The walk was short, but the journey long — from deep in Negaspace's distant desolation came the curious, otherworldly item, procured with steadfast assistance from Tourmaline, and now it sat broken in his hand. The magic of the glove bracelet gone, he imagined that poor fate had nothing to do with the partial landslide as part of the Academy's cavity shifted and everything to do with the dull passing of a thousand years; perhaps the artifact's uselessness was effected by Kholat Syakhl's lack of active knight. But, in a realm where the Negaverse claimed dominion over science and magic, many such setbacks could be fixed.

Said setbacks just involved enlistment of the Negaverse's Mauvians. He wound through the halls, the bracelet clutched tight in one hand, and navigated the cavernous spaces down to the Mau Headquarters in the Citadel's bowels. There, cats kept pillows and tech galore, enlisting lowly lieutenants at need to execute the opposable-thumbs grunt work that fell beneath Mauvian paygrade. Likely the captain would find Tiberius if the cat hadn't been put to work by Schörl, and perhaps a smattering of other cats passing through or executing projects.

The familiar metal door stood tall with its black star prominent, the fixture as much a symbol of the Mauvians as a declaration of Negaverse conquests. As a captain, he had no access — he could only entreat the Mau within for entry. He rapped knuckles on the door, then spoke his intent as if it would glean him entry.

"We found something that will suit Negaverse purposes. I'll explain if you let me in." He waited, shoulder against the heavy black door, and watched the floor as he counted the seconds. What a bother that he couldn't hear feline movements, that he had to trust in technology to pick up his voice and project it through speakers to the inaccessible room's occupants.

Mauvian HQ was a glorious place to be - none of the plebs could stomp in unless invited, the higher ranks rarely dropped by unless they needed something, it was full of pillows and tech, and he could human safely there if he needed to take care of some delicate s**t.

Tom he was, Tom Thumb he was not, Tiberius was perched at a workstation on one of the largest pillows as he went meticulously through lines of code with a rubber duck. A voice through the door set first one and then the another ear swivelling 'round. Heeeey, I know that snooty-booty voice~. Temptation to troll warred with genuine interest - a new project? Could be sweet!

Abandoning his project with a quick save, Tiberius went to greet their invader, door opening with a pneumatic whoosh. Ah, yes. He'd been correct - it was his favorite half-youma. "Whatcha got, Smokestack?" He threaded delicately around ornate boots, looking up. "In. In. Tell us aaaaalll about it.."

Us included a diminutive white kitten in a studded collar and blue-green googles that had been tucked away in chair with her tablet open before her and half narrowed eyes roving back and forth across the information she was slowly scrolling through. At a glance, the Negaverse database.

She lifted her head when she heard the knock, curiosity perking pointed ears before movement to the side drew her gaze to the large male that sauntered over to open the door. Reven didn't know the captain that appeared on the other side of it, nor the mau that wove his way between intricate boots. Not surprising, given Reven didn't know much of panyone just yet, but she was working on rectifying that little by little.

With a curious hum the kitten closed her tablet and sent it away before hopping down from her perch to pad slowly towards the two in the doorway. Taking a seat before them she wrapped her tail around her toes and stared up expectantly. "What did you find?"

The pneumatic lock released, prompting the youma captain to straighten. He stepped inside at Tiberius' urgings, though he did not linger in one spot too long lest the overgrown feline decide to twine around his boots again. Mauvians were more often trip hazards than helpful, it seemed.

From subspace fell the item, dropping from air into his hand. It collapsed into a clump of vermeil metal with empty sockets for encrusting jewels, and the few tendrils off of it counted to a handful. He splayed it out in his palm, then hooked the offshoots onto his fingers and spread the palm for display. The glove bracelet looked like little more than an accessory for idle hands. He looked to the pair of attentive cats before explaining this ostensibly pointless find.

"A knight called Kholat Syakhl owned this artifact a thousand years ago. He used it to find people by their memories." His hand curled shut as Faustite looked to how the fixture sat on his hand. "He was a bounty hunter of sorts. His success rate is lost to time, but his weapon of choice isn't. Tourmaline and I found it in the Academy remains.

"It doesn't work anymore — not in these hands. As Mauvians, you're resourceful enough to restore alien technology. I want you to help me fix it so we can find the other lives of our Enemy."
Faustite stripped the ancient relic from his hand, the bronze intricacies pooling once more into his palm, and he set it on a sturdy workbench nearing other circuited anomalies. There, it looked utterly foreign against the minimalist, ultra-sleek surfaces and monitors and half-built technological advances that the Mauvians championed. It looked forgotten, austere, nearly backward in development.

