Event Prompt 1 of ??? You come home one afternoon to find a package waiting for you in the mailbox. It’s a small parcel with only the image of a smiling, friendly jack-o-lantern where a sender’s address should be. When you open the package, a porcelain pumpkin bearing the same smile as the sender’s image falls into your palm. The only other thing that you can find in the package is a small business card with the name Perniciousa inscribed in gold lettering. When you google the name, nothing comes up but you’re pretty sure you recall seeing a new store pop up with that name on the outskirts of the shopping district of Destiny City. It must be some sort of advertisement for the holiday season - neat! The store doesn't look quite open yet but hopefully it will be in time for the holiday!

They'd started receiving a bit more spam mail than usual since signing up for a registry for their wedding-- not that they'd decided on a date, or settled really anything, but it was never too soon to start figuring out what kind of things one might want someone else to buy them. He hadn't added much to the only account they'd set up together, there really wasn't a good way to add on new-release video games, but he knew that Lucien had scanned a thing or two here and there while they were out.

That said, he didn't think much when it came to the package that had arrived in their mailbox. The smiling pumpkin label with a lack of return address was odd, but it was also considerably less odd than anything that happened as a part of their normal, average, every day powered life. It came baring Luc's name on it so he set it on the counter along with the rest of the other man's mail, humming softly as he went down the hall to change after his run.

Luc had been out getting things to make for lunch, he'd decided to run to the store on the corner for a couple things to make fresh chicken salads for them since Arin had been out running and he knew the other man could use a bit more than just veggies after the workout. He slipped in the door with a couple bags and smiled when he saw Arin's shoes in the door.

Perfect timing if the sound of the shower was any indication. It meant he had some time to throw things together before his lover, fiance, was out and dressed.

The small pile of mail caught his eye though as he was chopping up vegetables and after tossing everything together and putting leftover chicken in the microwave to warm up he picked up the package with his name on it. He hadn't ordered anything but somehow far too many companies seemed to know they were getting married so it wasn't that strange.

He pulled the box open to find a small ceramic pumpkin inside. Frowning he pulled it out, setting it on the counter after checking to make sure it wasn't some battery powered thing. He eyed it with a bit of suspicion as the microwave dinged. Holidays and strange appearing decorations never boded well.

When he returned to the kitchen it was with a pair of lounge pants resting on his hips, muscle tank clinging to his skin and a towel in hand fluffing his hair dry. He paused just shy of the bar, brow furrowing as his eyes settled on the pumpkin, mistrusting it for no reason other than because it existed.

Arin didn't hate Halloween. As a matter of fact, it was one of the holidays that he enjoyed-- had enjoyed as a child, on into his teenage years, at least. Mischief Night was a fun bit about it; causing a little chaos, toilet papering people's houses, relocating lawn gnomes. It would have been a lot more fun were his birthday not on November 1st; often forgotten in favor of Halloween Party hangovers on behalf of his family.

He'd never decorated for it on his own, although he did own a costume piece or two. He supposed he should have expected decorations, especially after the ones they'd slowly acquired for Christmas the year prior. "So did you pick this one out, or do you think it's a subtle hint from Cordy?" He picked up the pumpkin, turning it over lightly to see if he could find a manufacturer listed anywhere.

Nothing... Of course not...

"Was there anything in the box with it? Receipt? Card? Any kind of ransom note from the Great Pumpkin itself?"

"No, nothing was in the box but the pumpkin." He shook his head slightly, looking up from where he was chopping up some extra veggies for their salads and tossing them into a large bowl with everything else. "I trust it about as far as I can throw it but ... I have a feeling throwing it would be a bad idea."

It reminded him of the snowglobes from all those years ago and he had a feeling breaking those would have been a terrible idea too. "Maybe Cordy did send it but I'd think she'd have sent a text along with it or there'd have been something in the box. She hasn't really said anything about us not having Halloween decorations."

Not like she'd done with Christmas anyway.

"I dont know why it just had my name on it either. If it was something from one of the companies trying to get me to put their stuff on our registry I'd think it would have both our names, right?"

Arin made his way around the bar, snagging the box from where it sat on the floor next to the trash can. He felt around in it for a moment, checking under the flaps and turning it upside down. Only when he was about to give up did a single business card flutter out from the bottom of the box, sauntering vaguely downwards to the floor.

He dropped the box, stopping down to scoop up the card, brow furrowing as his eyes drifted over the text. "Perniciousa," he read the word out, turning the card over in his hand as if that would somehow give up any additional information. "Does that sound like the name of a shop you signed up to get anything from?"

He set the pumpkin back down on the counter before walking over to Arin and holding his hand out for the card. "No ... I mean I signed up for a few places but most of them were the bigger stores. I don't remember hearing of that one before." He frowned slightly as he tried to remember the name and if he'd heard it somewhere. "Lysander is probably better with names, maybe he's heard of it?"

There was always the chance someone else had put his name in something. Their close friends knew they were getting married so they could have put their name on some list.

"Maybe one of our friends put my name somewhere?"

It could have been something that Lysander sent; a list he'd had them added on to or something. Lysander's birthday was on Halloween, so maybe the pumpkin was part of an invitation or something - but then why send one only to Luc?

Arin didn't enjoy being suspicious over something as simple as a ceramic pumpkin, but he was. Too many strange things had happened the last time he and Luc were sharing a living space and odd trinkets had shown up on or around a holiday.

He shook his head, holding the card out to Luc. "Maybe we should just.... Forget about it. I guess it's kind of cute. It's probably nothing..."

"We don't have to keep it. I mean it's kinda cute and all but if it's going to bother you then we can get rid of it." Or they could stuff it in the back of a closet somewhere." Then they wouldn't have to worry about it until after they moved and it could find it's way into a donation box.

"Either way ... lets just forget about it for now and have lunch?" He leaned up to brush a kiss against Arin's cheek, setting the card down on the counter. "You're usually pretty hungry after a run and I have everything mostly together now."
