Fui Fui was sitting off to the side on a small outcropping of rocks, watching and waiting as her mother went about chatting with a lady that owned an inn in the area. It was where the two of them were going to be staying for the next few days while her mother sang for the customers. It seemed at the moment that it was just sort of her mother finishing up the negotiations or so she'd told Fui Fui.

It was a boring sort of venture and as such Fui Fui had excused herself to do... well, anything else but listen to the grown ups talk about business stuff. Instead she'd found a nice perch where she could watch everyone around her, get a good feel for the place they were staying, and if she was lucky she'd find someone interesting to play with. She wondered if there would be anymore people around like Liloa. So far she was the only one like her that she'd seen save Liloa's family.

After a few moments of watching she set to quietly singing to herself. Since she was alone she might as well get a bit of practice in or she'd never even hope to be as good as her mother one day.

Pello was wandering about in the bright sun, still basking in the fact he was permitted to go outside. Sure, the great storms happened so long ago, but that didn't mean he forgot about them so easily. No, he appreciated his freedom so much more so now that he was away from the confines of his home. He couldn't believe how long it took, and the changes that greeted him once the storms passed. In fact, he still was trying to discover the new paths and currents in his home, let alone the swelling rivers that now came from the lands above.

As he filled another day with his wandering, he took note of the colorful people in this part of the reef. He was close to the inns, where many of the northern travelers began to stay as they started journeying further south. He assumed it would happen immediately, but the swell of river and the few swamp folk only just began a few months after the sun came out. It finally was exciting to see who they were, what they looked like, and why they all were so boring in color.

His thoughts faded as he heard singing, soft and close. Stilling a moment, he swerved around to look at the inn, eyes narrowing as he realized the person singing wasn't in plain sight. It was only after he looked away, upward almost, that he caught sight of pale yellow legs, flashing like sunlight in the sea. It seemed he had discovered the source of the singing, and quickly he darted forward to get a better place to listen in.

Fui Fui let her light orange eyes sink close, hands clasped against her chest, singing along with one of her mother's favorite songs. It was the one that she tended to use as her finale to her shows. Fui Fui swayed from side to side as she went along with the song, seemingly really getting into it. It was a fun song so she didn't even really consider the fact that she was singing out in the open.

Once the song was done she gave a little sigh of relief, glancing toward where her mother was located. Seemed as though she was still chatting with the innkeeper. Seemed as though she was still busy... so maybe she should start up another song? Or should she do a bit of exploring? To be honest she wasn't sure which of them she wanted to do. Especially given that she often got lost when she tried to explore on her own.

Kicking her feet a bit Fui Fui set to toying with a lock of her hair as she tried to decide on the next song she wanted to practice at.

Pello grinned as he listed to Fui Fui sing, really liking how her voice sounded. A lot of reef kids liked to sing, but she seemed to be skilled beyond the fun little rhymes most said while they played in the surf. There was something interesting about it, and boy did she sound good at what she did. Good enough that when she was done, he swam closer and decided to introduce himself and his presence.

"Wow!" He echoed his thoughts as he darted into her line of sight, "You're really good at singing!"

His smile was bright and friendly, showing off boy-ish dimples and freckles and not an ounce of shyness or shame. That just wasn't him, he could make friends with a Kaimonio, "Do you sing all the time? You must, since you have such a great voice!"

Fui Fui gave a squeak of surprise, eyes going wide, starring at the boy in front of her. It wasn't so much that she was embarrassed at being caught singing so much as she was startled. Lifting her hands to rest them over her thudding heart. Phew, that was an effective way to get one's blood pumping she thought to herself before she said, " Thank you very much! That is very kind of you to say."

As her heart beat came under control she clapped her hands together and said, "I do sing a lot, yes. Practicing so I can attempt to be as good as my mother one day." She explained this in a happy manner before leaning in a bit closer to the boy in front of her.

"Wow! You're very bright, aren't you? Very cute!" So many shades of red! Not to mention his amazing hair style! There was so much to like about this newcomer.

Pello smiled larger, if it was even possible, at her gratitude and nodded quickly as if to say it was nothing at all. As he watched her calm down, he patiently listened to her explain what she was doing, and let out a bit of an expressive sigh.

"Oh I see, so you want to be a singer!"

He was cut off as she noted his coloring and he laughed at that, "Yeah, I seem to be much of the same color, unlike most around here. I got the best side of both of my parents, I guess, because I look like a life-size coral!" He studied her as he said it, "You have nice coloring, it pops!" The colors of purple and yellow seemed to compete with each other in a good way, and he loved how it stood out against her skin.

Fui Fui couldn't help but to gvie a little giggle as the boy described himself as being a 'life sized coral' which actually worked really well as a way of describing him. She'd even seen corals that were a bit like him she realized, something that made the boy seem even more interesting to him, "I bet you're the best at hide and seek among the corals, huh?" Especially if he could find some of the red ones to lie in way within.

Giving a happy sound Fui Fui said, "Thank you very much! That is very sweet of you to say." Lifting a hand to run her fingers through a lock of her purple hair she said, "I get my hair from my mother!"

As much as Fui Fui loved both of her parents dearly she was a bit of a momma's girl, hence her delight at sharing features such as her hair with her mother.

Pello touched his finger to his chin in thought, before shrugging, "I haven't tried, but I'm not so sure. Havent found a big enough patch of coral that's red like me. I'm sure I'd stand out!" He laughed at that, shaking his head at the thought and letting it sit for a moment before letting it pass.

