Quote: Event Prompt 1 of ??? You come home one afternoon to find a package waiting for you in the mailbox. It’s a small parcel with only the image of a smiling, friendly jack-o-lantern where a sender’s address should be. When you open the package, a porcelain pumpkin bearing the same smile as the sender’s image falls into your palm. The only other thing that you can find in the package is a small business card with the name Perniciousa inscribed in gold lettering. When you google the name, nothing comes up but you’re pretty sure you recall seeing a new store pop up with that name on the outskirts of the shopping district of Destiny City. It must be some sort of advertisement for the holiday season - neat! The store doesn't look quite open yet but hopefully it will be in time for the holiday! Anyone who makes use of this prompt is allowed to save the little porcelain pumpkin for display! Besides, who knows what secrets it may hold! Humming to himself, Akio glanced over at the little porcelain pumpkin sitting on his breakfast bar, mimicking the expression the tiny gourd made in his direction. He'd received it randomly in some sort of mass-mail distribution (everyone's mailbox in the apartment complex seemed to have one) and while he never felt the need to decorate for this particular holiday, the little orange bauble had found its home on his countertop somehow, looking bright and as festive as ever while Akio continued buzzing around in the kitchen, preparing for the upcoming date night.
With the both of them now holding jobs (look at them, adulting like real adults!) he and Aurora had ensured early on that no matter what, they were going to take time out of their schedule to spend with one another. Thursday nights had become the token date night of the week, both individuals keeping that afternoon open, banning work or social affairs from conflicting with their special time meant for one another.
Tonight, it was his turn to pick where they were going and, knowing her preference when it came to saving money, opted to cook a special dinner of meatless lasagna (among other veggie-friendly sides) for a lovely evening of food, conversation and, if he played his cards right, couch snuggles for the remaining hours of the date.
Pausing in his culinary adventure, he pulled out his phone to shoot the young woman a quick text, despite knowing she was already on her way to his apartment.
[To Dragon Princess: Have I told you how beautiful you are today?]

She could see his apartment complex in front of her, still at least five minutes from where she was currently at, when her phone buzzed in her pocket.
The text received a roll of eyes, Rory hiding her grin and the flush of her cheeks beneath the scarf wrapped around her face.
[To Fairytale Prince: Dummy, you haven't even seen me today.] She shot back, the phone pocketed and half forgotten about as she crossed the parking lot to reach the stairs that would lead to her boyfriend's place. Thursdays were date night, which meant that she put a little extra into her appearance, wearing light eyeliner and making sure that her braid or curls were nice enough.
She wore a nicer dress too, stockings and cardigan swallowed by her winter coat. The temperature hadn't dropped that much, but Rory was prone to being cold easily and she'd rather peel off layers than shiver the entire way there.
Once at his door, she knocked.

And once he heard the knock, he was quick to abandon his oven mitts to the counter top and hurry his way to the door, twisting the knob open and pulling it back with a flurry. His arms were at the ready to pull her inside, Akio, dramatic as ever, whisking his smaller girlfriend into his arms for a half spin and a kiss while his foot expertly closed the door behind them.
"I've missed you, beautiful."
It hadn't been three days since they'd seen each other last but he couldn't help remind this beautiful treasure of how much he cherished her.
"You ready to eat?"
Arms were reluctant to release her but the garlic bread was at risk of burning otherwise, so the tall boy excused himself from her presence and hurried back towards the kitchen portion of his apartment, reapplying his oven mitts before reaching into the stove.

Rory couldn't help but laugh as he spun and kissed her, sinking back down on her heels when he pulled away. "You saw me just the other day," she protested, rolling her eyes affectionately at her boyfriend.
Loose hair was tucked behind her ear and she carefully tugged her boots off, then her coat, before padding over to join him in the kitchen. She tried to hide her smile, biting down on her lip as she watched him and leaned against the counter.
"Dinner sounds nice," she agreed, before something caught her eye.
She reached for the pumpkin.
"Akio," she said quietly, furrowing her brow at the object. "What's this?"

Bread was (almost) expertly tossed from the pan to its designated plate, the lasagna still cooling off in its pan atop the stove. Salad had already been mixed (though he'd give the credit to the premixed package it came in) and...well. That was it, he was pretty sure!
At her question, his head turned and glanced in the young woman's direction. Slender fingers were tracing around the impish little smile on the pumpkin and he offered an almost equally mischievous one.
“You like it? Someone left them in everyone's mailboxes downstairs. He's kinda cute.”
Akio only stored Christmas decor in his limited closet space but he figured there was enough room to squeeze a small pumpkin somewhere in on one of the shelves.
“You wanna put him on the table, make him one of the decorations?”
Gloves shifted to pick up the lasagna, the young man now headed towards the table in question, a pot holder waiting to cushion the warm pan.

Her head tilted slightly, hair falling loose and across her face when she examined the pumpkin more closely. "Yeah, it's kinda cute," Rory agreed, jade eyes flicking up at him contemplatively before she cradled the trinket in her hand and carried him to the table.
He was set in the center and she moved to gather the salad bowl and bread plate to carry to the table. She stayed standing for a minute, almost as if she was lost in thought before she crossed the space so she could stand closer to her boyfriend.
Patiently, she waited for him to put the very hot plate down before she tugged at the hem of his shirt, clearly wanting some attention. "I love you," she told him, in a soft kind of way.

