Quote: While out and about, you manage to obtain a cute cooking pot designed to look like a witch's cauldron. It's a little eccentric but wanting to get in the spirit of things, you or a loved one obtain it and food is prepared in it, be it for a personal or social gathering. Only... anything made in this pot tastes startling of candy corn. Regardless of whether you finish your homemade treat, you find that no matter what you eat or drink, everything for the next twenty-four hours tastes exactly like candy corn. The strange thing is, this only seems to happen once. After you've given it a good scrub, it doesn't seem to have the same effect ever again. They were having a company party.
It was a small thing, restricted to each floor in order to keep things from being overly extravagant for a holiday as mundane as Halloween. The building was large, with the number of employees increasing at least every week if not practically daily. Jade was pleased, on some level, about the way the company was growing and the things that they were attempting to strive towards.
Right now they were still working on post-re-opening and getting all of the new hires settled in both their civilian lives and the new powered one. Jade herself was still adjusting, though she strove to keep anyone from realizing that.
She had to put on an air of confidence and control. This was her company, they were her hand-picked hires and recruits. Things would be fine.
Work had been 'canceled' mostly but all of the employees were expected to attend this 'party' and schmooze their way through multiple floors and each of them had buffet tables set out and decorated for the occasion along with various cubicles. People had been told that it was going to be potluck style and everyone was required to sign up to bring something.
Sure the company could have afford to cater but this was about providing for the team from it's members.
So here they were.

Delilah was uncertain.
What was the etiquette for a company party? What was expected of her? What was she supposed to wear? If it was for Halloween was she supposed to wear a costume? What was an appropriate costume? Was there an appropriate costume? Would they laugh at her for deciding to not come in a costume? She was prepared, though, she had bought a witch's hat, and she had also bought a masquerade mask, and she figured maybe she could pretend to be a fancy witch or something if it came to it, because that was appropriate, right? What was appropriate?
Was the dish she had brought appropriate? Delilah couldn't really cook, didn't really have the talent for it, didn't really have the memory for it. She ended up buying something from the local co-op because it looked tasty enough, but she didn't know now that she set it down if it was the right thing to bring. She had signed up to bring something substantial because she figured that most people would just bring snacks, but all she ended up buying from the co-op was some soup. Was soup something someone could bring to a buffet?
She didn't know what she was doing--
Would her co-workers even like her? Delilah didn't know. There was the element that she was a corrupt senshi and not an agent and she knew that could make things awkward sometimes, but she also didn't know if everyone here was powered. She knew her teammates were here, theoretically...
Would they like her?
Delilah made herself take a deep breath that sounded a bit too rattled, and scurried to the corner of the room. Maybe she could see if someone actually took the dish she brought. Hopefully.
Maybe she should leave and go find a backup--

Reid, on the other hand, went all out for the more or mess mandatory company Halloween party.
By all out, he spent twice as much as he normally would for such an affair - since they were required to bring edible items to this "party" (and there was no way to opt out of it -- he'd checked), he spent an entire five dollars and took advantage of Wal-Mart's two-for-five sale when it came to packages of Oreo cookies. Orange icing, no less. Talk about getting in the spirit of the holiday!
He spent another five dollars buying a loaf of bread, a jar of offbrand peanut butter and some grape jelly.
Once home, he made eight sandwiches and wrapped them up in saran-wrap, eating the ninth for his dinner that evening.
Reid was proud of himself - he'd spent ten dollars and not only found a way to provide a somewhat satisfying meal for at least eight of the party goers but he splurged and brought enough cookies to take care of those with peanut allergies or sweet tooths.
Despite his pride, he remained quiet as he found a chair to sit in, fingers absentmindedly picking at the array of small edible treats that were portioned perfectly in a small circle around the rim of his paper plate.

