Class Schedules & Finding the Time

How to approach learning a new skill:

Deconstruct:
1. Break it down into measurable parts and deciding exactly what you want to accomplish. For example, "I want to become great at drawing heads."
2. Who's good at this who shouldn't be? This would be someone with no artistic background or talent that has become highly skilled in creating art. And how did they train to get there?

Selection:
What are the 20% that will get you the 80%? What is the bare minimum that will allow you to achieve your goal?

For example, the most important thing about the Loomis book is the method it teaches us how to draw the head and place the facial features. If you're learning how to draw noses and ears from another mentor (like I'm learning from Proko), you don't have to copy them from the book.

With that said, during our life-long artistic journey, we will probably come back to these books and find new value in repeating the book and/or doing the exercises that we skipped previously.

For now, it's alright to keep things simple so that we progress quickly.

Sequencing:
Now we put everything in a logical procession. Most of that has already been taken care of, but let's take it up a level.

Physically: you need to have enough energy and brain energy, and you need to practice every day or as often as possible.
Emotionally: you need to feel motivated and be patient with yourself and while you're creating a piece.

What daily habits will set you up for success?

Stakes:
Create rewards and consequences. Get an accountability partner. Create an art diary in the art diary subforum, set your goals, and let us remind you and keep you accountable to achieving your dreams.
