DREAM JOB Prima Ballerina Mermaid Princess of the North Sea. If that doesn't work out, maybe a dance teacher. Or a professional ballerina. Or an Olympic gymnast!

xxxPERSONALITYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

PASSIONATE High-spirited and outspoken, Rhea may be tiny but she's still a force of nature. When she sets her mind to something, it's going to get done, no matter what. When she has something she cares about she will dedicate herself to learning everything there is to know about the topic, whether it's ballet, or mermaids, or even her friendships. She is grounded in her beliefs and likes to find the good in everything and everyone she comes across.

DISCIPLINED When it comes to the things she is passionate about, Rhea is incredibly disciplined. With her ballet and gymnastics she has dedicated nearly her entire life, spending hours a day practicing and keeping her body performance-ready at all times. She runs a tight schedule in order to make time for her training, school work, and social life, and is even strict with her diet (although she still makes sure to get those junk food cravings satisfied). When times come up that she is unable to maintain her routine, such as when she is ill and told to rest, she becomes terribly stressed and restless. She cannot stand to be still for long and is prone to try and sneak off and maintain her activity levels somehow.

INSECURE Receiving her magic was probably one of the most difficult moments in Rhea's young life. She was quick to notice the affect her accidental magic phase had on her parent's relationship. Suddenly Rhea was a wizard, her father was upset to handle it, and her mother unhappy at her father's behavior towards what they realized was inevitable. She recalled Uncle Joseph had always said magic was twisted and dreadful. Did she do something wrong? Is she a bad person? Rhea has several doubts towards her magic, but she is just as harsh on the rest of herself. The girls at school were prettier. They had better grades. They didn't get in trouble because all the books on the shelf flew off when they were browsing for something to read. Hell, some of them already had boyfriends. What was so wrong with her?

ROMANTIC Rhea has always been fascinated with fairy tales. The thought of a princess finding her true love and living a happily ever after was incredibly appealing to an impressionable young girl, and she is one of those young ladies who has been plotting her wedding since she was 5. (Currently she wants a poofy white dress with lacy sleeves with a bouquet of tiger lilies and forget-me-nots). She is a sweet young lady that sees the beauty in everything, even the worst things... Except figs. There's nothing beautiful about figs.

INDEPENDENT Although she's the baby of the family, Rhea is probably the most independent of the Lane children. She's lived a life where her parents were always busy, and her brothers are old enough to be busy with lives of their own. She has learned if she wants to get anything done she's best off doing it herself, and although she appreciates help when it's offered, she will never dare ask as the last thing she wants is to be seen as a bother. Everyone's so busy... She'd hate for anyone to have to sacrifice their precious time just for her sake. She's got two good legs, so she can use them herself.

PERCEPTIVE Rhea is an incredibly bright young lady who is wise beyond her years. She may not apply herself like she should in school, thus she doesn't quite reach her potential in terms of grades, but she is excellent in social situations. She can read people well and adjusts herself accordingly to easily converse with each individual. She's also a great person to go to for advice as she wants nothing more than to help.

xxxBACKSTORYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

EARLY CHILDHOOD Rhea Allison is the youngest child and only daughter of Marco and Delia Lane. She grew up a bundle of joy and energy, loving nothing more than to spend time playing with her two older brothers. Her knowledge of magic was never extensive... As long as she could remember her brother Jonah was magical, but Orion wasn't. It never made much sense to her, really. Strange things happened to Jonah and their uncle certainly did not seem to get along with the boy, but she could see how jealous Rion was.

Much of her time growing up was spent with her Uncle, Joseph, since the boys were in school and her parents were nearly always busy with work (her mum an astronomer, and her dad a physician). He seemed to regard her neutrally, for the most part, but to Rhea it was clear that he had a soft spot for his niece. There was never any malice towards her, but at any time she expressed interest in Jonah or brought up magic her uncle would react with disgust. She knew he hated magic, but she couldn’t place why… If she turned out to be a witch, would he learn to hate her too? Was that why he was often so distant? He was waiting to see if she would be a ‘bad kid’? She hoped he would never turn on her like that--after all, Joseph was more of a parent to her in her earlier years than her mother and father were.

