He was by no means an expert at fighting, so in recent days Carminite had been spending more and more time in Negaspace just to get some training in. At some point he figured he'd run into someone who would want to pick a fight, and it was good to be better prepared. Just about anyone can throw a punch, but he knew it would take lots of time and lots of practice for him to be any good at it. So there he was, shadowboxing for the time being. It wasn't a good replacement for actually having someone to spar with, unfortunately, and it didn't do anything to help him hone in on his enhanced strength and abilities as an agent either. He didn't have any contacts within the Negaverse, no one he felt he could rely on in any case, so he had to make due for now.
Contacts would come with time and exposure. That's how it worked with any job, and a secret organization like the Negaverse was no exception.

Captain meant a lot of things. Some of them were pretty boring, responsibilities and duties and all that, but some of them were super, super fun. Like, Sylvite's knives, and the fact that she could teleport. That last bit came in extra handy on this particular night, when the city ended up being pretty empty and she realized that she could just pop right over to Negaspace. She could explore a little in a whole different dimension. Yeah, that was what she did. She's always thought Negaspace was super pretty, with the crystals and all, and taking some time to bounce around from one spiky stalagmite to another was a whole different experience to her usual late night rooftop parkour. Also, there tended to be agents around, which was another pro. They tended to be pretty cool. When she felt a lieutenant nearby, she bounced right on over. That was part of the Captain thing, too. She was pretty sure she was supposed to make sure the lieutenants were doing okay. So when a dude came into view, punching at something, she bounced off her crystal and called out to him. "Lieutenant!" She landed on solid ground with a big grin and a wave, then glanced around. Seemed pretty empty. "Hi! Is the air, like, bothering you?"

He was heavily focused on his little "workout" when someone called out to him. Or at least he thought someone called out to him. So he dropped his hands and looked in the direction of the voice, his eyes landing on a figure not too far away. Her energy signature was one that outranked his so he immediately stood at attention. Nothing too tense but he wasn't in a fighting stance anymore, at least.
"It's shadowboxing," came his reply, "since I don't have a sparring partner right now it was the best I could do." He did consider joining a gym specifically for fighting, but at the moment his budget couldn't take the extra expense so he made due. It was funny how the real world got in the way of this kind of thing, but it certainly did.
There was only a little paused before he added, "Unless you'd be interested?"

Even after the guy stopped, Sylvite spent a good five seconds just staring with her face a little scrunched, considering. Then, she nodded. "Huh. Yeah, that's probably pretty smart, and like, motivated." Did she train when nobody was around to tell her to? No. No she did not. Not fighting stuff, at least. She hadn't seen anyone else out here punching the air either, though. "Nobody else to train with, though? That seems kinda boring. Did your general not hook you up?" It wasn't always that simple, she knew. Sometimes generals dissipated under mysterious circumstances and you were left on your own for years. Still, the Negaverse was a big team. There should be people to help out when stuff like that happened. People like her. She grinned. "But, yeah, I'm up for it," she said, moving so that she was a couple feet away from him with her knees just slightly bent, not in an obvious stance but ready to drop into one quickly. "I could probably use the practice, too."

Motivation was about all he had when it came to the Negaverse. He wanted to excel, to climb up the ranks, to be considered an asset to some degree. All that came with hard work, or at least it always had in his life when it came to rewards. He considered the captain for a long moment, considered her words and pondered on what she had done to earn her title and her rank. In the end he held his tongue and, when she posed another question, he gave a little nod.
"No one else, and I don't have a general to speak of." Or at least not one that he knew about. Things had always been sketchy in this area. He knew the rules and how things were supposed to work per the brochures and such from those meetings from so long ago, and from general information any Negaverse agent had access to, but things really were never that cut and dry. He didn't mind, he just...made do.
The lieutenant watched as Sylvite got into some kind of a stance upon accepting his offer, and he couldn't help but smirk. "Appreciate your time."
That was all the warning she got before he closed the distance between them, fist pulled back, aimed for her stomach, and ready to hit its mark.

No general? This guy really was just like her when she was starting out! There was the part where he was clearly older than her and a dude and didn't really seem to like talking much, but whatever. They had stuff in common, and that made Sylvite grin big and decide that she was gonna do her best for him and not just for the bosses. "Yeah. That happens. There's people recruiting if you want. I think you get cooler missions with a superior." She leaned in, still grinning, like she was telling him a secret or something, but she was actually watching him very closely. She was ready, but even here she wasn't really one to start a fight. She watched him step forward. She saw the punch coming. She sidestepped it, which made her smile even bigger, so big that her cheeks started to hurt. Like, yeah, she knew she was faster now, but that was good. "You're welcome," she said. Her foot shot out in a quick, light kick towards his ankles. "Oh, I'm Sylvite."

One of the advantages of fight training was learning to react, though that aspect was lacking when one was forced to shadowbox. Still, he had enough know-how and experience from his youth that he recovered quickly from the dodge and blocked her oncoming kick with one of his own. "Yeah, I think I'm doin' alright for now."
He tried for two quick body shots this time, hoping he'd be quick enough to connect at least one of the two. "I figure someone'll find me at some point, so I'll skate around until that happens. As long as I meet my quotas, right?"

