Goldenleaf was searching for a certain cat, and with intensity. She already had been stopped by a few clan-members to ask if she was alright. Her paws hit the ground heavily as she licked her teeth against the taste of the foul medicine Littlepaw had given her.
Then she spotted him.
"Bloodoath!" Goldenleaf called out to the handsome male, cheeks heating. She hadn't exactly spoken to him much after that evening, although it was only due to how hard the clan was working them to find food. She was sure this was a terrible conversation to have right after such a nice evening, but... it had to be had.

Hunted.... he felt... hunted... Out in the openness of the sky he never worried so much, just look up and you could see miles.... but in this moment the fur along his spine was tingling. He had gone out to try and find something... anything for the clan. But he was headed back, empty pawed.
It wasnt long until he figured out why... he was being hunted... by a she cat. He relaxed seeing Goldenleaf and greeted her with a raise of his tail and a flick of his ear. "GoldenLeaf!" He replied easily and came to sit in front of her. "Going out hunting? I was just up by the fallen trees... No prey... no scent even... seems like they are long gone from that area... I was gonna take a small nap and then head back out... try by the riverbed... I know its dry but maybe something is hoping for water as much as we are...." He looked tired, he had been going out a lot taking on double patrols since he was healthier than some of the others, but his frame was waining and he was getting leaner. But as busy as he was he was happy to take a moment to spend with Goldenleaf. "Sadly...i doubt its gonna be a fish i bring back today.... " But he would find something... even if he had to dig for worms... he would bring something back to the clan today.
Blinking he tipped his head. "Were you looking for me?"

Goldenleaf wished she had the mindset to enjoy the conversation. It was a normalcy she desperately wanted to enjoy, but right now she had another thing to deal with. She cracked a smile, head shaking gently.
"Fish was a brief luxury. I don't expect it anytime soon during this famine." Her nose scrunched as she remembered how delicate the fish had been. Delicious, soft, and moist... oh, now she really wished the river was back. How she missed having fish daily.
Really, it was fish that got her in this situation.
She had to mentally hiss at herself for that accusation. Dodging blame was idiotic -- she had made her choice and it was on her for making it, fish or not. Inhaling sharply, Goldenleaf sent him a glance that clearly read 'this is private', head nodding to the side.
"Can I... talk to you? Real quick? There's something I need to tell you, but I rather not in the open."

Bloodoath flicked an ear feeling anxiety or.... stress... or something... wash off the shecat. Where was the easy going she cat who was all too quick with a joke? He flicked his tail and nodded. "Well... definitely something to keep an eye out for... if they grow legs and breath air any time soon... then maybe ill find another." He tried to raise the mood but Goldenleaf was determined to be stressed so he put on a serious face.
Yep... completely the fish... Not the insistent tom cat pushing his luck.
He read the look and tipped his head curiously. Were the shecats courting him now? So much for the idea of a nap... but this could be more enjoyable.. It could work as a pick me up right? He stretched, "Alright!" He headed to a more private area, he moved closer to her. "So! You wanted to..." His voice lowered into a seductive tremor. "talk.... was it?" He rubbed against her, It was all an elaborate way to get some alone time right? What else could it be.

She should have known what he would think this was. Her nose wrinkled as a way of nausea hit her. Surely it wasn't Bloodoath himself who upset her stomach? No, but the mere idea of rolling around right now made her feel sick to her stomach. She shook her head, paw raising and gently pushing his head back.
"Bloodoath!" Okay, so now that she looked back on how all this began... it made sense why he'd behave the way he was. Her tongue clicked, head shaking as she stepped back from him and his sultry voice. As tempting as it was, there were other matters at their paws.
"I meant a real talk, not..." she trailed off; that didn't need to be a full sentence. "I've been feeling unwell as of late. Sickness runs in the clan, so I took to Littlepaw. Do you know what she told me?"

Bloodoath blinked as he had one delicate paw on his head. He sat back. With a gentle and sincere look he looked at her worried. "Are you ok Goldenleaf?" He may be imagining it but she looked a bit green around the gills.
He frowned at the real talk but nodded and sat listening, a serious face for sure... "I thought you looked a little... off.... Are you sick?" He let her finish. He gave her a curious look. Why was she telling him? Was she worried she had gotten him sick as well? "Its ok Golden... if you think you gave it to me too... Ive been feeling fine." He narrowed his eyes and looked her over. "But what is it? Is there anything i can do?"
He lashed his tail now worried about goldenleaf. Maybe not mates but he cared about her and didnt want anything bad to happen to her.

Her heart melted at the concern he offered, ears flipping down. No, she didn't feel okay, but maybe she could be with the support of her clan. She hoped so.
"No, I know I didn't give it to you, but you're involved almost as much as I am," she paused, eyes narrowing. That wasn't inherently true, yet. Bloodoath could decide to keep his identity a secret and leave the kit raising to Goldenleaf. It wasn't like that didn't happen, anyway, and Goldenleaf had no interest in outing him to the clan if he didn't want to be known.
"I mean, it's your choice in the end, and I'll respect any you make. The other day... you and I, well--" she knew he didn't need reminding. "I went to Littlepaw and we discovered I'm expecting kits." A pause began before, abruptly, she added; "Your kits. You're the only one I.... so they're ours."