If she were to be perfectly honest, Rhea didn’t want anything to do with being a witch and she often prayed that she would turn out to be a squib like Orion. All the politics involved seemed such a hassle, and she wasn’t interested in the concept of an ‘accidental magic’ phase or being separated from her friends at home to attend a boarding school for most of the year. She had other aspirations in mind--like becoming the “Prima Ballerina Mermaid Princess of the North Sea”.
She had always been an athletic child. From ages three to eight she had taken gymnastics and ballet since age four; she had only been forced to quit gymnastics when her grades began to slip due to her not paying attention in class. Still, she keeps up her lessons the best she can and does yoga every day to help with her ballet exercises. Rhea is incredibly dedicated to her dancing and hopes one day to turn it into a career--as a teacher or professional ballerina, she has no idea. Although her focus is on ballet she does study other forms of dance from her instructor and has picked up each dance step with ease, proving herself to be a quick learner when she puts her mind to something.

As a young girl growing up in Rye, just two miles from the sea, the ocean had always been near and dear to Rhea Lane’s heart. Her fondest memories with her father include visits to the beach and harbor and watching mermaid movies on repeat. She also often visited the famous Mermaid Inn across the street with her father and uncle and was fascinated by the history associated with the place. Marco had even dubbed their floo address “The Grotto”, much to Rhea’s amusement. Jonah would often read books with her as well--her favorite was always The Little Mermaid, tragic as it was, and she loved to hear mermaid facts from his copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Frankly, she was a little obsessed. If she did turn out to be a witch, she hoped there would be a way to make her into a mermaid, instead.

One day her uncle was just gone, and Rhea didn't know why. All she knew was that after that, her parents were fighting more often and her mum tried to be around more, but even so most of her time was spent with Jonah. She would say he needed special attention since he needed to learn to control his magic, and one day when Rhea got hers she would give her the same treatment. Her parents still loved her dearly, but life was lonely. School had become her salvation; at least there she had friends and people to talk to, at least until she received her magic in June of 2043.

She had gone into a brief sleepwalking phase and Jonah, not knowing any better, teased her that she had gotten her magic and it was manifesting in apparating in her sleep--something which her mother was able to explain to her was impossible, however, Jonah seemed to be on to something regardless as when she had taken his wand in retaliation she had managed to knock every book in the living room off the shelf. Her mother and brothers were thrilled to finally confirm she was a witch, but she and her father… Not so much. The manifestation of her magic only seemed to cause her parents to argue more and more, and while Orion had managed to shield both her and Jonah for the remainder of that summer, eventually school had come and she had her first ‘incident’.

Rhea hated Todd Simmons. He was a stupid jerk and so were his stupid friends! Just because Rhea turned out to be an early bloomer and had started to wear a training bra the boys thought it would be fine to snap it behind her back, they pulled her hair, called her names… Todd kept telling--not asking--her to be his girlfriend, but for Merlin’s sake she was not about to have her first boyfriend be some twerp that bullies her for kicks. Todd, classy as ever, thought the best way to retaliate to rejection would be to lift up her skirt in front of the other boys at recess. Rhea wasn’t having it though and shoved him away, except her magic appeared to have kicked in in that moment and she’d shoved the boy much further than she expected. The confrontation ended in a sprained wrist and scrapes for Todd with two days suspension, and a week of suspension for Rhea. Her suspension sparked the first fight she had witnessed between her parents, and the rest of the school year had gone downhill from there. By the end of the year she found out her parents would be getting a divorce, and poor Rhea couldn’t help but blame herself for starting everything. If she hadn’t been magical, there would have been nothing to worry about! It was all because she was a witch, and thanks to that, the last thing she wanted to do was go to school just to learn more magic. In her fragile state, she’d probably just mess it all up, anyway. She’d probably just hurt someone else like she did Todd… Her insecurities began to get the best of her.

Godric’s Hollow wasn’t terrible. She still got to floo over to Rye for school until she began Hogwarts, and she had her neighbors Brook and Aidene to play with! They became her new best friends, and Rhea began to look on the bright side of things again. At least when she got to Hogwarts she could spend time with Jonah more… Not to mention his best friend’s super cute cousin.

DREAM JOB Ballerina for the English National Ballet Dance Instructor
FORMER OCCUPATION Aerial Acrobat at the Magical Circus, retirement forced due to head injury
CURRENT OCCUPATION Owner & Dance Instructor at Hex & Helix Dance Company

xxxPERSONALITYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

PASSIONATE High-spirited and outspoken, Rhea is a force to be reckoned with. When she sets her mind to something, it's going to get done, no matter what. When she has something she cares about she will dedicate herself to learning everything there is to know about the topic, whether it's ballet, or mermaids, or new acquaintances in her life. She is grounded in her beliefs and strives to find the beauty in every situation, every person, and everything she comes across.