But that was where they divided comfortably, he and the Mauvians — he handled the magic, they handled the technology.

Lace had come to retrieve something from the room when a captain popped out a weapon. The kitten, shy as usual quickly made her way to the panels where she could look for another senshi when the captain asked for help.

Because she was a bit smaller, she hopped up and touched a paw to the item.

"This looks familiar." She circled around it and touched it again, completely unaware of others.

A soft muurp left Enyo as she was roused from her nap. Someone had come? Looking to her fellow felines, the grey and white mauvian yawned, stretching out, claws raking into the soft carpeted texture of the improvised cat tree.
"Oh?" She looked to the man who entered, blinking at his appearance, fur quickly standing on end. He was most certainly not a human. Not entirely at any rate.

"Well." The man seemed to know what he wanted. If that was possible remained up for question however. Enyo was not the most technological, but she was logical and rather keen on the ebb and flow of things. "It seems we have a task for ourselves then. I am Enyo, and from Tiberius's actions you're not hostile towards us." She tilted her head, eyeing the agent warily.

"But if you seek us to fix what is broken, you must have an understanding that nothing comes without cost. And while I do so love to help, you don't plan to..." She motioned to his more youma attributes.
"Attempt anything do you? I rather like being left unmolested." Looking to the two kittens she sighed. "We do have little ones present, mind."

Being a gregarious sort, Tiberius was as friendly to the other Mauvians as they were with him - meaning, of course, that if they happened to wander into his orbit he'd chat 'em up - generally speaking he was interested in the others...he just didn't always remember to go introduce himself formally. Cats often became engrossed in their projects to the exclusion of all others, after all.

So he was a little surprised to see two kittens (one known, one not) and Enyo also up in what he felt was his space. When did this happen? and Nice crossed Tiberius' brain at the same time - the kittens were both very interested in what Smokestack had on offer. As was he.

"A dusty-a** Order relic? Count me in." Sauntering after his brother from another mother with his plumed tail held high and jaunty over the stripes on his back, Tiberius sniffed delicately at the air, catching whiffs of the most fascinating things from the reliquary on offer mixed with moondust, smoke, and herb. The remaining magic in the artifact tickled at his nose and brought out a sneeze during Enyo's wary speech.

"Chill, sister. This one's mine - he's trustworthy." Tiberius wasn't about to tell the dusty queen that Faustite was far more likely to gas one of them for being obnoxious than eat them, Enyo could find that one out for herself. "Payment should be something more...than just not harming us, fer chrissakes. This old s**t isn't easy, probably harder 'cause Chaos doesn't mix well with Order magic, even just on the tech-side."

He hopped up onto a workbench to better observe the item, brain already clicking and ticking along the processes that might be necessary - thumbs. Definitely. At least one of them was gonna have to human. Or maybe they'd just ask one of the bitty morons to do it, in case there was a backlash... "Smoked Salmon sounds good, don't it kiddos? This bougie boy can afford it. Get a nice meal outta him for our troubles, at least"

What the kitten wanted to do with the bracelet was up for question, but she seemed most motivated to begin. Faustite found no purpose in forestalling her — Mauvians often had different ideas about old technology than the humans who most often wielded them — and even if she accidentally damaged it, the artifact was already nonfunctional. Breaking it further mattered very little in its present functionality. Besides, she might finish the project before the remaining Mauvians finished posturing. Wouldn't that be a welcome burst of usefulness for their lot?

But he still had those posturing Maus to address. Faustite vented a slow sigh at the introduced Enyo's question. Slowly his gaze slipped to Tiberius, whom he lingered on thoughtfully, before swapping bak to the speaker. People don't eat cats, but I'm not a person. I could eat cats. I could eat Tiberius. He indulged in a faint smirk.

"Don't get ahead of yourself, Tiberius. I won't thank the worker for doing his job — what benefits us all is our own payment. Shortsighted 'rewards' like smoked salmon are for witless cats that prowl the street. I doubt a reward was what Enyo meant." Euphemisms and proverbs strayed toward purposely vague solely for their manipulation; why else would such phrases remain for so long in the English vernacular? What the cat truly meant was left up to question, but Faustite had his own expectations of how this splinter faction in the Negaverse should integrate. He looked to these comrades with a studious impatience before broaching the rest of Tiberius's interjections.

