It still hadn't quite sunk in by the time Jack had made it home late late that night. Far later than she would usually have been out. It made her nervous as she slowly let herself into the giant house and crept her way up the stairs towards her room. It was large enough it seemed like every time noise echoed, but that was probably all in her head. Once she had the heavy door closed behind her she let out a relieved sigh as she sagged back against it.

"What a night..." Suddenly exhausted, Jack slid down the door until she was sitting on the floor with her back against it. Everything sort of low key hurt. Except for her arm. She brought it up to look down at the double puncture points, fingers brushing the edges of one hole gingerly. "I really hope that thing's poison isn't like, delayed or anything." How even did you explain that to a hospital? Hi, I was bit by a youma with fangs, and I dunno if it's poisonous or not, but would you happen to have an antivenom? She thought not.

She supposed she'd see how it was doing in the morning, but what was she supposed to do until then? Tired as she was, she wasn't sure if she'd be able to sleep just yet. She felt exhausted, but buzzed. Fingertips tingling and head reeling.

Chewing on her lower lip she dug her phone out of her pocket and poked at the screen to pull up the home screen. From there she tapped over to her recent calls and scrolled. I wonder if she's still...is that her? It was an unknown number from late on the evening she'd been attacked by that first youma. The night Altias had come swooping out of nowhere to save her life, getting hurt in the process.

Jack didn't have his number, but she had Fiona's, the girl they'd called in to help him. She said she was a senshi too, probably had been for a while. If there was anyone Jack could reach out to, she was it. Swallowing back nerves, the photographer tapped out a quick message to the other girl, quite sure that if she did hear back it wouldn't be until morning.

Quote:
Text to unknown number: Uh, hi. I don't know if you remember me, but I'm the girl that called you when Khaleel got hurt.

So, funny thing happened. I don't think I should text it, but I'd really like to talk to you when you're free. Please.

It had been a late night at the office, which wasn't anything particularly new, but it meant that Fiona hadn't gotten home until the dark of night had settled over the city. It also meant that tonight wasn't a good candidate for patrolling, which she had been doing less and less of as her civilian life gripped the reigns of things.

It took several minutes after arriving home and unpacking her things onto the kitchen counter before she realized she had a text message. It was from a number she didn't recognize, which could have potentially been alarming depending on the contents and she stopped what she was doing to unlock the phone and read the full contents.

It took a bit of remembering to place the girl's face with the incident but a figurative light bulb lit over her head.

She didn't wait to type a message back.

[Text to Unknown: I can be free right now, do you want to meet somewhere or do you want to call?]

It wasn't an immediate answer, and when her phone buzzed against Jack startled before fumbling to unlock the thing so she could the text from Fiona. With it came a wave of relief and the girl took just a second to count her blessings for the the good that had come from her meeting with Khaleel and Fiona. Because who else would she have reached out for now, if not for either of them?

Scrubbing at her cheek with the heel of one hand she sent back another text.

[Text to Unknown: I don't want to be a bother, but maybe we could meet up.

Could you bring your first aid kit again, too?]

She hit send, then stared down at the screen, waiting for a response.

It didn't matter that she'd just gotten home, when she'd gotten the second text she was already gathering up her things and preparing to head straight back out. The first aid kit was tucked into her car, but she still crossed into the wing she'd had built on to grab a few things that she thought might need restocking.

They were shoved into her purse and she was sliding it over her shoulder and heading to her car as she typed a text back.

[Text to Unknown: You got it, where do you want me to meet you? ]

The message was sent and she began double checking her kit and putting the replenishable supplies in it.

[Text to Unknown: My place maybe, unless it's too far.]

Jack pulled up the address to the big house on Google Maps and shared it with Fiona, then finally pushed herself back to her feet to cross the room to her desk so she could pull the chair out and take a seat. The bed would have been more comfortable, but she was afraid she'd fall asleep if she laid down.

It was tempting though. So very tempting. Now that the fight was over and Faust was gone the world seemed to be returning to it's normal speed, and Jack felt the weight of exhaustion pressing down on her.

