--Eretria had always loved wandering the forest outside her family home, the peace was a welcome respite from the machinations and scheming of her father. She loved it even more when she happened upon a handsome stallion, and they began meeting in secret in the forest. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, and the two found themselves in love. Knowing her father would never accept his daughter mating to a stallion of no standing, they planned to run off together, roaming the lands, enjoying each other's company and living happily for the rest of their lives.
--But, Eretria's father was no fool, and he knew his daughter was up to something. Her behavior had been different as of late, and so he followed her to the secret clearing in the forest. His rage built as he watched his daughter make plans with this...insignificant stallion. Quietly leaving his hiding spot, Eretria's father brooded on how best to punish his daughter during the walk back to his home. As the idea formed in his head, a wicked smirk bloomed on his face. Her punishment would be swift and brutal.

--Tonight would be the night! Eretria and her handsome stallion would meet at midnight, leaving her horrible father behind with no clue to on how to find her. Even his hunters wouldn't be able to find them, they'd flee so far. Her heart was practically beating out of her chest with excitement, and it was difficult to keep the smile from her face. She retired early after dinner, quickly double-checking her bag she'd packed weeks ago, when they'd first planned for their escape. Now all there was to do was wait. Eretria would wait until after her father had retired for the evening, then slip out through the servant's entrance.
--The house was still and dark as she slipped through, as quietly as she could. So far, her plan was going smoothly, and it gave her hope. She was really leaving! Eretria knew her father would be furious when he woke the next morning to find her gone, but she didn't care. She was finally free. After she'd walked quietly for several minutes, she couldn't stand it anymore, and broke out into a run, excited for her new life of love and adventure.
--But, she was too late. As she entered the small clearing that was their secret meeting place, Eretria watched as her father ordered the death of her love, and one of his hunters carried it out with glee. Her horrified, heartbroken scream echoed through the clearing. She was shattered, completely. What would she do now? How did he find out? She was so careful...but this was all her fault. As her father sauntered up to her, triumph and pleasure plain on his face, she collapsed, sobbing. "Why...?", she whispered. "Why did you do it?" With a snort of derision, he replied "Because, my Jewel, I will not have you run off with some lowly peasant. You are valuable, and will secure me power when I find you a worthy mate."
-- His smile sickened her. With a scream of anguish, she rose, using her horns to strike at his face, successfully gouging an eye. With a roar of pain and rage, her father stumbled back. "SEIZE HER!", he screamed. "SEIZE HER, AND THROW HER IN THE PRISON TOWER!" As his hunters came for her, her heart sank further. Eretria knew her father was angry, but to imprison her....she would never escape. Did she even want to now? With one last look at her love's lifeless body, she let the hunters lead her through the forest, to a single tower. It had been enchanted to be completely fortified, and kept stocked of food and clean water, so she wouldn't need to come down. But, as they locked the trap door in the floor behind them, leaving her to her misery, she decided she didn't want to. She'd never leave this place. Without her stallion, the world was nothing anymore. Eretria lay on the only piece of furniture in the room, a straw mattress, and cried until tears would no longer come, mourning her love.

Extra Information: Eretria's father is a wealthy, but somewhat lowly, merchant. His goal is to gain more status through the mating of his daughter to the son of a wealthy family. He refers to her as his "Jewel", as she is pretty and valuable to him. He is not the sentimental type, but Eretria's gentle nature fooled her into believing that he loved and cared for her more than he did. I think with freedom from the tower, she'd become vengeful and hard-hearted, and most likely take revenge, definitely burning down the family home (if not out-right killing her father).

Entry: All that shimmers is not gold.
'Skin that sparkled in the light, pale and beautiful.
A filly more vibrant than any other sought out for her beauty and fought over for her favor. Wickedness stole her and locked her away. A beauty captured, forever in a tower to remain.'

"And thus is the tale of 'Ivor's Rose.'"

Isadora glowered at the bad poetry and the terrible thoughts behind this tower. She was to live out her days, quiet and pretty, but what about how she felt? She wasn't the chief's daughter, but she was the loveliest female in the tribe, and she'd been groomed to stay here since the day her basket popped. A curse was her loveliness, and sour was her mood.