Emmy did not understand making a potluck required. Making food had not been listed anywhere on the lists of things she was expected to do. It wasn't in the interview process. It wasn't in her job description. It certainly wasn't in her Negaverse duties. It was a problem, but it was a problem that Walmart was able to solve. They had those soft round cookies with the icing that were always seasonal and seemed to be made mainly for this kind of company party. Her new paycheck let her pick out a few boxes without really thinking twice. Perfect. With the food issue solved, Emmy was ready for this company party. She didn't mind working, but it was also important to get to kick back from time to time, and also this was the perfect opportunity to break out her new black glitter eyeshadow. Also, her bat themed choker and earrings set. Red lipstick and a set of cheap vampire teeth finished off the look, and there she was, setting down her cookies at the snack table, getting her own paper plate of snacks, and taking a look around. The room was quiet. Too quiet, Emmy decided. She understood the need for introvert time and all, but at the moment they were being paid to get to know each other. Also, she did not want to spend the foreseeable future staring at a wall. No, that just sounded terrible. She focused in on a man sitting down and slipped into a seat across from him. "Why, hello there," she said with a fanged smile. "I don't think I've seen you around."

Ari was well prepared for a potluck. They brought two platters of food (vegetable crudites and crackers and cheese), as well as plates and plastic cutlery. People had a tendency to forget the basics when they were busy, but they made an extra note of it. A halloween party would be a good time for them to get to know their coworkers a little better, as a new negaverse agent... they weren't sure what to expect, but they came into the party with a bright smile on their face. A costume wasn't necessarily stated to be required, but they liked the opportunity. It reminded them of their theatre days to get all dressed up in cheap stuff. For this party, they had a golden tinsel halo, some white feathery wings, and a white robe. An angel! It was funny, though they worried about the wings getting in the way a bit. They put their potluck offerings on the table and looked at the corner of the room where one of their coworkers was lingering. Approaching Delilah, Ari laughed. "Hey you, what are you hiding back here for? Not having fun?"Quote: other ppl are free to talk to them as well!

Yuri was currently sporting a Tallulah Black costume. There had been a number of things she had thought about being but she had been her for halloween a couple of years back and still had all the things for it so decided it would be a nice thing to recycle since it wasn't like any of the folks here had seen her in it. Though, it didn't quite go with the cauldron she had purchased. It had literally been a last minute thing and she thought it had been super cute and festive for the potluck. Not really having ever participated in one before she decided to make some small things and bring in stuff for some nice witches brew punch. Trying to get there a little bit early since she had to set up the punch she had placed a few of the finger foods upon the table. Two of which were these adorable pumpkin looking rice krispie treats and some devil deviled eggs. She had wanted to do the punch at home but knew it would have spilled on the way over so had brought a bag with her that held all the ingredients. Setting it up away from everyone else she put everything into the cauldron that the recipe required and with a satisfied beam looked at her creation. Did it taste okay was the real question. She had never made it before so she took a small cup and tasted it and was surprised to find it tasted of candy corn? Was that how it was supposed to taste? Giving a shrug she figured that was how it was supposed to taste and brought the foggy looking drink over to the table. Looking around she smiled at all the faces of her fellow teammates. Though she hadn't really talked to any of them much? Perhaps she could change that tonight. "Hello! I'm Yuri." It was pretty much a proclamation to the room and she looked at the food table for a moment. "Anyone else going to dig in?"

Delilah had been staring so intently at the other people in the party that she didn't realize someone actually approached her, and couldn't help an odd, strangled gasp of alarm. Perhaps it showed that she was more nervous than she would have liked to let on, and the bright blush that spread across her cheeks only backed that up. "Ah," started Delilah, uselessly, taking in the person in front of her. Oh no, they were dressed up. Was this really supposed to be a dress-up thing? Well, at least she was prepared. She had a witch's hat somewhere, and a masquerade mask. Where had she set the witch's hat? Was it on her desk? Where was her desk? Why couldn't she remember where her desk was? Why was she getting so anxious? She just wanted these people to like her, but she also didn't know what she was doing. Why did the person in front of her laugh? Did she look funny? Why were they so much more confident than her? Could she kill them and take their confidence? -- No that wasn't how that worked -- Delilah fished the mask out of her pocket and pulled it on her face, so she at least looked somewhat in dress code. "Oh, I'm just watching everyone for now. I'm not here all the time so I figured I'd just," she paused, perhaps a second too long, "watch and figure it out..." Smooth, Delilah.