"I'll work with you on the project. Whatever you need within reason," he cast another sharp glance at the puffiest cat in the room.

"Better that I start with how it works. It's worn on the hand then palm-pressed to someone's starseed. The wearer then experiences some memory from the person they touched. Ritual and location mean much in magic; there must be some focal point in the palm piece." How to power it was another question he couldn't answer, however — he knew very little of what ceased its function in the first place. Was it time? Was it Kholat's corruption? Was it a matter of being worn on a human's hand and not a youma's? That was a question better expected of the cats.

i'm sorry, i completely spaced on adding the end result of the item! ultimately rift crystals being affixed to the item will be what restores power to it. originally it ran off the latent energy provided by kholat syakhl's wonder, and it functioned slightly differently / much more powerfully back then. now, the only way to get it to work is to attach rift crystals like capacitors even though it changes how the item functions a bit. and they don't hold a lot of energy, thus the stipulation of one scalped memory per rp per day.

i have no preference for who comes up with the idea of what works, so long as all the lovely maus get credit for their contribution!

The cats were coming out of the woodwork now that there was something there worse poking their noses at. Reven watched as two more guardians wandered over to investigate their guest and the item he'd brought for them to fix and teal eyes widened at the black kitten that jumped up on the work bench. Silk? No, it wasn't him, didn't sound like him. Definitely looked like him tough, so that meant it was probably the sister he'd mentioned to her.

The other older one she didn't know, but that wasn't surprising. Reven flicked an ear as she expressed concern for the lot of them, remaining unmolested, and little ones. Tail bristling, the kitten stalked forward to jump up on the table as well. "Hey, we're not that young." Her petulant protest certainly didn't help much.

But that was niether here nor there. They had a...a thing...to look at.

Brows drawn in, Reven took a seat close enough to the captain and his artifact to see well, but she was still pretty new to this guardian thing, and even seeing the details on the thing didn't make it easier to see how exactly they were supposed to make the thing work.

To her it almost sounded like some sort of hand held device. Except this one was hand worn. "Do you think it maybe runs on some kind of a power source to make the memories show up?" She was asking the other cats in the room as much as the captain. head tilted and eyes narrowed as she stared down at the thing. "Or does it just suck magic from the wearer like a walking, talking battery pack?"

It wasn't coming to life on the captain's hand, but that didn't tell them much aside from it wasn't working for him. "Has anyone else tried it on?"

Tiberius huffed a chuckle at his favorite Captain's standard impatience and haughty words and made himself useful by shifting over to the bipedal form with thumbs he rarely bothered adopting (far more interesting to utilize the humans than expend the effort and energy to downgrade into bait).

"Good question, kiddo. But it shouldn't come to life without the Knight. Or Order magic, at least." Tiberius remembered well how Aue's senshi phone had shorted out the moment Chaos hands had touched it, becoming a useless brick until the then-Order senshi had taken it back into his possession. No doubt trinkets like the one Smokestack held worked in similar ways.

Dark fabric susurrating against itself and the thick plush of striped tail, the Mauvian-in-humanoid form moved to fetch a small case knife and a pair of fine-point tweezers. "Can't very well figure out how it works without crackin' it open. Let's set this baby down and open 'er up!" Tiberius was absolutely certain that his companions would be gung-ho with him - well, the kittens would be, anyway. Smokestack and Enyo maybe not so much...but hey, the artefact was already broken, he could do nothing worse, and if granny wanted to keep chattin, he wasn't gonna mind.

There was tech to be tinkered with and Tibby was ready: two glorious thumbs and eight brilliant fingers, just waiting to get into Kholat Syakhl's dusty old bauble.

He loomed, grinning cheekily down at the captain with ears pricked forward. "Give 'er over, Smokestack. Unless you're volunteering to assist... Pretty sure we wouldn't mind another couple hands." Actually, it would be useful, but the captain might not want to take orders from so many Mau - Tiberius couldn't have rightly judged his mind. Do the kittens have hands too? The dame? He wasn't gonna ask, so no answers would be forthcoming.

Lace blinked as Tib changed form and shifted as well, even as the other kitten spoke up. Smaller dainty fingers reached over, and she concetrated on the item.

"What if we used the nega energy?" She summoned subspace and out tumbled various things, like candy and sweet cookies and she blushed. "S..Sorry, sorry. So sorry." She shoved it all back in and then found what she wanted, a small tool set.

"Here you go!" She looked over to Reven next and cocked her head, "I'm Lace!" Since kitties.