She was meant to wither away in this tower for the benefit of her tribe. Who even thought that story was real anymore? She took a long look at the reflection pool, it was lovely, comfortable, and lonely. She longed to meet others, make mistakes, get dirty, and enjoy life outside the tower walls. Locked away from all the world, alone with her thoughts. The darker her thoughts became the more she wished to get away from where she was destined to die.

Pleading, desperate, she couldn't stay here, even if it brought destruction to her tribe, no one could keep her here, not any longer. She planned her escape and prayed to the gods above that her life wouldn't be snuffed out the moment she found herself outside her prison walls.

Extra Information: Isadora Chrystleris will escape, with or without help, and work to see the world beyond her tower because withering away like a rose untended is not how she will end her life.

Entry: The Princess was brought up as any royalty would be...spoiled rotten. She never wanted for anything she was happy and didnt think her life could get better. Unfortunately this isnt a story of happy ever after...not yet. This is a story of a beauty and a beast but what no one realized this beauty was the beast.

A great sickness struck her land and among the casualties was the King, her beloved father. Succession passed to the young princess who was of age but her mother, the Queen Mother now, helped with the stuffy court duties. The princess was more focused on expanding her ever growing wardrobe. The princess never attended court and never visited the people as her family would always make a point to do. She refused to leave the palace at all!

As years passed the princess started to demand grander and grander things and would not take no for an answer, not even her mother! She demanded taxes be raised from the subjects to pay for her expensive clothes and jewels. The armory was melted down and sold off to also pay for the grandest tapestries and paintings that your eyes could ever be privileged enough to gaze upon. After time the kingdom was on the verge of ruin and the people put it all back to the princess.

She was finally confronted, cornered more like and asked what she would do for her people as they were going hungry and illness was starting to spread. The princess would never look anyone in the eye but yelled out "I dont care about any of you! Die for all I care! This is my castle and my kingdom, all i need is in my tower!". It didnt take long for her words to spread far and wide through out the kingdom.

The Queen Mother had long covered for her daughter and held the people at bay, but she feared her daughter that she knew was now a fading memory. She didnt know what changed her daughter but she was reserved that she was gone. There was a revolt on the castle within mere days the Princess was captured and punished. All her jewels and pretty clothes were stripped saved for a select few that she refused to let go of. The rest sold and distributed to the people to help rebuild and heal the damage she had down.

The Princess was locked in her precious tower with no way out. Only when she could realize the Beast she had become, obsessed with Beauty could she maybe find her rescue within grasp....
Extra Information: Behind the Scenes:
The Princess was a very loving and caring sort who originally didnt care for frivolity and dresses and jewels, but her father, The King, liked to spoil her. The two were very close and did everything together. Though she loved her mother she had a special connection with her father so when he died she lost herself. Upon his death she locked herself in her tower for days without food and water. When she emerged she seemed her normal self but she had truly lost herself in a way. She related the clothes and jewels her father had given her as a way of staying with him, feeling as if he was with her. As time passed it become an obsession she lost herself to. Deep inside she does care for her people as she is still the loving and caring ruler her father raised her to be but she has to find herself again and awaken back to realty and realize her mistakes before she can save herself and become the Beauty from the Beast that lay within! Sometimes sanity must complete break before reality can flood back in.

There once was a celebration for a set of newborn twins; they sparkled and twinkled like the day and night sky itself. The kingdom was so proud, for the twins were the heirs to a wondrous and loving King and Queen - and if the twins were anything like their parents, the kingdom was sure they'd be safe.

To the knowledge of none but their parents, however, the twins had a unique trait about them. The pink twin could only go up, and the other could only go down. It was strange, but they made sure that whenever they were out in public, no stairs were ever in the girls' way. For if they were to be exposed, the perfect little princesses would no longer be perfect, and the kingdom would riot! How could the King and Queen give birth to such abnormalities?

The girls weren't aware of their flaws, either. Their parents had shielded them from the truth, for fear of exposure. If the twins knew, wouldn't they be curious? Little girls were always playing around, wouldn't they want to see if it was true?