"It's very pretty hair..." He added, realizing this is the second time the girl spoke about her mother. She must really love her mother, and he glanced about quickly to see if he could spot a mother who had the same kind of hair. As he turned back, he finally touched his chest and exclaimed, "I'm Pello, my parents are couriers between the reefs and the sea. It's nice to meet you!"

"Oh, yes... that would be the tough part, huh?" The reefs seemed to enjoy growing in rainbows of colors. Finding an area that had enough of a single color to hide in might be a bit of a challenge... but if he could find it she bet nobody would ever find him.

As she took in the manner in which the boy was looking around she lifted a hand and motioned to where he mother was at the moment, "She's making deals with the inn keeper. She's going to sing there for a while in exchange for 'room and board'." She explained with a smile, wondering if she'd be able to sing a song with her. From time to time she was allowed to do so, though only when it came to songs that Fui Fui knew by heart.

"It's very nice to meet you Pello! My name is Fui Fui! My mother is an entertainer, my father is a chef! He's working in different city though."

Pello was surprised that people would sing to have a place to stay, but as he thought about it, it started to make sense. It was like trading goods, and sometimes his parents would request lodging at places they were making deliveries thanks to the length of the trip. So it would make sense that if she sang, she would also get a room. Mostly because patrons would come to hear the pretty singing of the mother (and maybe the daughter). After all, that's why he was here.

Nodding, he showed he understood, before grinning "Fui Fui, that should be easy to remember!" Repeating the name twice meant he could find an easier way to get it to stick, and he didn't need to make a nick-name like his other friends because the name was already so short.

"A chef?! Woah!" His eyes grew wide, "So not only do you get to hear singing, but you eat good food too? So lucky!"

"Yes, yes! It's great when we go to visit him and get to enjoy the food that he makes. I get to help out sometimes but only with things that don't involve anything sharp. My father doesn't want me to risk getting hurt on one of his sharp blades." She explained in a happy manner to Pello. It was just a shame that she didn't get to see him as often as she liked.

"What is courier work like?" She asked in a curious manner, "Is that something you're going to do when you get older too?" She'd met a couple people that did that sort of job in the past, those that brought things to her mother or fresh ingredients to her father but she'd never been able to question them about their jobs before. This seemed to be a prime chance to do just that so she should take advantage.

He nodded, imagining the food options and his mouth watered a bit in the water. It sounded great to have someone who knew how to make food like a chef. His mother and father could prepare food, but they didn't often eat things cooked or stewed, only raw from the reef. Whenever he went into the deep sea, sometimes he had vent-prepared foods which was warm and delicious as well.

"Oh, a courier is like a mail man. They take important packages from one person to the other. My parents have associates in the deep sea they transport wares up to the reef and back again..." As she asked if he would do it, he seemed a bit uncertain, "Oh I'm not too sure. I like traveling, and it does mean I get to see a lot, but I'm not sure what we are going to do. With the river reaching the sea, my parents might change their job to include a bigger distance, and I might help with that as well."

He liked the idea of seeing the river, but the water he swam in made him light headed, and he didn't want to reduce the visits to seeing his deep sea friends.

Fui Fui moved a bit closer to Pello, seemingly listening to his every word intently. Giving a smile she said in a very awe inspired way, "Wow! Your family goes even further then we do! We tend to stick to the reefs mostly... though with the river having opened up distant lands my mother has been considering going to visit those up river." She'd never said anything about going down into the depths though, seemingly finding it too scary and dangerous for two lone women to attempt. To think that the couriers went there though.

"It sounds like you have to be pretty strong if you're going to be a courier that goes that far, huh?" Did that mean that Pello was from a family of really tough people? Fui Fui found herself even more impressed just thinking about it.

Smiling she said, "Maybe we will meet each other in the river lands one day if both our families head in that direction!" It would be fun to run into someone she knew while she was in a foreign land. They could explore together that way!

"It's nothing, really..." He said and waved off the complement, "We've been doing it forever...although I don't know about the river...It made me sick the last time I went there, so I think I might stick to what I know..."

He wasn't one to shy away from things, but with how light headed he got, he couldn't enjoy the new scenery of the river, and ended up having to turn back and go home well before the trip was over. It was a major bummer, and caused him to reconsider the idea of traveling so much.

"Oh yes, we are great swimmers! I work hard every day to swim against the tides and become stronger so I can get to places as fast as my parents. Speed is very important, because we often need to get things to market as soon as we can!" He smiled at her, nodding in thought, before adding, "Well, if you ever need someone to show you the way down to the deep sea, let me know. I'm always going down there, and I'm sure they'd like to hear a new voice with how dark and boring it sometimes get...oh!" He blushed, "Don't tell anyone I said that..."

"Oh no! It made you sick?" Fui Fui asked, looking worried, wondering what about the river had made the pretty, red boy sick. Was it a dangerous place? Was it the way the water was? Liloa had told her that it was a bit murky so maybe something in that murk wasn't good for Pello?

As he started to describe the way that they had to work hard, that they had to battle the tides, and get around swiftly she clapped her hands, "Wow! That's really amazing!" She was quite impressed by the skills that Pello must have. Was that something that all couriers had to do? It sounded as though such strength was important to them as a whole. Especially if they had really important packages to deliver that took all of their skills.

"Hmm... I might take you up on that someday, Pello!" The depths sounded very scary to her but at the same time if her voice could be popular it made it a little bit more tempting. She'd at least consider it if she found herself becoming more courageous as she got older. Giving a soft chuckle she said, "I promise, I won't tell anyone!"