INSECURE Rhea has done well to maintain an outward appearance of confidence and poise to her peers, but on the inside, she is often in an internal struggle. Is she pretty enough? Smart enough? Is she trying hard enough in her studies, her training, her friendships, her life? The need to prove herself wrong has been ingrained in her heart for years, making herself her own worst enemy in terms of pushing herself beyond her mental and physical limitations for the sake of being “good enough”.

ROMANTIC Rhea was always fascinated with fairytales. The thought of a princess finding her true love and living a happily ever after was incredibly appealing to an impressionable young girl, and she was the type to start planning her wedding at the ripe age of 5. True love she has discovered isn't quite the way books made it seem. It can be fleeting, or it can be solid. Fiery or calm. Overwhelming yet never enough. It's messy and unpredictable, and that's what makes it beautiful. That's what makes life beautiful. Rhea believes there's beauty in everything, even in the sadness--but never in figs. Figs can never be redeemed.

INDEPENDENT Most of Rhea’s life has been standing on her own two feet, for as long as she can remember. She grew up in a busy home in a family that didn’t often have time for each other. As such, the last thing she would want to do is burden anyone with her troubles. Rhea will take the time out to do everything herself, and although she will appreciate when help is offered, she cannot stand to be seen as vulnerable or a bother and would much rather figure things out on her own. Asking for help can be incredibly hard, but... She's working on it.

PERCEPTIVE If there's one thing Rhea is good at, it's reading a room. Empathetic and observant, she's got a knack for noticing when something is amiss, particularly for those she's close with. To Rhea conversations flow like water. She can adjust herself to the situation accordingly, going with the flow of whoever she's speaking to. If the situation permits, she'll even offer her own two cents, loving to give advice and help those with their problems.

LIKES
The scent of seasalt clinging to the air and the sound of waves and gulls when coming close to the sea.
Pizza, ice cream, dairy. Most of the things that hurt her to eat.
Sappy romance stories, particularly in movie or graphic novel format.
The warm feeling of sunlight on her fur when she's napping by the window in her animagi form.
Picnics and fireworks on the beach during the summertime.
Christmas lights, movies with fuzzy blankets and hot cocoa in the wintertime.

DISLIKES
Unfamiliar men, particularly muggles. More cautionary rather than active dislike due to experiences with unsolicited comments, a former muggle classmate that made a pass at her, and watching her parents' marriage fall apart due to their magic/non-magic status.
To be disregarded. To be underestimated and not taken seriously.
That she has to take medicine so her favorite foods don't absolutely murder her stomach.
Being sick. She can deal with some disruption to her routines, but being bedridden will not do.
Figs

STRENGTHS
Talented duelist, swordswoman, and dancer
Keen eye

WEAKNESSES
Her insecurity, and how she can get defensive when one of those buttons are pushed.
Downright spiteful when she's been crossed. Sometimes takes a lot of time to calm her back down.

DESIRES
To feel comfortable in her own skin again.

FEARS
Vulnerability / Not being in control of herself - To be drugged, excessively drunk, restrained, suffer from severe illness, etc. This is also why she was always so scared of the dentist (drugs/anesthesia and restriction of movement), also drowning (restriction of movement by being dragged under the current)
That she'll never recover her full memory following her accident. That she'll never be the same, she'll never fully understand herself, and that someone down the line might lose their patience and leave her over it.

They became her new best friends after Marcie and Ann left her, and Rhea began to look on the bright side of things again. At least when she got to Hogwarts she could spend time with Jonah more… Not to mention his best friend’s super cute cousin.