It took Reid a moment to realize that the vampire (vampiress?) was talking to him and blue eyes widened as he looked up in surprise at the young woman. He'd been thoroughly content to blend into the background of the whole affair - who cared to talk to the gofer of the group, anyways?
He came in, he did his job, he left. And that was all anyone really needed, right? And with the new Negaverse tasks on his plate, unpaid tasks at that... well, when did one really have time to socialize?
"Hello."
That was a start, right?
"I've been around for a couple weeks. I'm not one of the tech people."
He wasn't sure of their proper titles - also wasn't sure if he really cared, either. But politeness had always been ingrained in him from his mother and he wasn't about to be rude to this long-toothed girl.
"I'm Reid Covey. I, uh...like your...outfit?"
Eyes wandered around towards the others as more seemed to cluster into the room slowly. He noticed his boss standing at one side and shifted to make eye contact, as if to ask can we go yet??
stari_maga sorry, he's socially awkward ;(

Ella knew a thing or two about parties. She’d been part of an online LAN party a few times and seen how the in-person ones worked on Netflix, so clearly she was an expert in all things related to celebration and jubilee. That it was a holiday themed work function was of little consequence to her--it just meant she had to approach the idea of being outwardly social with a pumpkin-spice state of mind. It wouldn’t be a big deal either way. She was only meeting a few coworkers, and they were all bound to be a bunch of nerds.
She shuffled into the room a few minutes after the appointed meeting time, nursing an energy drink and bouncing her head in time to whatever was playing through her headphones. If there had been some kind of memo about costumes, she’d elected to ignore it, but she was at least wearing a purple hoodie with some kind of sci-fi printed motif on it, and she offered a casual wave to whoever was in the room. “Greetings, Earthlings,” she said dryly, and she sloughed off her backpack to add a couple of two liters of Mountain Dew to the table of offerings. It was ambrosia of the gods, surely it was appropriate to bring to an office shindig, right? Ella never bothered removing her headset while she worked, bobbing along to the beat, and then she found a place near the wall and set up the rest of the contents of her bag, a sticker-decorated laptop with a glowing green keyboard and a couple of speakers.
“Hope nobody minds if I set the mood,” she said to no one in particular, sitting cross-legged on the floor, her eyes on the screen while she tapped at a few keys. A couple of seconds later, the speakers began to play, something electronic and upbeat and heavily sampled with classic Halloween sounds, wolf howls and rattling chains and ominous evil laughter. Only then did Ella take off her headset, letting it sit around her neck, and she tapped her foot in time to the beat while she continued to type away.

Because it was just a casual company thing, Jade didn't do much with her 'costume. In fact, she had picked something a little silly and that could be thrown together easily enough. Her costume was 'YouTube' because that was her 'gimmick' besides being the face and head of this company she was still adjusting to running.
Still, it brought her some relief to see her newest hires milling about and contributing.
Her brow furrowed at the platter of...home made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, because they were unexpected, but otherwise things seemed to fill out enough.
There was a vegetable platter, a variety of chips, and more were settling on the table.
She had spotted Delilah, anxiously off to the side and she'd nearly headed over, to coax the girl to put her things on the table but someone else beat her to it. It was fine and good. The point of it all was to mingle.
Reid caught her eye and she raised a brow at him as if to say mingle before she moved on. Stopping by the table she swiped a deviled egg, grinning at Yuri before popping it into her mouth and crossing over to give Ella's set up a once over. "PG-13, yeah?" It was a thinly veiled approval while setting a guideline for the type of tunes that could blare out.

