With a loud gasp, the bluette startled awake from her sleep... dream, nightmare, whatever it was in any case. Her heart was pounding. The feeling of something – fear – lodged deep within her throat. A feelng of helplessness she hadn't felt in a rather significant amount of time. What was it? What had caused her to wake up in such a panic?
It couldn't have been the overstuffed couch... or anything in the environs themselves. Her apartment was the epitome of comfort. Even when she didn't often stay for too long, now that she had finished her BS and was in control of her family's companies and assets. What was it that had awakened her?
An alarm tone rang out from the television. An alert. Something had happened. Something big. She watched the television. Wanting to know. Needing to know. Needing to know if it had something to do with her normal civilian life, or even if it had something to do with her other life. Her alter ego. Empressite.
'We'd like to caution the public that 38 year old Aleksander Davincski, known and convicted murderer has managed to escape from the maximum security, Destiny City Prison. He is to be considered armed and extremely dangerous. All citizens should be on alert. If you see him, please call Destiny City Police...'
At this, her world started to go black, and her breath stuck in her throat. This couldn't be real. This wasn't happening... Thirteen years. It had been thirteen years since that night. Since her world came crashing down around her. Since she had lost everything. Since he had taken her grandparents from her, and very nearly her life.
One delicate hand traced the silvery scar that ran along her neck. She could still feel the tearing, the ripping as the knife sliced through her skin, and the warmth of the blood as it trickled down. She never should have survived, but she did. And she never never expected to have to hear that name ever again. Or see that face. He was supposed to be imprisoned for life. It should have ended then.
This was a nightmare. It couldn't be real. It just couldn't be happening. Not to her.
'Well, well, well. Isn't this a nice surprise.' Another hand ghosted over hers along the scar. 'Lovely little Lia. It is so wonderful to see you again.'