One day, while the twins were exploring, they came across a beautiful tower. Upon entering the tower, there were two stairways. One that went up, up, up!! And one that went down, down, down! The twin that could only go down, went down...never to be able to go up the stairs.

And the pink twin went up, up, up!! All the way to the top! And she was never able to go down.

Thus was the end of their tale.

Entry: Rosellia could do nothing but stare forlornly up at the night sky as the moon beamed down brightly, oblivious to the mare's plight. It was her own damn fault for being so gullible, really... It was an Owlwalker who had lured her here, with such sweet words... She remembered that day and tried to suppress a shiver at the cold laughter that echoed in her ears as the foul beast trapped her within the tower. Too little, too late, to have thought to look for an Angeni Charm on them...
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

She was out by the stream, gazing with delight as the night sky danced across the surface of the water, the moon's light rippling in the center. A sudden noise made her whirl around, and stare with some trepidation at the creature that emerged from the nearby forest.
"Oh, don't be afraid. I'm of the friendly sort. Such a lovely moon, isn't it? Shines so brightly... Just like you. Would you like to see the moon up close..?" Tilting its head, the Owlwalker stood casually, giving no indication of what its true purpose was.
"Up... close..?" She was confused. How can one get closer to the moon?
"Oh yes, up close. I know a delightful place where the moon shines so bright and clear, and you can almost touch it with how near it is." The Walker smiled, fluffing up its feathers.
"Well..."
"It's not far at all! Follow me!" With a bound, the beast turned around and vanished into the forest. Hesitating but for a moment - after all, it was the moon she'd get to be so close to touching! - Rosellia followed, plunging into the dark forest.
"Not much farther now, bright lady!" The Walker called out, flattering and encouraging her, before emerging in another clearing that was surrounded by rose bushes. Rosellia gasped at how brightly they shone in the moon's light, and almost missed sight of the tower altogether until a polite cough brought her attention back. "Up here, at the very top."
Craning her head, she could see that the moon was indeed so close to the top of the tower. Why, it looked like it was on top of the tower itself! Without hesitation, she swiftly went inside and ascended the winding stairs until she reached the small room at the top, and emerged on the balcony. So lost in rapture at the nearness of the moon she failed to hear the scrape of the door and the click of the lock and the thud as the heavy beam fell in place until it was too late.
"You... you tricked me!" She wailed, racing down the stairs and trying to budge the door.
"You made it so easy, Princess." The Walker sneered, its laughter cold and unforgiving. "Now sit pretty and be the bait. I'm sure there will be many would-be heroes eager to rescue you. With you here, I'll have a never-ending supply!" Throwing its head back, cackling with glee, its voice soon faded away as they flew off into the night. What could she do now but weep?

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Oh Princess~" called a voice out from above as in swooped the Walker, some food in its talons. "Can't have you dying on me, not after all the work I put into finding this place and you." Dropping its burden upon the balcony, it swooped away once more. A single tear trickled down Rosellia's cheek as she gazed at the freedom that awaited her just out of reach... If only she, too, could fly. Oh how she wished she'd been born with wings!

Extra Information: Eventually there will come a "Prince Charming" or "Knight in Shining Armor" who will be able to get past the Owlwalker and rescue the fair damsel in dismay distress.

The eve of the Queen's basket opening was a wondrous celebration. Friends, family, well-wishers, and all of their small kingdom had turned up for the festival, and partied through the night as the little white basket held center stage. And oh, when it had opened and freed their little Princess, they rejoiced. She was a white and gleaming as the basket weave had been, adorned with the softest, purest pink. She caught and held many an eye...and yet, none could look away. Her coat was so brilliant, so gleaming, that the filly had captured all around her with the brilliance. If not for an old crone who attended, mostly blind with age, the entire kingdom could have fallen. Mud was thrown at the young Princess, to dull the captivating gleam, and her parents handed a terrible warning. The sway their daughter held would only grow with age, as she became lovelier and more pristine- until even mud would not shield their minds from her brilliance. It was a prediction they did not even think to question- for how well had their daughter captured attention at the beginning? No matter that the warning was handed by a bitter, jaded old mare.

