Di'o hadn't expected anyone to look up to them. They couldn't see, they weren't very familiar with the school, they only knew like two nightmares, tops. So when the little newcomer to the school had stuck to them, they'd been more than a little surprise. But it was working out far far better than they could have hoped. With Ecco's help they could get around easier, so there weren't any more locked-in-closet incidents. Instead there were two of them fumbling around, because most of the time whatever Di'o did, Ecco would copy. Ecco wanted to wear clothes similar to Di'o's. She wanted to eat whatever Di'o was eating. However they spoke, she would mimic that too.
It was more than a little unnerving for the doll. They couldn't tell if she was just wanting to be like them, or if she just didn't know any better. It did mean that they had to stay on their best behavior. So they didn't throw any fits at the store, they said their please and thank you's, they picked up after themselves the best they could. It made their mum happier and Di'o got to have a little sister. At least, kind of a little sister.
Ecco liked to spend the night at their house, and Di'o delighted in having a friend over. Even Zeke didn't like to come over to their house, so Ecco was the only one they spent so much time with. It was easy to forget that Ecco hadn't been made like them. That she was one of the first of a new race. To Di'o, she was just Ecco: strange, slimey, and enamored of them.
Their last class, the teacher had approached Di'o to propose a question. Di'o was going to start the next level of classes next month. Was Ecco going to come with them? Or would they leave her behind to make her way there once she had grown up a bit? Because there was no doubt that Ecco would want to come with them to their new classes, but they weren't old enough quite yet. They still had a bit of growing to do before they could join them.
Di'o hadn't been able to answer in the moment. But now that Ecco had gone for the day, they were left to ponder. Surely Ecco wasn't that much smaller than them? They could switch clothes and still fit in the others'. What would the harm be if Ecco came with them to junior classes? Swinging their legs back and forth, Di'o thought on it more. If they left Ecco on her own, then who would make sure she got to all her classes? Who would help her with her homework? Of course they couldn't leave Ecco behind! The teacher might have made a bit of sense when they were talking, but now that Di'o had a chance to think about it, it was obvious that they'd just have to help Ecco out the same way that she'd helped them out! Di'o had to be a good friend.
Mind made up, Di'o went to go ask their mother if they could have Ecco stay with them. That way they could make sure Ecco grew up faster so she wouldn't be left behind.
