Duskpaw had mouthful of lamb's ear, mint, and other assortments of herbs. She was headed back to donate the herbs to the med cat den, hunting hadn't been successful today, too many cats out and about scouring the forest and the birds had taken roost in the higher branches. She was a little put out, since the successful hunt in front of the she-cat, Skysong, it had been failure after failure. She huffed, she knew the answer to her failed hunting. She was a grounded bird, she had landed wrong on a paw. She was able to keep hunting so long as she didn't climb trees or sprain it further.
She didn't have a noticeable limp and she would try not to show it if she had one because she was afraid looking like she couldn't help the clan hunt, plus there was no qualified med cat to see to it anyway. She padded her way into camp carefully and made her way towards the med cat den. She hadn't been listening much to the other cats gossip as she didn't need to hear them squawking at one another like a pair of jays. She entered the den to place the herbs, she hadn't noticed her previous donations were missing from the front. She never did venture farther than the mouth of the med cats den. Not since she was an apprentice.

Littlepaw, newly anointed medicine-cat apprentice, had been spending pretty much her entire time in the medicine-cat den. Cleaning was almost done, but rearranging the herbs in a system that suited her was its own tricky business. Dovetail's organizing system had been clean and concise, yes, but it didn't fit Littlepaw; the thing was, she wasn't sure what fit her. That and the past few days had been interrupted by those congratulating her here and there. It was a rather busy time for the small paw.
The sound of rustling was a common alert for Littlepaw. She instantly popped her head out, assessing if she was either needed to speak or had to help the cat. Instead, the answer was neither; they had herbs. Littlepaw perked up, slipping free from the den to address the cat.
"Oh! Duskwing! What brings you here?"

Duskwing nearly jumped out of her fur, she startled enough jump a bit in the air. The landing was fine, but her sprained paw was sending pain signals from the rough treatment. She wasn't expecting a voice from inside the den as she thought it was still unoccupied. She quickly looked up with her heart still racing from the shock to see the multi colored apprentice. She sighed with relief that it was Littlepaw and relaxed some.
"Oh Hello little one, Just bringing in some bird feed for the medicine cat nest." Her lips tipped up in a smile. It was a running joke for her and her siblings to herbs bird feed. She gingerly sat down as her back paw was starting to hurt now from just standing on it. "What brings you out to the medicine cat nest little one?" She was curious as to why the little she-cat would be here. She didn't look like she was hurt other than a little malnourished she looked perfectly healthy.

Littlepaw winced as Duskwing jumped. Okay, she could have been more careful with her introduction. Littlepaw offered a sympathetic smile towards Duskwing when they noticed her, settling slowly onto her haunches. Poor Dusk. However, at their question her nose wrinkled in confusion, head cocking to the side.
Did they not know?
Now that she thought about it, the announcement had been sudden. Her running to her father moments after Sunclan chose her had been abrupt and during a few patrols. Word didn't spread easy these days, especially when everyone was more interested in keeping their nose to the ground and hunting non-stop. Her eyes snapped to one of Duskwing's legs as they seemed to shift their weight, flicking them back up to the she-cat.
"Sunclan appointed me the new medicine-cat apprentice," she mewled, unable to hide the tiny amount of glee in her voice. She cleared her throat, nervously glancing down at the herbs.
"I was just about to gather herbs, thank you. Is that all that brings you here, or...?"

Duskwing ears perk up upon hearing that Littlepaw is now the Medicine cat apprentice. She tried to put weight on her front paws to stand up to congratulate the little she-cat, but her left front paw finally protested enough with pain that she winced hard enough to be seen. Stealing herself to try and not bring too much attention to it she instead grinned at Littlepaw letting the little she-cat bask in her own glory. "Thats incredible Little one! I'm glad you finally found your place among the flock! She was so happy for the little apprentice! "Sunseer must be so proud that his little chick has such an important job."
She thought about it Littlepaws leading question and considered telling her about her sprained paw, but so many others could probably use those herbs and the, newly appointed, medicine cat apprentice's time. She knew that she probably only needed a bit of rest and maybe some chewed marigold, at least that's what she remembered most of the care many of the cats gave to the hunting cats that had sprains. She flicked her tail indecisive thought. She could get looked over and heal quicker, but what if another cat should need assistance. She paused her thinking and looked up to Littlepaw and decided to try and brush it off. It didn't hurt so long as she stayed still. Smiling at the little she-cat she shook her head at her offered hint of knowing. No, Just bring the herbs, It just wasn't a very successful hunt so I think I'll duck back into my nest of feathers and roost for a bit."
As she made to stand her left front paw crumpled under her weight and in the shock of the moment she fell quickly onto her left side. She smiled sheepishly at Littlepaw as she righted herself. She knew she was caught trying to bluff her way off. She huffed out a sigh and didn't even try to hide that she'd hurt her paw anymore. "I might need something for my paw, I don't think the earlier excitement did me any favors." She moved her slightly swollen left paw for Littlepaw to have a look at. The swelling was mostly concentrated around the joint.

Littlepaw smiled at the congratulations, ears flicking upwards. Was her father proud? Oh, she hoped so! They didn't spend much time together but... something about making her farther, who had suffered plenty, would look upon her proudly made her heart warm. However, that wince had been enough for Littlepaw to snap her head to the side, visibly concerned.
Duskwing began to leave just as Littlepaw was about to speak, her eyes locked on the older cat. It was when Duskwing fell that she let out a soft gasp; she had been right! The apprentice jumped to Duskwing's side, tail flicking side to side in thought as the limb was exposed.
"Oh wow, it's pretty swollen..." she mewled, sympathetically glancing at Duskwing. Her eyes sharply narrowed, her normally gentle nature shifting into something stronger. Something about to lecture the bird loving cat.
"Duskwing. You can't hide these sort of things -- what if we were attacked? You wouldn't be able to defend yourself. Don't put that extra burden on yourself." Her nose scrunched up as she shifted her weight paw to paw. Elder leaves for the sprain would be good, and marigold for the swelling. Her head raised, a firm nod following. She got this!
"I'm going to mix elder leaves and marigold into a poultice for you. Would you like to help with the elder leaves?"

Duskwing's ears flattened back as she's scolded. She knew it wasn't a good idea to hide the sprain, but with the current state of the clan she'd figured that there would be other cats with more urgent problems. "I didn't want to cause anyone trouble." she spoke softly while looking at the ground. She really hadn't thought of if they had been attacked, she'd only thought of how an injured cat would look to the other clan members.
Her ears perked as the small she-cat asked for her help. "Of course. What do I need to do little one?" she looked at the apprentice expectantly for direction. It'd been a long time since she'd spent time in the med cat's den she knew the basics, but she didn't know much beyond that, as her rather short dream of being a med cat was cut short with the death of her parents and consequently buried when she found she could hunt in a way no other cat had tried to do.