For the safety of their kingdom, she had to be sent away. But to where? No eye would be able to look away from her, wherever she roamed. And so a tower was built- she would be tended by the winged ones who would deliver her food, and small gifts from her family, but none could look upon her through the tower window. As such, the window was placed that the winged ones would see only the blinding sunlight behind the tower, and be saved from the Princess' ensnaring beauty. And thus, she grew knowing only the knowledge of distance, of fear. None could tell her why they were afraid to stay and visit, to join her on the balcony and watch the sun setting and those brilliant stars. Soon, to answer her plea, they began telling of a wicked witch down below. That she was held in the tower to keep her safe- and they could not stay long for fear of being tracked. It was a sound story, at first, but she's heard the same tale for years now.

Extra Information: She will escape the tower, some way, somehow, and find that Beauty can be its own weapon- which may be her only saving grace in the wide world.

Entry: A long time ago, in a village far away, there lived a princess. Her name was Rose. She was a lonely young lady, and often referred to by her servants as being very ‘plain’ and ‘ordinary’, nothing special. And she lived a solitary life. But one day, from a distant corner of the world, a group of lowly bandits appeared. They kidnapped the princess and brought her back to their homeland and locked her away in the tallest tower.

So sad and afraid, Rose could only beat on the door and weep for no one would release her. On the third day of her imprisonment, a stranger clad in black appeared. He had been given a parchment with instructions on summoning the mightiest dragon. He dragged Rose to the center of the room and began reciting a summoning ritual, and she would be the sacrifice!

As he chanted Rose tried to fight back. Kicking and screaming, she tried desperately to escape. The stranger began to carve runes into Rose’s side. She cried out in pain! And as fate would have it, the summoning ritual succeeded. Out of the depths of the void came a beautiful, sparkling dragon made of pure pink crystal. As the dragon came into view, Rose could feel her own spirit start to fade. She was dying from blood loss.

The dragon observed the stranger for a short while, and then glanced over to the dying Rose. Suddenly the dragon roared. It was clearly unhappy at being summoned. What the stranger in black didn’t know, was that he had goofed. The parchment he had received was partly lies. He gave a cry of anguish as the dragon landed a clawed foot on him and shoved him down to the ground. Clearly he was going to be punished for angering the beast. In his final moments, he muttered a curse to the shady individual who had ordered this ritual be done in the first place. And he took his last breath.

Rose had nearly faded as well. She could see the light at the end of the tunnel. But then she heard a kind and gentle voice calling her back. It was the dragon! The dragon used what magic it had, to fuse it’s soul with Rose’s in order to save her life! And in that moment her body was covered in pink crystals, healing her wounds.

When Rose finally came around and had a clear mind, she rose to her feet. She stepped past the stranger’s body which still lay on the floor. And she went over and examined herself in the mirror. When she looked at her reflection she saw how mutated she was, and was embarrassed. She could only guess that it would be best to go into hiding. So she sealed herself away in the very tower where the incident took place.
Extra Information: (she was not originally covered in crystal. the reason she looks the way she does is because of what happened. lol)

Entry: Morganite had lived in her tower for as long as she could remember. It was her home, her sanctuary and there were those she knew that would think her captive and want to rescue her. She was an odd creature and perhaps she stayed in there out of habit and a sense of security really, but really she stayed there because it was her disguise.

Be the damsel in distress. They will flock to you.

And flock they would.

One by one someone would come seeking out the maiden in the tower and they would find her. Shining beauty, a prize to behold. Her restful figure looking so serene and gentle. They would approach, hoping to wake her to find it to be nothing but a ruse.

Their life would end quickly, most of the time. She didn't like to keep them alive for very long because their screams for mercy weren't to her liking. It made them even more pitiful to her.

Though there were a few that weren't there to save her and she seemed to like them enough to keep them alive. Those that were as dark and twisted as she but they would quickly realize she wasn't one to be crossed and continue on her way. How else would other's know she existed if she let them all die?
Extra Information: She buries the bodies around the base of the tower, it's why the vines and roses grow so wonderfully large. They feed on decaying bodies. She also keeps them in a garden in the back where she plants rose bushes in their chest cavities.