He noticed her sudden, almost vacant expression as he joined her in decorating the table with their homemade (and hopefully edible) dinner, the pumpkin now a lonely, solitary centerpiece. Eyebrows arched curiously but he didn't say anything, soon finding himself caught off guard by the insistent, almost needy tug on his clothing and the quiet words that followed.
Instead of twirling her off her feet for a second time, he was far more tender when it came to collecting the small girl and drawing her up into his lap as he took a seat in the nearby chair. Food was ignored, his attention now entirely on the woman he couldn't take his eyes off of.
"Well that is certainly a good thing, Miss Willows," he teased lightly, pressing a chaste kiss on the very tip of her nose. While one hand held her waist for support, idle fingers on his other hand moved up to play with the ends of her soft hair. "Because I very much love you too."
And, with that, he leaned in to steal a proper kiss.

Rory was able to fit easily in her boyfriend's lap when he'd scooped her up. It was a benefit of being so petite and she closed her eyes when he kissed her nose, hands grabbing fistfuls of his shirt when she leaned forward like she was suddenly very, very weary.
"You're such a ham Mister Yoshida," she sighed, but playfulness was rampant in her voice, even with the way her lips twisted up in a smile and she leaned into his proper kiss. Rory knew that she was absolutely spoiled by the prince that was her boyfriend and she couldn't have been more grateful for him.
When they separated, Rory leaned forward and rested her forehead against his shoulder, breathing in the scent of him and being comforted by his presence.
"Can I stay over?" She asked suddenly, pulling back to look at him. She should have cleared it with her pops, but she was an adult and if she wanted to sleep over with her boyfriend, she was going to.

"Of course you can."
His answer might have been a little too quick in response but the excitement was evident in his tone. Getting to spend even more time with his favorite person was the best treat he could ever ask for and Akio would postpone practically any other obligation if it meant seeing his Aurora.
Kissing the top of her head, soft hair brushing against his mouth, he added softly, "I'd like that a lot, actually."
They sat there for a few minutes, snuggled up together as he pulled her back against himself, resting his head on top of hers as fingers idly played against hers. It was a peaceful moment, serene even. Akio found himself wanting it to stretch on for hours but he knew better, as did the food that was quickly growing colder every minute they prolonged their cuddling.
"I guess we should eat at some point, hm?"

With everything going on in her life Rory was extraordinarily grateful for Akio's stability. She appreciated the simpleness of their relationship, how he didn't seem to mind that she was feeling a little needy and had just pulled her into his lap and held her. It didn't matter that they should have been eating, she was feeling vulnerable and he was immediate reaction was to pay attention to her.
She was so, so lucky and she loved him for it.
When Akio brought up dinner, she reluctantly tried to slide out of his lap so she could take her own seat and eat the food that her boyfriend had spend time preparing specifically for her.
"Dinner and then cuddles and a movie? But not Moana," she teased.

Lips curled up into a smirk as he watched her. "No Moana, then."
After giving her time to settle into her seat, he finally nudged his own chair forward and allowed his hands to begin distributing the various dishes onto his plate. Salad went into a bowl beside the large plate, the lasagna and bread tucked beside each other at the center of the dinnerware. Brown eyes glanced up at the lonely pumpkin centerpiece, sparking an idea.
"Maybe a Halloween movie? Tis the season, after all."
Fork and knife dug into the lasagna, making precise, even slices in the food.
"But not a scary one," came a quick amendment to the suggestion, the young man popping the first piece of food into his mouth, thoughtfully chewing and swallowing before continuing, "I'm sure you don't want to spend the rest of the evening comforting your twenty-four year old boyfriend after he gets spooked by a monster movie."

Her plate of food was considerably smaller than her boyfriend's. Rory's portions were almost meager seeming if someone had never seen her eat, but it was likely just enough or maybe even a little too much for her. Her fork poked about her salad before it speared a cucumber and she popped it into her mouth and chewed thoughtfully.
"Definitely not scary. I don't like scary movies." But Akio knew that.
"Maybe something with witches." She got another forkful of salad ready. "Halloweentown is usually a good choice?" She liked that movie and all sequels.

The bread was torn and a fragment was slipped between his lips, teeth slowly taking their time chewing as he mulled over her suggestion. Akio didn't have any preference as far as holiday movies went - Halloween was still relatively new to him, having only been around it for the few years he'd been living in the United States.
"Don't know that one, you'll have to introduce me to it."
Bread, then salad, then a little more lasagna made its way into his mouth before he spoke again, allowing himself a minute or two to come up with a somewhat clever line.
"Any curses I should be prepared for?" His fork twirled itself, making nonsensical patterns in the air as he offered her a sly grin. "I'm a fan of the ones that take kisses to cure. Then again, I'm just a fan of your kisses in general."

Once her salad had been mostly eaten, Rory turned her attention to the lasagna. It was carefully divided into bite size pieces by her fork and she popped one into her mouth, chewing thoughtfully.
"It's got a few sequels, the fourth one is...eh, because they changed the actress, but the other three are great," Rory explained, thinking about how she'd watch those movies with her dad because Halloween was one of the days that he'd always be home for.
"Dummy," she huffed with utter affection. "These are about family not romance." A few more bites were picked at before she abandoned her plate to return to his side.
"And if you want a kiss, all you have to do is ask."

"About family, huh?"
His chewing grew more thoughtful, as if Akio was mulling over something to himself. He was normally fairly vocal with all of his thoughts but on occasion, he had a moment where he'd keep to himself. Brown eyes drifted off to gaze at nothing in particular, the last bite of food he'd managed to eat quickly washed away by his drink before he spoke again, much quieter.
"Y'know...you're the closest thing I have to family here."
The smile on his face had somehow grown a little sad and it was clear that the young man had been thinking about his family back at home. It had been close to nine months since he'd last visited them, with no plans in the future made for a return trip.
Napkin dropped onto the plate and chair pushed back, he attempted to shake off the doldrums and gave her cheek a quick peck.
"I think I'm about ready for that movie now, what do you say?"