Sylvite blocked one of the incoming punches, grinning, still feeling really good about all of this, but the second one hit her straight in the ribs and she squeaked and stepped back. That hurt! "Nice," she said, instead of giving some spiel about how fighting was dumb like she wanted to. "Quota's kinda the baseline, though. You should try to find some missions or like, just hang out with people if you can." She came back with a torso punch of her own. Fighting was less dumb when she got some hits in.

He flashed a little grin when she complimented him on actually hitting here. It was certainly a feat given their difference in rank so he took it for what it was and refocused on the fight.
"Baseline...yeah, you're not wrong, there." He tried to dodge but wasn't quite quick enough, and he felt her fist come in contact with his stomach. It wasn't enough to knock the wind out of him, but he took two staggered steps back, wincing.
"s**t." He took a second to catch his breath before he closed the distance again, this time choosing to stay on the defensive until he could properly breathe. "It's hard enough to balance two very different jobs and have a life somewhere in between, and that's just with trying to meet my quotas. If I tried to go on missions, too..."
When he saw his chance the lieutenant aimed a kick at her leg, hoping to knock her off her balance.

Sylvite nodded. "Yeah, I get it, I get it," she said, and then her punch connected and she giggled as her opponent stumbled. She then took the opportunity to stand a little straighter while he got himself together, and grit her teeth against the fact that she was probably gonna have a bruise, too. This was a spar, she wasn't gonna be mean about things. "Stuff gets really busy." She probably didn't look like one to talk, being one of those eighteen year olds that looked maybe twelve, and with the lieutenant being a real adult with a job and stuff, but she really did get it. She had cheer and school and parents who got all worried, which meant the Negaverse, even with its cool magic stuff, got back burner sometimes. "Baseline doesn't have to be boring, though," she said. She was ready for the next attack and stepped back, away from the kick. "Get creative! Get your quota while you're helping out with missions, or like, join a branch and get your assignments changed around." She threw a kick right back at him.

He was able to barely step away from her kick, and he used his reach to his advantage, taking another two jabs at the captain before again going into a more defensive position. It was a spar, sure, and while she looked younger he didn't want to hold back. Her being a captain...he honestly didn't think he needed to.
"Believe me, I'm workin' on it," he eventually replied, lip curled. "Far as branches go, I like keeping my options open so I'm sticking to GenOps." In the end that might be why he didn't really have an "official" general yet.

"Okay, okay," Sylvite said, and that was before she got struck squarely and sent stumbling and struggling, for a second there, for breath. She grit her teeth as she stood back up, not so bubbly now. "Fine, you're a responsible adult or whatever, you can figure it all out. Sure." She was trying to be nice and do her job as a Captian, making sure all the liutenants were on the right path and stuff, but if he didn't want her advice, that was fine. Yep. Totally fine. She'd just be a nice little fighting buddy like he wanted. She threw another punch, not even holding back a little this time.

"Uh...I guess?" He arched a brow at the sudden change in her tone, and considering her words he figured she must have been part of the younger crowd in the Negaverse. He...had mixed feelings about that, but if they could hold their own here then by all means, as far as he was concerned.
He let the "responsible adult" remark pass and just put his focus into the spar, figuring that must be the end of her spiel. Given that she was a captain despite being younger than him she must have been doing something right, but that still didn't change his mind about really picking a branch to stick with. Like she said, he could figure it out. And he would, eventually.
Her next punch he saw coming, but he was too slow and she hit her mark, spot on. The lieutenant staggered back several steps, now feeling very much winded, and he felt a headache coming on, but he wasn't out of the fight yet. He retaliated with another combo, one aimed at stomach while the other went for her face.

Her punch hit, and she smiled at that, even though she was breathing pretty heavily now. She was careful about not getting too happy about it, though. Like, so happy that she didn't see the next attack coming. That happened to her kinda a lot actually. Because of that, she saw the first punch and stepped out of the way of that, but before she could really swing back, the second fist hit. Right in her face. It was her cheek, at least. She wasn't spitting out teeth or anything, but still. It hurt. It hurt a lot, and she saw floaty lights until she blinked a couple times. She stepped back, wary of more attacks. "You're fast," she said, and she tried to smile again, since it was probably a good thing that he was good at fighting. It came out as more of a grimace since she still didn't love getting punched in the face.

The two of them seemed to be breathing equally as heavy, from the workout and the myriad of hits they took from each other. Being a captain he was surprised she hadn't pulled her weapon out to gain the advantage, though at the same time he found himself feeling grateful for that. Even ground was a good place to be, after all.
"So are you," he said through an amused smile. "More fight training and you'd probably kick my a** in a real fight. Seriously."
At that he jumped in again, throwing out another combo, two jabs and a kick aimed for her stomach. He was getting tired and moving a bit more sluggish, but hopefully still fast enough to make a hit.