Emmy's shoulders scrunched up happily at the compliment. The smile stayed, too, although that was partially due to not wanting plastic fangs digging into her gums. She ran a hand through her bangs to show off her fingernails, which were painted a lovely scarlet that matched both her glasses and lipstick. "Aww, thanks," she said. "I had a lot of fun putting it together. I'm actually new, too. Not in tech, though." She waved a hand at that. She worked with technology, maybe, but she didn't make the hardware or software, and she certainly wasn't in IT. "I'm on writing staff. Emilia Asher, or Emmy if it's easier." The plastic smile was starting to hurt her mouth a bit, but she still reached out to offer a handshake. "I've been really liking it so far. I think it's just adorable that they're throwing a party for us." Even if others seemed to be taking a similar approach to the potluck side of things as she was, it still felt like something from a real adult job, which Emmy was still adjusting to. That thought brought her to her plate of snacks. Someone seemed to put actual effort into the drink, which was letting off smoke, somehow. She took a quick sip, expecting the typical bubbly fruit flavor, and instead it was like she had just taken a mouthful of cheap candy corn. She did manage to swallow, but she couldn't help a wince.

Jade found the deviled egg to be fantastic and she looped back around after flitting this way and that making sure that people were interacting at least. Ella was playing mostly appropriate music so she was content to let the girl do as she pleased even if she hadn't exactly dressed up the way Jade had envisioned her staff doing.
At some point she'd returned to the table where Yuri's punch was looking quite delightful and she'd helped herself to a cup.
When she took a sip however, she found herself frowning, squinting at the liquid before taking another sip. Her nose wrinkled and her tongue pressed against the roof of her mouth.
"Candy corn punch? That's...a different flavor choice than I expected," Jade said to Yuri.

She tried her best to get rid of the taste stuck in her mouth but it seemed to remain like a bad after taste and just decided to shrug it off. When Jade took a drink and commented about it she threw up her hands with one of those, I'm not sure what to say, sorta expressions on her face. "I really hadn't thought that was how it was going to taste given the recipe? So I'm quite uncertain as to why it tastes like candy corn. To be honest, I was just as surprised by the taste." It was true, she had expected this nice seltzer fizz of fruit punch and lime, yet she had been bombarded by an overpowering amount of candy corn. WHICH, if she was being up front, she liked candy corn, but not in that amount of quantity. "At least the rest of the food I made tastes good! I may have tried some of it before packaging it all up." She gestured towards the other things she had brought and actually hoped to try some of the other things upon the table. Weren't they all in for a shock.

"It's a family friendly spook mix," Ella nodded, though she tapped away at a few keys in a hurry and the song faded out to something similarly electronic and upbeat, but with a smaller chance of a Nicki Minaj interlude in the second verse that would make a sailor blush. When she'd adjusted the volume to her satisfaction, she sat up from her rig, making her way over to the free food station.
Ella raised an eyebrow when she heard the phrase 'candy corn punch'. "That sounds disgusting," she commented, even as she reached for the ladle to pour herself a cup. She took a sip, wrinkled her nose, and laughed. "Oh my god, it tastes exactly like candy corn, that's so gross," she giggled, before taking another sip, only to be delighted that it still tasted exactly like cheap wax sugar candy.
Still, she downed the rest of the drink, setting her empty cup at the end of the table to free up her hand for a couple of store bought cookies--only to make a face after biting into the first one. "Oh man--it just lingers on the palate," Ella winced, covering her mouth. "It's just--it's candy corn all the way down."

Jade couldn't help but make a face at the drink, but she still drank the contents of her cup because she wasn't going to be rude and wasteful.
"I did have one of the deviled eggs, they were delightful. In fact--" She paused to pluck another one up and popped it in her mouth. As she chewed, there was a wonderful face journey that consisted of what had been a smile, shifting into furrowed brows and a scrunched up face, and the a hard swallow-- the kind when you didn't want to swallow but you couldn't spit whatever it was out.
"Um." She looked at the deviled eggs with a perplexed expression. "That didn't-- They taste like candy corn too." Just to be sure, she tried another piece and, since she wasn't a candy corn fan, she had to snag a napkin and spit it out.
"Yeah. That." Jade stopped, reaching for some water to wash it down but that too tasted like lingering candy corn. "That's really strong. It just clings to my tongue."