Entry: Aisling Sylvar’ah was born not born unto a king and queen who were good beyond all measure nor were they without fault. They were dutiful and did their best to run the kingdom with dignity and grace. The people loved their rulers however, un like in fairytales they were not want for nothing. They wanted a child very much their own but try as they might none was to be had. You see the queen was not the young thing she had been when first she wed and her king was much younger but as promised, she wed him all the same.

They were happy at first but soon the stress of a lack of heir bore weight upon the two and soon they drifted apart. Seeking an heir by Other means, the king was besotted by a young woman. In one night, the princess would be conceived and as these things happen there was something to be covered up. The scandal was not one the queen wanted bandied about, so she pleaded with the king to let her claim the babe as her own and weave a tail that she was born true blooded royal rather than to another mare and a commoner at that. When rumor of the king’s desire to put the queen aside for this younger mare reached her ears and she flew into a fit of jealousy. The queen was a practitioner of magic you see, so in the dead of night she stole the babe and carried her to a secluded tower hidden in the woods.
She grew never knowing her origins and only knowing her world to be the room she’d lived in so long. Of course, she knew there was a bigger world out there to be seen but never did she dream to see it. Day in and day out she would read or sing and even play some made up game ‘til her ‘mother’ would come to visit her. That was till one day when a small troupe of stallions came by her tower and found her. The troupe was a merry little band and thought only one seemed armored still they struck her interest.
For months in secret they would commune with one another, speaking to one another when her mother would not be around to catch them and soon, she wished to leave her little tower. When she made her wish known to her mother, she was shot down and told that the world was ugly and not for the likes of such a delicate mare as she. Still it didn’t squash her desire to leave.
The stallions returned one day and aided in her escape. They promised to take her to see the kingdom from which they’d traveled. Once there, she was in awe of the bustling liveliness of the Kingdome. As she was taken to the castle, an older stallion passed by. The troupe she was with bowed their heads and she gave a dainty little nod of her head unsure of what else to do.
The king paused as he walked by the young mare and bade her to lift her head. Uncertain of what else to do, she nervously did so.
“Your mother child, who is she?” the king bade her speak. “Myriam Sir.” She whispered. It was too good to be true. The King had thought his first wife long passed and the child she stole gone forever. But here standing before him was a mare who looked near the spitting image of his current queen but looking the right age for his lost child. He bade the mare taken to the castle, surely she thought there was something amiss.
While there she answered many questions, most revolving around the mare she perceived to be her mother. Her world was shattered to say the least. These parents she never knew wanted her to stay but outside of being locked away in the tower, her ‘mother’ had never been cruel. She was torn, should she stay or leave and return the only life she’d even known. At finding her daughter missing, the sorceress queen returned to the kingdom and demanded the return of her mother. With many threats and demands and even violence, she was forced to decide. In the end, she chose to take a path less traveled and chose to go her own way. She left to travel with the same troupe of merry makers who’d found her that fateful day and has lived happily since.
Extra Information: Myriam was cast out of the castle to save her from a harsher fate. The king and new queen still hope for the return of their daughter. Aisling however Roams the lands happy in her decision looking for her own way in life.

Princess Elora ( eh-LOH-rə) was the first born blessed with the beauty of her late mother. It was said her mother had wished upon a star and asked to be blessed with a daughter with a coat like snow glistening under dawn's first morning light. Her father though with slight disappoint at first, grown to see how truly special she was and appointed her heir to the throne. Later, her mother gave birth again to another daughter much like her father in appearance though a child of blessing meant for celebration the kingdom had mourn instead for their Queen had perished during the birthing. The youngest sibling at first had no qualms over her eldest.

That is until they grew older. It was apparent that Elora was special and she was only kept around as a back up to the throne. The breaking point came when a handsome suitor came into their lives, Elora was oblivious of his affections at first, but her sister sought for any attention she could get from him. When he confessed his love to Princess Elora and the King had approved of their binding love. Her younger sister's heart twisted in jealous rage.

Elora was like any other, she had a flaw. A flaw that had in the past brought her trouble. She was gullible! Her sister knew of that flaw and used it to her advantage. So, she lured Elora out into the woods.

"Come this way! We must take haste!"