He didnt like her looking worried and sad. He could tell that from this one moment. but he listened. "I am?" That was pretty much all it took for Bloodoath to put dots together... not contagious but he was involved and after what they did well... it was to be expected. But the news came like falling in a cold river. He was going to be a father... how was he going to be a father... he couldnt feed the clan let alone add more mouths to feed. "I dont think...that its a good idea to have kits right now... so... how about we wait for... a few months... maybe after the drought breaks?" No it didnt make sense... but the words were coming out as his mind tried to work around what this all meant.... Goldenleaf was pregnant... Everyone was hungry... and thirsty... and she would be bringing kits into the world... his kits.... his heart melted a bit thinking of kits that looked just as pretty as their mother yet as strong as he was.
He licked her head between her ears. "You are going to make a great mother..." He however was terrified of the thought of being a father.... what if he was a bad father and they all turned out horrible... And then it occurred to him what she was asking. "Yeah... they are ours... and everyone should know im the lucky tom.... but im worried about you...." He made a note he would hunt extra hard to make sure she was fed... he would skip his meals if he had to....He gave her a look. "What... did you think i was going to demand you get rid of them or something... Starving clan or not... this is good news... and im not going to let anything touch you...." He moved closer to offer her comfort. "Its scary right now... but... together we will make it work... we are bringing in the next generation of warriors... " He rasped his tongue over her ear. Weather they were Mountainclan or sunclan... they would have to find out. But he didnt voice those thoughts.

She didn't offer him the shock she felt, instead keeping a plain face at his comment of it being a bad time. She couldn't blame him -- she had been in shock too when she found out. Instead, she waited for it to truly kick in, watching his face with interest and perhaps a mild dose of fear. Fear he'd lash out, fear he'd start accusing her. It wasn't in Bloodoath's nature, but her own pent up terror was showing it's ugly head. It didn't seem far off for him to abandon her while she felt this paranoia.
An eye closed as he licked her head, a faint rumble of relief making it's way into a brief purr. Her head shook, ears flattening. She wasn't sure what she expected of him, honestly. It was such a bad time to have kits...
"I was mostly afraid you'd be angry, I suppose. I wouldn't have gotten rid of them even if I knew how... but... I suppose I didn't know what to expect." She welcomed the touches, allowing his attempt at comfort to work for the moment. She didn't know what would happen later. If she'd survive, if the kits would... if they even would share a clan together in the end. Goldenleaf had been considering for ages just leaving. The panic in her bones couldn't be ignored much longer. Mountain Clan was starving and this wasn't home anymore. But travel right now? It seemed ridiculous now that she had kits.
"Do you think they'll make it?"

He eventually got over his shock and started thinking again. He was grateful for her patience. His face was an open book, easy to read and what was written there went, confusion, acknowledgement, fear, horror, warmth, affection, softness, and then happiness and pride.
It really was a bad time though. He would need to go hunting more often to make sure that she was fed. He was a better fighter than hunter... he spent most his time running off predators instead of hunting when he had a choice, but really that wasnt much of a choice recently.
"Oh Goldenleaf, Im so sorry you worried about me... The last thing i want is to cause you more worry and anxiety. You must be terrified... " He looked at her with a worried look but then purred. "If you had thought to get rid of them you wouldnt be the cat im so fond of." He would go with her if she left. He loved his home... but he valued life more than a location. But then her real fear showed its face and he offered his shoulder as a support.
"Of course they will... " He purred and nudged her chin lightly. "Even if i have to go and tell sunclan myself that they cant have them..." the tone of his voice was a promise. He wouldnt let them die... "And its gonna be an easy birth... and you are going be the mother of strong healthy warriors!" He purred affectionately. While he didnt love the she cat as one would love a mate... he did care deeply for her... in that they were going to be parents together.

Forced to look up, Goldenleaf caught his gaze, holding it. The terror was absolute in her eyes, but relief also joined her expression as he spoke. She was going to be a mother. It was never something she had considered, but now that it was happening she wanted those kits. She wanted to watch them grow and witness their first steps. Wanted to nudge them forward and accept their warrior names. It was suffocating how much she longed for them all to survive, even. Her throat tightened at the prospect of a little of healthy children who would one day become fierce warriors.
"Maybe they'll have your teeth," she murmured absently, eyes flicking to view said teeth. They made eating harder, sure, but they were excellent weapons. Her eyes seemed to lift as a smile began to creep onto her face.
"What little monsters they'll be. I'm sure they'll give me a nasty bite or two while feeding."

Bloodoath wanted those things for her and he wanted them for himself, but even more he wanted to see them be turned to apprentices.. grow into strong cats and be stronger warriors. But right now... healthy... and alive... he would take that.... He was purring contentedly, but only realized that when it stopped. "Sunclan I hope not.... " They were good as a weapon if used right but while growing up and leaning to use them... he had almost broken them much too many times.
"If they do.... They will have me to teach them how to use them though... so they will be fine... Better than me even!" Pride sounded in his voice but then he smiled. "Yes... our bunch of little monsters... " He licked her ear. "Thank you Goldenleaf... for giving me kits...." He purred again. But their moment was ending and soon life was going to come back and interrupt.
(Think we can end there ^^)