Once Fiona had the address, she put it into her phone's GPS and once she'd gotten an estimated travel time, she'd let Jack know and embarked that way. It took at least seventeen minutes to get from her place to the girls and she pulled up along the curb, lights dimming when she shot her a text.

[Text to Unknown: I'm here, should I come inside or...?]

She didn't know what kind of living situation Jack had and so she killed the engine, slipped out of the car and moved towards the other side so she could either reassure the girl that it was her when she opened the door or, if she was to be invited inside she could grab the first aid bag and cross to the door.

Her phone bugged again, and Jack almost cried with relief. She was so tired already, she really hadn't wanted to go back out because she just didn't trust she'd be able to drive safely at the moment. Thankfully Fiona was coming to her. She'd help patch up her arm, and Jack would be able to talk to her about what had just happened.

Wow, maybe she really was going to cry.

Wiping away the tears welling in her eyes, Jack got up again and changed out of the dirty clothing she'd had on and into a pair of soft shorts and a baggy t-shirt, then she waited.

When the text came to let her know Fiona had arrived she all but sprinted for the door, bare feet nearly silent on the hardwood floors and stairs as she hurried down to open the large front door of the giant house she shared with six other people.

"H-hi." The cement beneath her toes as she walked out onto the large porch was cool, but it didn't stop her from continuing forward until she was halfway down the front stairs to meet her. "Thank you for coming. I know it's really late, and I don't know if I woke you up or what, but I just didn't..I mean..." She trailed off, voice getting thick as she twisted her hands in the front of the t-shirt and new tears burned at the corners of her eyes. "I just didn't know who else to reach out to."

Getting out of the car had been the right decision and Fiona knew that upon seeing the girl. The bag had been pulled out of her car, slung over her shoulder when she went to meet Jack at least halfway. "It's okay," she reassured her with a soft, kind smile.

"I was awake, you're not a bother at all." Fiona's instincts had her stepping closer to the girl and she reached to gently place her hand on her shoulder. "I'm glad you called." And she was, because there was something about knowing that her companion felt safe enough to reach out after something happened.

"Are you okay?" Mismatched eyes swept over the girl's form and she didn't see anything immediately that needed attention but she didn't know what might have been covered up.

She was trying really hard not to just fall apart right there and the stairs as she watched Fiona coming towards her and it took every fiber of her being not to just throw herself into the arms of this relative stranger. It was all just sort of sinking in now. And maybe it was because enough time had passed after the fact, or maybe it was because she was talking to someone about it beside the guardian cat that had been a part of it. Jack didn't know, and really it didn't matter.

She sniffed, lips pressed together to keep from quivering before she managed to take a few steadying breaths. calming herself enough to give a weak, gracious smile. "I really appreciate it."

At the prompting Jack looked down at her left arm, held it up and peeled away the hap-hazardously applied gauze pad so Fiona could see the two relatively neat puncture wounds in her forearm. They were still bleeding, but it was a lot slower now. "It was another one of those things, those youma? It-it bit me."

Jack opened her mouth to say more then closed it as she glanced back over her shoulder into the spacious foyer, then back at Fiona. "Maybe we should go inside."

She remembered what it was like to be thrust into things without understanding what was happening. Fiona didn't have what Jack had right now, someone she felt like she could call and maybe rely on for some help.

That had been so many years ago and if she could help it, the ginger didn't want anyone ending up feeling helpless and lost like she had back then.

"If we stick together, these things don't seem as scary," she told the girl, distracted by the peeling gauze that blue and green eyes fixed upon. Her hand moved from shoulder to wrist to keep her arm steady before she gently pressed against the skin against the bite to see how it felt to the touch.

"Right," she mumbled, still distracted but looking up now. "Lead the way."

She kept her arm really still so Fiona could look at it, even when gently pressing fingers made her wince. Having the bite cleaned wasn't going to be fun, but she'd feel better for having Fiona look it over and dress it. Less chance of it getting infected later, or Jack missing something concerning that'd require more than just a simple first aid patch up.