"Sister, why must we flee the castle?"

Elora asked as she followed close behind her younger sister. She had never seen her sister so panic stricken. To be awaken in the eve before her ceremony, surely something was amiss.

"Elora, something...I..," her sister paused, her words trembled , acting perfect as if she was a star in those theater plays her father forced them to watch "The kingdom has a sickness!" she blurted out hysterically.

"A sickness?"

Confusion wavered over Elora's face. She was unaware of anyone being ill. Then her eyes widen in fear "What of father? What about.."

"Their fine! For now!"

Her sister cut her off before she spoke his name, she could not bear to hear Elora speak of him.

"Those who were ill...they didn't seem right almost like they've become cannibalistic monsters. I've watched with my own two eyes a maid be ripped apart by a knight."

"This cannot be.."

The fear in her eldest sister's voice caused her younger sister to smile. Lucky for her, Elora could only see her backside. She stopped before a tall tower secluded deep in the forest in a place their father had forbidden them to ever step hoof in, she turned around with fake tears running down her eyes "It's true..." she raised up her front leg to show a large bright red bite mark.

"Oh no..." Elora began to weep.

Her younger sister shook her head and looked back at the tower "Father told me of this place, he said to bring you there so that you'll be protected from the illness...so that you won't turn into one of those things..."

"What about you?" Elora whimpered.

"I can't go! But, I shall return to the castle and make sure father knows you are safe. Once this all passes I'm sure he'll come for you.."

"But..."

"The tower is well kept. There is plenty of food rations to last you months if must!"

Elora lowered her head, for a split second her sister felt a tad remorse.
"I don't want you to turn into one of those things..." Elora said sadly, she looked up at her sister, her eyes spilling out tears "I love you so much!"

"I...."

"Please come into the tower with me! Together we can wait this out and my beloved will come once all is right!"

"NO!"

Her younger sister shouted, as she used her spiked tail to entwine the doorknob and opened the door "You must survive! The kingdom needs you! Don't you understand? It's your duty!" she snapped at her.

Princess Elora then let out a large sigh, yes her duty was to rise to the throne and guide the kingdom to glorious days. She had not forgotten. But, at this very moment she'd be willing to throw all of it away as long as her sister stood a chance to survive. Her sister was important as well.

"I understand your feelings right now. But, you must live on! Your mother's most treasured wish!"

"SO ARE YOU!" Elora cried "DON'T YOU FORGET THAT!"

Her sister smiled a little, but even if her eyes wavered a split second she would not abandon the plan. She glanced up at her sister's pretty crown which sat upon her head "Do me this favor and lend me your crown? That way I can bring it back to father to assure your safety."

"You will not come..?"

"Of course I cannot."

Elora sniffled before lowering her head before her sister.

"Take it!"

Her sister took it into her mouth.

They parted ways, Elora entered the tower as the door slammed shut locking from the outside. She climbed the spiral staircase and looked out from the tower's window with tears, watching her sister head back towards the castle.

For many days she waited by the window. A glimmer of hope each morning, but soon a day became days then...

5 months later...

At the window once again, munching on some oats she looked towards the moon with swollen eyes drained dry of tears. She wondered did the illness pass?

Little did she know; no such illness existed and the crown her sister brought back was proof of her death, without Elora her sister became heir then married the one Elora had called her beloved.

Will she forever remain locked in a tower? Spend her days until death takes her or will someone stumble upon her as she waits by the window for a beloved who will never come.

Only the future knows the answer....

Extra Information: Sorry for the spoiler. I was afraid the page would stretch out to much! I also apologize for it being so long! I was inspired. Totally keeping this backstory if I win to find someone to rescue her! <3

“Just think about it, Win. Why won't the Council let anyone leave?”

A mottled brown stallion was pacing along the gray stone, face pulled downwards into a frown. In the corner was a young mare, her loose mane falling down her neck, the pale tresses curled and slightly wild.

“I don't know, why?” She asked in a playfully exasperated tone, rolling her eyes as the stallion whipped around to face her.

“Because that's how they maintain power, Win! By controlling our lives, keeping us trapped inside these walls.”

