprentice in MountainClan of whom she was very fond. Not her sister, Leafpaw, or her brother, Honeypaw, but Riverpaw, a she-cat with beautiful markings: something that Robinpaw felt was her duty as her friend, to tell her every day. Sometimes they went out with their mentors, which wasn't uncommon, because Duskwing, Robinpaw's mentor, and Dawnbreak, Riverpaw's, were sisters. Other times, Robinpaw would try to entice Riverpaw to sneak out on their own.
Today was one such occasion.
She had padded into the apprentice's den to find her friend. "Pssst." She hissed quietly. "Riverpaw? Are you in there? C'mon out, I got a fun idea!"

Riverpaw dozed lightly in the apprentice's den even though the sun was climbing high in the sky. As the prey continued to decline in the territory, Riverpaw noticed her energy continuing to decline as well. The young she-cat rested often to make sure she stored up enough energy to do what she had decided was her important mission; to be the best hunter so she could help provide for the clan. She practiced every chance she got and would often beg DawnBreak to take her out in the territory to practice hunting different types of prey.
Despite her all her training and determination to feed the clan, Riverpaw was still a young cat and needed a distraction from the famine every now and again. That's when she would turn to Robinpaw and her siblings. After losing her own siblings and parents, River became close friends with the other orphaned kits but she was closest to Robinpaw. The pale calico always seemed to brighten Rivers mood.
Dark grey ears twitched as they caught the familiar voice of Robinpaw. As she came to her senses, Riverpaw opened her eyes slightly trying to find the source of the voice. It took only a few seconds to find the familiar soft toned pelt of her friend. Though River loved the light colors of Robinpaw's pelt, she always found herself mesmerized by the she-cat's different colored eyes; such vastly different colors but both so bright and fitting for her personality.
She gave her head a small shake to collect her thoughts. A fun idea with Robinpaw? This was something definitely worth spending her energy on.
With a small yawn, Riverpaw stretched and stood up. She quietly padded over to her friend. "Oh?" She said with interest, her tail flicking slightly in excitment. "What sort of fun are we getting into today?"

Robinpaw's oddly colored eyes glimmered happily when Riverpaw got up and replied. Touching her nose to Riverpaw's briefly in greeting, she then beckoned with her tail for the other apprentice to follow out of the den. When they were a little ways away from other cats, Robinpaw turned around to face Riverpaw with a broad grin.
"Let's go hunting! Let's show the Clan that we deserve to be made warriors right now and bring back something amazing!" She didn't really want to be made into a warrior, actually, not when Duskwing had just started to show her about tree-walking, but the notion of having the option of being a warrior, or at least helping her Clanmates in a trying time, was something she wanted to pursue.
"Even if we don't catch something, we could look for herbs that Littlepaw might have a use for." Never mind that Robinpaw didn't know the first thing about herbs, but she figured they all smelled funny, so she'd know them by smell or taste (they were bitter and icky) if she came across them in MountainClan territory. "Whaddya say?" She prompted Riverpaw, her tone soft, but excited.

Riverpaw padded softly behind Robinpaw, following her friend out of the apprentice den and a little ways from the main camp. Robinpaw's grin was contagious and River found herself grinning back before she even knew what the other apprentice was planning.
Hunting? By themselves? Without their mentors? For a moment, Riverpaw's grin disappeared. What if something went wrong? What if one of them, or both of them got hurt? The thoughts quickly left her head. Isn't that what she was training for, going off on her own into the wild to hunt? Besides, she was confident in her ability to face anything she was up against and Robinpaw was a capable young cat. Most of the big predators had moved on anyway so they wouldn't have anything to worry about. Riverpaw's smile slowly returned, wider than before.
"What do I say?" Riverpaw's tail twitched behind her, giving away her excitment. "You said the magic word, hunting. I'm in, you know I'm in." In all honesty, River really hoped that they would catch something, no matter how small. Mostly because she wanted to practice what she had learned from Dawnbreak but partly because she knew next to nothing about collecting herbs that Littlepaw might be able to use.

Robinpaw's face lit up when Riverpaw agreed to go with her and she purred her reply. "Great! C'mon, let's go now, while no one's looking!" Going out the camp entrance wasn't an option: they'd get caught too easily. So, beckoning Riverpaw with her tail, she led her into the dirtplace and then beyond. Once outside the camp, Robinpaw grinned as she turned to her friend. "Let's go to the Great Birch Tree! There's bound to be something out there, right?" She asked, bouncing as much as she could without making too much of a racket.Natitsuri Following the rules for hunting, do you want to make your roll in your next post on whether they find something and I can do it in my post after that?