Two of the felines started on a potential thread of solving the bracelet's mystery. One addressed a power source while the other offered a power source. Useful. Progressive. Maybe they would solve this conundrum in a shorter span than the months he expected. "I don't know how it ran before, but I don't want it using my energy. If anything should be drained, drain the target."

Leaning a shoulder against the cave-carved wall, Faustite answered the white Mau. "No one else has worn it." If it worked not for the current incarnation of the knight, then would it work for someone else? Or was it a matter of working for someone more human? Or for someone more affiliated with technology? He couldn't imagine a sudden vigor awakening in the device for sitting on Mauvian fingers. But magic seldom bent to science's laws and theorems; Mauvian insight was perhaps even less useful on the magical end given their technical prowess.

Tiberius expected Order magic to be the power source. Maybe that was so — Faustite had only ever witnessed the trinket in use by his old self — but Faustite vastly preferred a solution that bent the device to the will of the wearer. He held it, he owned it, he had rights to its magic.

Then came an interesting insight into the cats with which he worked — their diets didn't necessarily match what normal cats ate. Rather than smoked salmon or cod or tepid tilapia, cookies and candy were summoned at Lace's whim. Faustite silently lofted his brows. They were closer to people than he expected.

Taking a seat on an extant pillow, Faustite braced his forearms against the workspace, He spread the bracelet apart using one of the screwdrivers from Lace's toolkit until each of the five lengths corresponded with the shape of a hand. Only a few jewels of luminous, opalescent descent remained encrusted on the item, with the rest long gone to time. In their stead sat empty sockets that proclaimed the trinket junk.

"You mentioned draining," he began by pointing at Reven with the screwdriver, "and you mentioned Negaverse energy," he finished by pointing at Lace. "How would you approach using either?" His gaze scanned the crowd of Maus, hoping for some insight.

Still relatively new to all of this and keen on learning as much as contributing, Reven fell quiet again after giving her own suggestive two-cents. She wanted to see how the other cats thought and operated. How they dissected a problem to pick it apart, and how they found an answer after. It was so very intriguing, and more than a little enviable and frustrating, because Reven wasn't good at any of it just yet.

But maybe that was alright. Maybe she could metaphorically hang back and let the two with thumbs take lead on this. They seemed to know what they were doing, at the very least.

A good plan, she thought, until the Silk look alike turned her attention down to the remaining kitten to introduce herself. Yep, that's the sister. "Hi. I'm Reven. I know your brother. Nice to meet you finally."

Then the captain was pointing at her with a screwdriver, and pale ears flicked back as her mind went completely blank, but he wasn't asking her directly. As his piercing gaze swept around the room at the other mau she let out a small huff of relief.

Lace had a human form too, small and dainty just like she was. Tiberius was impressed and pleased - almost as pleased as he was to see that she too used her subspace place as a holding ground for all the various what-nots she might have a care for. Lace had potential as a concat, she really did.

And suggesting using Nega energy? Nice. Not sure if Order tech'll ever be compatible with that, but that's not Smokestack's problem, that's a Cat problem.

Oh, but his Mistress' favorite toy was a clever one, already on the up-and-up, giving them a suggestion of what he wanted versus just what was possible. That did narrow down what might be on the table as far as the Mauvian's drafting of ideas...and it pleased Tiberius greatly that he wanted to d**k over the other side to make it work. Delightful. Devious.

Faustite was favoring the kittens, which was no big surprise considering the history between cat and boy....and the way that the fussy Marm was providing mostly flea dirt. Focus, Tiberius. Focus. Bait the brat later. There's treasure to be found here. Technology was it's own reward, wasn't it? And Reven wasn't rising to the bait set out by the smoky little s**t, instead being nervous and trying to cleave unto Lace.

"Probably need a chip of greater crystal, like the Sovereigns give us for upgrades...store the energy, convert it." Tiberius' tail flicked against his legs as the focus of the entire room narrowed down to the technology in Faustite's hand, "Can't imagine another Rift crystal would be able to stand up to the strain of dealing with Order energy and Knight magic conversion."

"I don't...I don't think it would fit a lot of crystals either." She nervousy played with her fingers, and smiled shyly at Reven, "Silk is my brother! He's....okay."

Her gaze fell on the machine tech again, "If we are going to change...change it. Maybe we need materials....from more then just the rift?" If it was built from order, then perhaps they could take not just rift crystals or concetrate, but pieces to make it easier??

Or they could hack it.

"Or we can hack it?"