Winfry sighed and rose from the floor, shaking her hair from her face, “Dai, I'm sure the Council is just looking out for our well being. They say it's dangerous out there. Why are you doubting them all of a sudden? They have always treated everyone in the herd well.”

“That's the thing- it's not. Look, I was digging through the library archives and I found this old book..” the stallion turned and gestured to a worn leather bound book illuminated by candle light in the windowless room. He nosed the book open and Winfry curiously came forward, peeking around the stallion's broad shoulder. On the pages she could see words scrawled in a flowing script, and painted images of vibrant greens and electric blues.

“What is this..?” Winfry murmured, mesmerized by the pictures. “The mountain lake of Ticon, rimmed by coniferous pine trees, this lake was the home of the Kyrie tribe of native soquili..” she read aloud, and her eyebrows began to furrow into her forehead.

The stallion watched her intently and said, “Win, we are the Kyrie tribe… this book is about our ancestors before the tower. Look,” he flipped through more pages with equally vibrant pictures, before stopping on a page that depicted a single rose, blossoming and red. Winfry gasped.

“The ceremonial adornments… but how?”

“Because the council is hiding the truth, Winfry. Please, think about it- maybe we could escape. It's our only chance to-” Dai stopped, swallowing thickly and then finishing in a quiet, pleading voice, “It's our only chance to be together.”

Winfry exhaled sharply, turning and looking Dai in his dark brown eyes.

“I- I'll think about it,” she said, and let out a shaky breath. At that moment, a call came from outside the room.

“Winfry, dear? Come on, it's time to get you ready for your ceremony.”

At those words Dai stiffened, and Winfry found herself unable to pull her eyes up from the floor to look at him.

“I've got to go,” she said meekly.

“Think about it. Meet me by The Door at shadow's half if… if you want to try.”

---

Shadow's half was approaching quickly, and Winfry found herself sneaking along the halls of the tower and down the most underused staircases. Her hair was tamed and pinned atop her head, peppered through with ceremonial adornments- roses, the book had called them.

As she emerged from the narrow hall into the vaulted room that housed The Door, she was quick to spot Dai fidgeting nervously on the far side. As she came into view his anxiety seemed to melt, and he called softly across the room.

“You look beautiful.”

Winfry dipped her head in slight embarrassment but moved closer and rested her cheek on the warm fur of Dai's neck.

“I'm not so sure about this..” She said, her voice intonated with fear.

“It'll be alright. I already figured out how to shivy the lock.”

Winfry watched uneasily as he turned and fiddled with the lock on The Door. It was large, easily 10 feet tall and made of solid wood. On it were inscriptions in a language long forgotten. Suddenly, as Winfry was tracing her eyes along the details, there was a click and a rattle as the lock collided with the stone floors.

“Help me push it open,” Dai said, and Winfry did so, moving forward and pushing The Door until a wide enough gap was made they could get through. Dai held it open, planting his hooves as Winfry went through first. As Dai moved to follow, the door gently swung shut behind them.

It was dark, but Winfry could make out shapes that vaguely resembled the trees in the book but they seemed warped in the darkness. Uneasily she followed Dai forward, swinging her head. All along the trees and the ground were stripes of what looked to be black sludge, dripping from the contorted branches and clawed into the loose soil. From the undergrowth came a rustle and a deep rumble.

“Something's not right, Dai” she said, fear spiking in her voice. Out of the corner of her eye she saw two glowing, sharp eyes peer from the shadows and disappear behind the wiry frames of the trees.

As the eyes disappeared and the rumble became louder, Winfry for the first time considered that maybe the walls of the tower weren't to keep the herd in, but to keep something out.

Entry: Splendra was born in a rose garden to a doting mother and an absent father. Her mother, fearful that her daughter’s beauty would tempt stallions that would break her heart and incite jealousy in other mares, homeschooled her and hid her from the sights of others.

If only her father had stayed… her mother often wondered. She partly wanted to keep Splendra away from stallions because she herself could not trust any stallion after her husband left her and their lovechild.

One day, Splendra wandered a little too far from the rose garden and met a handsome stallion. He had never seen a mare so beautiful,
and she had never seen a stallion before… And of course, she thought he was gorgeous. Lol.