"Good idea." Riverpaw replied glancing around the camp to see if any other cat might be watching. As their luck would have it, no one seemed to be looking their way. Not wanting to waste time and get caught, Riverpaw quickly and quietly followed her pale pelted friend into and out of the dirtplace. The young grey spotted she-cat looked over her shoulder one last time once they were outside of camp to make sure they weren't followed.
"I don't know." Riverpaw said truthfully, with the food being so scarce she wasn't sure there was prey anywhere anymore. "But if there is, we'll find it and bring it back to show off." Even with the lack of prey and empty belly, her enthusiasm for the hunt was as strong as ever. Along side her friend Robinpaw, River set off towards the Great Birch Tree, all senses on high alert.
She could see it in her minds eye, Dawnbreak and Duskwing beaming at the two of them proudly and congratulating them on their kill. Or Littlepaw humbling thanking them for the herbs and admiring their gathering skills. Yeah, this was going to be great. What could go wrong?

Robinpaw nodded along to what her friend had to say about finding something out there, if there was anything, and bringing it back. "Right you are, Riverpaw!" She mewed. "And we're bound to find something! I mean, we are the best." She rubbed her shoulder against Riverpaw's. "Though you'll always be the prettiest in the Clan." She added with a smile. "You look as pretty as... as moonlight on the mountain!" She said decisively.
It didn't occur to Robinpaw that she might have to be quiet in order to hunt. She enjoyed Riverpaw's company so much that she was more than happy to unknowingly scare away any prey in the area if it meant talking to her fellow she-cat.Natitsuri We can roll again later for the herb finding. :3

A small laugh escaped Riverpaw as her pale pelted companion mentioned them being the best hunters. It was true though that River did think of them as being the best hunters of all the other apprentice's. With herself learning to hunt from Dawnbreak and Robinpaw learning to tree walk from Duskwing, they were going to feed the whole clan when they became warriors. Her laugh turned to a purr as the two rubbed shoulders. It was nice to be out of camp with Robinpaw. Riverpaw's laugh returned as Robinpaw once again mentioned how pretty she was. By River's memory, Robinpaw had complemented her pelt just about every day the two had been friends.
"I agree that we are the best, at least as far as apprentice's go but I'm not so sure about me being the prettiest in the Clan though." Riverpaw purred at her friend. "I do have you to compete with!" From Riverpaw's perspective, she did have Robinpaw to compete with.
"With eyes like sunlight and treetops in summer, a pelt like a soft breeze. All the toms will be fighting for your attention one day." A small chirp escaped her as Riverpaw playfully jumped in front of her friend and rolled over on the ground. With her belly up she playfully pawed the air near Robinpaw's face. Though hunting was her life's purpose, for a moment she had forgotten all about it and was only focused on playing with her pale pelted friend.

Robinpaw had been in the middle of rolling her eyes when Riverpaw mewed that she would have to compete with her for the prettiest in the Clan. "You're teasing me, Riverpaw. A tom would have too much trouble deciding which eye to look instead of trying to get to know me better." She mewed, swishing her tail nonchalantly. "Anyway, I thi-Woah!" She stopped abruptly when Riverpaw jumped in front of her and then promptly rolled over. With a purr of amusement, Robinpaw leaned over her friend and touched her nose to the she-cat's. As she pulled back, her eyes glimmered. "Hey, wanna try to race to the Owl Tree or something?" She asked with a grin. "Betcha can't beat me!"

As Robinpaw leaned in to touch noses, Riverpaw lightly batted at her in a playful fashion. Even with her waning energy, it was easy to be playful and have fun around Robinpaw. Riverpaw rolled back onto her feet as Robinpaw issued her challenge. For a very brief moment, Riverpaw debated if a race was really the best idea. The two of them really shouldn't be wasting so much energy but a race sounded like a lot of fun to Riverpaw and to have fun was the only way to stay sane with death all around them. " Ha! You're on!" Riverpaw said with an entusiastic laugh. " First one to touch the Owl Tree wins!" With the rules set, Riverpaw shot off in the direction of what she thought was the way to giant tree.

Robinpaw laughed in delight as her friend bolted off and she followed her. Feeling a little out of breath on the ground, Robinpaw paused, looked around and then leaped at the closest tree she saw. Scrambling up it, she wobbled out onto a steady branch. She hadn't spent much time tree-walking without her mentor, but if she could show off to Riverpaw and be the first one to touch the Owl Tree? That would be so cool!
Cautiously at first, she made her way over outstretched branches. Eventually picking up the pace, Robinpaw purred in excitement as she leaped from one branch to another, feeling as light and daring as a squirrel!Natitsuri Sorry for the long delay! I'm still interested in this RP if you are!