As the ginger let her go she'd turn to open the door to let them both into the large mansion and lead the way across the foyer towards the winding staircase. "I just moved in and I don't wanna risk annoying my roommates, so we gotta be kinda quiet," she murmured softly as they reached the upstairs hall that led to most of the rooms.

Her door was open still and she ushered Fiona inside. There was a queen sized bed tucked up against the wall beneath a big window, a desk perpendicular to that served as bedside table. Opposite that was a dresser with a mirror hanging on the wall behind it. It still looked a little sparse, but there were a few boxes still waiting to be unpacked stacked beside the desk.

She closed the door behind them and headed in to take a seat on the edge of the edge of the bed, reaching out to grab the henshin pen that had been sitting on the comforter. "So, also tonight, I met a-a cat, and he gave me this." She held it up, hoping Fiona would know what it was and what that meant.

"I can do quiet," Fiona replied, careful to keep her steps quiet to not disturb the other inhabitants of the house.

If Jack had given her time, she would have removed her shoes to help with the risk, but at least she'd had the foresight to wear flats instead of heels and years of sneaking around as a magical super hero had her ensuring that her footfalls were quiet at the least.

Once inside the young woman's room she waited patiently to be told where to sit, or in this case, she waited for Jack to sit before she took up the space beside her, already rifling through the bag she'd brought.

Her attention was received when the henshi pen was produced and she turned towards Jack, reaching for her hand carefully. "It's a henshi pen," she hesitated and then decided it didn't matter, "I have one too, mine looks differently because we're different...ranks if you would. What did the cat tell you?"

"I thought maybe you might. Or at least I hoped you did. I never got Khaleel's number, and I remember you mentioning something..." She trailed, turning the pen in her hands. Having Fiona there helped. Knowing that she wasn't alone in this, and wasn't crazy.

"He said I was a senshi, that my name is Sailor Phoebe of euphoria." Her thumb slid along the edge of the pen. "That I'm supposed to be a soldier, and that I have a responsibility to keep the people of this city safe."

Jack sighed as she looked up at the redhead. "I'm not a soldier. I beat the snake thing that attacked me, but I don't know...how to do this."

She wasn't a fighter. She didn't even believe in violence and didn't have the first clue how to fight or even defend. "It feels like someone made a mistake."

"Khaleel doesn't always think things through," Fiona replied, nothing but fondness in her voice for her dear friend.

"You...you don't have to be a soldier if you don't want to," she said carefully, wondering who the cat was and how they handled things. At the very least, she was grateful that the cat hadn't run off on Jack like the one who'd awakened her had. "We're not exactly soldiers anyway, soldiers imply that we're a military, that we have a chain of command that we follow."

Her nose wrinkled.

"There are royal-ranked senshi, but it's not--they're not in charge. You don't have to follow anyone you don't want to." Choices were important to stress in Fiona's opinion. "There's a lot of scary things out there that you might be in a position to fight," she said, carefully gathering one of the girl's hands in hers. "But you don't have to. It's not a mistake, that you were given this pen and you don't have to go about things alone, I promise. But you don't need to feel obligated. It's a choice, whether you take this pen and use it or not. Don't let anyone try to make you feel like you don't have the agency."

"How, uh. How's he doing?" Last she'd seen him he was laying in the back of Fiona's car with the front of his shirt soaked through with blood. She should have asked about him earlier, but with everything else going on...

She bit her lip, attention down on her lap as Fiona tried to reassure her, and that's when she remembered the bite on her arm slowly oozing blood. It was starting to slid down the side of her arm again and she bit back a word that more than likely wouldn't have been a curse as she lifted her arm and cupped her hand beneath it to catch a drop of blood before it fell on her lap or the bed they were sitting on.

Then she sighed, shoulders sagging as she looked up at Fiona again. It wasn't a mistake. "I won't be alone?" That was what scared her the most about this, she thought. That t seemed to mean a lot of walking around on her own in the dark, looking for trouble. She didn't even like walking to her car across a parking lot at night, and had to fight back anxiety every time she lost track of time.
