 Dustfeather's strength, or so his mentor had told him, had been hunting. He got all the techniques down, but once the crisis started to make itself present within the Clan, he found that he was able to use his techniques in the Clan less and less. In fact, when it was time for his assessment to come around, he wasn't even able to catch anything because the lack of prey was so apparent. He suspects he only got a pass on his assessment because he got his hunting positions right.
So these days, as he watched his Clanmates go from muscular to lean to downright skinny, he couldn't help but feel partially responsible. He went out hunting every day, but he rarely came back with anything. Now they knew at least why this was happening: the Twolegs had stolen their river, but that didn't mean that it wasn't difficult for him to work with. As it was, SunClan still hadn't told them anything, Sunseer hadn't changed their routine and cats still had to be fed.
When he woke up that morning, he went straight for the entrance, like he usually did, but this time, he stopped. He looked out of the entrance, a despondent look on his face and he sighed.
Maybe I should try to collect moss for bedding. Maybe it's not the shortage of the prey, maybe I'm just not as great of a hunter as Mellowstep thought.

 Goldenleaf wasn't any more observant than the average cat, but she had long ago spotted Dustfeather's insecurities. Perhaps it was because it reminded her of her own issues when she freshly became a warrior. Maybe she was just most empathetic than she thought. Either way, it had been on her mind for awhile. The clan wouldn't thrive off someone still insecure in their own strength, after all. True power came from oneself, and if Dustfeather wanted to overcome whatever it was that drew their face long and help the clan... well, they'd need to face it.
So, when she spotted a particular cat on her search for a hunting partner Goldenleaf zeroed in on the cat, padding straight to them with intent in her steps.
"Dustfeather," she mewled, giving a flick of her tail in greeting towards the tan cat. "I need a partner for hunting, care to join?"

Dustfeather looked up with a start when he heard a voice beside him and he blinked his green eyes at Goldenleaf. She was certainly a beauty, there was no doubt about it and his fur fluffed up in embarrassment that she would be looking to invite him out hunting. It was sometimes worse to bring back no prey when there were others around. But...
"Y-Yes. I'd like that." He replied with a small smile. "Shall we go beyond the borders or just within them, do you suppose?" He asked her.

Golden eyes blinked back as she examined him, noting his slender frame. He wasn't past the point of return, like some of their clanmates, which meant he was perfectly fit for the task. Excellent. She closed her eyes briefly in agreement with his approval, already beginning to pad off for him to follow.
"Inside the border. While I'd love to test outside lands, the two-legs shenanigans have me nervous. We should stay close to home." She really didn't want to stumble upon a two-leg and end up in a nasty situation right now. She wasn't even sure she was strong enough in her current state to fight off something substantially bigger than her, although she was sure she'd give them a show.

Dustfeather nodded at Goldenleaf when she said that they ought to stay within their borders. He could only hope that the Twolegs would be content to stealing their river and not come for the trees or mountains of their camp. He liked to think that they would have no use for the camp, what with the river being dry and the prey being gone, but then again, he couldn't have thought why the Twolegs would come and take the river, either. Maybe they were just aiming for the destruction of all things, no matter what it was!
He shuddered at the thoughts that began to swirl around in his head, but tried to focus on the not so distant future.
"Let's head out." He mewed to Goldenleaf and set out. He perked his ears and opened his mouth slightly to taste any prey scents that were nearby. Great SunClan, let them bring something home!

She confirmed with a low hum, picking up the pace. She had the exact same goal as him; feed the clan. She didn't offer much talk throughout their walk, mostly intent to keep quiet and swift to avoid being detected by prey. However, once they met the nearest clearing she pulled him aside, delicately jerking her head to the side.
"Lets split up here and each find something to track. If you see something rather large, like larger than a rabbit, come nab me and we can try together. Deal?" belloblossom Our list!

Dustfeather wasn't sure whether he ought to say something during their hunting outing or not, but in the end, the decision was made for him. He nodded his agreement when Goldenleaf suggested that they split up. He doubted he'd see anything larger than a rabbit. It felt like moons since they'd seen a hawk around their territory. He sighed. He'd do anything to bring something that large back to the Clan. The thought of seeing his Clanmates happy faces and knowing their bellies were full always fueled him forward.
"Alright." He mewed and set off in hopes of finding something. He would take anything at this point.

Goldenleaf didn't expect to find something so quick, honestly. Prey had been scarce and she hadn't had a chance in the past few days to sweep anything bigger than a bug up. Lucky for her a mouse scurried out from a nearby bush, abruptly turning into a different direction when it noted her. Goldenleaf, while weaker than usual, was not about to let this chance get by her.
"Wait up, you little squeaker," she hissed under her breath, dropping into a lower crouch as she stalked after the rodent. belloblossom Rolling for what Golden sees! RNG 1-6 in your post to see what Dust finds! I rolled here and then edited my post to incorporate the mouse

Dustfeather wasn't sure what he would find, if he was honest. The ground under his paws was dusty. It seemed like everything was wilted, from the forest to the cats within it, thanks to the river being gone. Maybe SunClan would see fit to pass some rain their way. Would rain bring at least some of the prey back, if only for a while? Rain usually came with leaf-fall and occasionally new-leaf, but now... He wasn't sure when they would get it next.
He wasn't scenting anything on the ground and his stomach was hollow, much like his mood as he grew progressively less hopeful. He was staring at the ground more than the grass ahead of him, but it was because of this that he saw the shadow pass over him. He froze and stared up as he watched the hawk fly up into a tree nearby. His fur raised apprehensively. Something that size could feed the Clan! His eyes became round, but he turned away and padded back towards where he had split ways with Goldenleaf. This was a two-cat job and he could only pray that the hawk would stay in that tree and not move on while he was fetching his Clanmate.

Goldenleaf crouched low when the mouse had stopped for a moment, eyes narrowing sharply as she used the grass for cover. Timing was everything, and as she watched every twitch and sniff the mouse made she waited patiently.
And then the right moment showed itself.
The mouse, lost in its own interests, lowered its head to inspect a fallen nut. Goldenleaf leapt, claws out and ears flat. She landed, nails digging where she knew the mouse was and mouth darting down to crush their neck when -
It wasn't there. She snorted in frustration, head snapping back as she sat upright. She knew she had been too slow. Her muscles ached from the lack of nutrients and her brain felt foggy from countless nights wasted tossing and turning. It made sense why the mouse had escaped, and yet she couldn't stop herself from bitterly and hatefully scowling at herself.
She screwed up.
Ears flat, the she-cat turned where she had come from, padding off towards where she had seen her hunting partner last. It didn't take long to notice him, although she kept her paws light and presence small as she slipped to his side.
"I lost a mouse. Did you find something?" she whispered, not yet noting the creature he was staring at.belloblossom Rolling for if Golden gets mouse;
