The morning was quiet, the sun still having yet to rise and a chill still hovering in the air of the caverns, ready to n** at unprotected noses and toeses- and to wake chilled cubs that had rolled too far from their mothers in their sleep, such as Kaksi. Her fur was not the only thing blue by the time the cub woke, shivering, to scoot back next to Gur, tucking her paws under her chest as she buried her face in her mother's warm, soft coat to fend off the cold, still too young to come to terms with an early morning.
Not too young, however, to stave off curiosity. She had almost drifted back off to sleep, snuggled close to Gur's warmth, when strange whispers tickled her ear. At first, the young cub simply twitched her ear to rid herself of the pesky whispers, but when this did not work, Kaksi was soon wide awake, ears perked as she squinted into the darkness of the caverns from where the whispers came- something not-right and new both, and something that surely warranted investigation.
Pushing herself to her paws, Kaksi stretched her stiff legs, yawning as she peeked at her mother- still asleep, good- sisters still asleep, too, bad. Making a face, the cub quickly gave up waking Eins, she might as well be a rock, but San- San was a different story. Tip-toeing over to her slumbering sister, Kaksi prodded the grey cub insistently, "Hey! Pssssst, hey! Wake up already!" She hissed, putting the weird disembodied voices in the dark to shame with her hissed insistence.