They fell in love and rendezvoused every day when Splendra's mother took her afternoon nap. One afternoon, her mother woke early and found Splendra and her stallion lovingly cuddled together under a tree. “SPLENDRA!!” Her mother shrieked as she dragged her away from him. Stunned, the stallion could only muster, “I-I’ll wait for you, my love!” And before Splendra could answer, her mother yelled, “You will NEVER set eyes on my daughter again. I will make sure of it!!”

And that my friends, was the end of Splendra’s reign on the outside.

From that day forward, she was locked up in a decrepit and abandoned clock tower that her mother fashioned into her “safe space.”
…Or “prison,” as Splendra liked to call it. Her mother visited her daily, served her meals and kept her company, but Splendra missed the outdoors… missed her handsome stallion.

One day… I will steal the key from my mother and escape this prison. Then I will go find my love. The problem with this plan was that she would break her mother’s heart. Her mother was only looking out for Splendra’s best interest (in her own way), and Splendra loved her dearly. I will have to convince her to give me the key herself, Splendra thought.

I will have to tell her that it isn’t safe for her to keep me here. If anything should happen to her, I would be left here to starve and die...

But Splendra felt for her mother.

She decided to give her a couple weeks to calm down before she would give her the talk.

After all, her mother obviously cared deeply about her. That is why she went to such lengths to keeps other horses away.
She would never want to risk having her daughter die a slow and painful death at her (the mother’s) own hands.

I want us to be a happy family. The three of us.

It’s not too late to trust again, mom.

Extra Information: Splendra was born and raised in the rose garden. She and her mother live isolated from others.

Sweet-Brier is a mare of utmost beauty. But her brambles and thorns are deadly toxic. Her body puts off a sweet apple scent, that attracts mates. Sweet-Brier is a kind-hearted mare, who doesn't want to hurt anyone!

The first to fall ill from her thorns were her parents. The mother did not die, but the father did. Broken hearted, she had a wizard lock her daughter away in a tower with plenty of food, water, and supplies. She had lost a lover and a child. The mother still visits from time to time. She brings gifts of jewelry, scarves, and other pretty things a mother would dress her daughter in. She has a bird fly them to her, and leave them on her window sill. Sweet-Brier never sees her mother, but knows in her heart where the gifts come from. She always looks for her out the window and cries. She never wanted to hurt anyone. When she weeps, her tears fall to the ground and bloom into flowers. All around her tower, a thick grove of gorgeous pink roses bloom.

The beautiful mare, with thorns of doom.

Extra Information: UGH. She is just beautiful!! Entering for tickets. Already got my event freebie.

Entry: Yvaine ShimmerBloom was born into the upper echelons of soquili society. She grew up wanting for nothing. The mare was provided everything she could ever wish for and things she’d never would have thought to want. Yvaine was groomed to be the perfect daughter, the perfect future wife. Someone who would bring prestige to her family.

....and she hated it all....

Yvaine spent her life locked up and kept safe in a box. Although she was miserable she did not let it diminish her kindness. Outside of her regular “Ladyship” classes, she applied herself to learning healing arts. Yvaine specifically was interested in herbs, flora, and dirt. The mare’s parents absolutely loathed their daughters interest because it was dirty and beneath her. The more they fought with her the more she applied herself to this. She wished to help others in a different manner.

Yvaine was soon told that she was to marry the son of one of the oldest merchant families. But little did the ShimmerBloom’s know....the merchants had another plan. This particular merchant family had ties to an evil Kalona family who’s life goals were to gain more power. They aimed to do so by controlling Yvaine.

On the eve of the wedding ceremony Yvaine decided this was the time to break out of her gilded cage. Unfortunately for the mare she was quickly tracked down by the merchant family’s hunter and locked into a tower. Never one to quit when things get sticky Yvaine quickly began scouring the tower looking for weaknesses. Yvaine will stop at nothing to escape from this tower.

Extra Information: Yvaine values someone’s character over their appearance. Actions mean more than flowery words. She doesn’t like when people only focus on her beauty. Once she escapes from the tower she will travel around and attempt to help others through good ole fashioned hard work.