SCHOOL YEARS
FIRST YEAR Rhea’s reluctance to embrace magic had put her schooling off to a rocky start. She’d gone through several wands before one would accept her. With her confidence shattered from previous events, her spellwork came out shoddy at best and she was struggling with her grades. August had been kind enough to take her under his wing and attempted to help with extra reading materials to study (which while appreciated, only seemed to stress her further), but in the end it was thanks to the mildly-terrifying motivation of Lizzie Spektor and the tutelage of her neighbor Aldrick Knapp that got her back on track. By the end of the school year she was actually doing pretty well, and had become much more eager to learn after having several months of magical exposure. In athletics, Rhea had managed to become a reserve Chaser for the Slytherin Quidditch Team and had joined August Li in the announcements stand. She only got to play in one game for what seemed like five minutes before the snitch was caught! A bummer for sure, but she was positive she would get another chance someday. She also joined the dueling club as an observer and the fencing club, all the while continuing her dance lessons on her own. Though she never caught sight of a mermaid in her first year despite her best efforts, she did get a hold of a book on the mermaid language and has set out to learn in hopes that when she did eventually come across a mermaid, she’d be able to at least say hello.

SECOND YEAR The best thing ever happened. Rhea saw her first mermaid! Mer-person. Asra was a boy, but she didn't care! She first spotted him from the common room windows, then eventually managed to find him while at the lake. The two made fast friends. Asra helped Rhea with her Mermish, and Rhea showed Asra BSL so they could communicate through the common room windows. Her pursuit of August Li's heart never wavered. This year she managed to impress him by casting a proper bluebell spell, and he gave her a birthday present. Yes, she was definitely getting somewhere. Classes went fine. Rhea was becoming more accustomed to using her magic, excelling in transfiguration and defense against the dark arts. Finally she was old enough to duel in dueling club and found she loved battle with her wand as much as her sword.

Lizzie introduced Rhea to a first year in Gryffindor house named Nimbus Siddall. He seemed to be in some sort of feud with August's cousin Wren(he seemed nice enough), for reasons none of them had any clue of. She began to find him in the music room on days he could catch it empty, playing beautiful melodies on the piano. He seemed shy and antisocial, so Rhea took it upon herself to join his practices to work on her dance routines. Soon enough the two began to collab and eventually made friends.

Over the Winter break Lizzie's grandmother died. With Auror Spektor still missing, Lizzie had no relatives left to take her in. It took some convincing, but by the end of the funeral arrangements were made for Lizzie to move in at the Chance Cottage. Finally Rhea had a big sister(close enough anyway), though she was awfully frustrated that Lizzie had gone off to burn her old home to the ground, leaving Rhea behind while August and Aldrick were taken along for the ride.

THIRD YEAR Rion was a werewolf. Jonah was a disaster. Rhea had to hold them together, as always. By some sort of miracle, she managed to get Jonah into some semblance of a normal sleep schedule for what seemed like a whole five minutes. Once back at school, he at least continued to go for evening runs with her. After hearing mention between Jonah and Sonora about animagi, she began to look into it herself. If she could learn to become an animagus, then Rion wouldn't have to spend his full moons alone, right? Unfortunately, her transfiguration skills weren't advanced enough quite yet. Rhea resolved to practice her spellwork as much as she could.

August was special, of this Rhea was certain. No one else could tug at her heartstrings in quite the way he could. After an evening studying in the library, Rhea found herself out of dorm past curfew. Lucky for her, August was the prefect to find her and walked her back to Slytherin. She danced along the halls, chatting idly with him all the way. Feeling she needed to reaffirm her feelings, Rhea confessed to August her intentions properly and gave him her first kiss before slipping into the common room. Not much changed after, with August only flustered and refusing to let the two of them be alone during a Christmas party back in Godric's Hollow. That was fine. Rhea could wait.
During the Spring Rhea came across a pair of baby rabbits. August kindly helped her return them to their nest. He gave her a shell locket, and asked her to clarify what she meant by her previous confession. Rhea kissed him again and told him she loved him. He promised to take her feelings seriously, causing her affection for him to grow stronger.

In the summer, her dance instructor Madame Barash designated Rhea an assistant instructor for the Beginner's Ballet Class. She also took up extra contemporary dance courses to hone her skills in gymnastics. At the end of the Summer, Rhea attended the annual Rye Jazz Festival with August, Lizzie, Jonah, and Sonora. She danced the day away with August, and it seemed like he was having a great time until he slipped and the two toppled over. Rhea thought it was funny, but August seemed... Disturbed by it, somehow.

FOURTH YEAR Something was definitely wrong with August. She didn't like the way he seemed to withdraw from her some days, and he seemed tired. She couldn't get any answers. A younger girl from her house, Moira Payne, liked to suggest that maybe he was realizing he was making a mistake with her. Rhea denied this, but Moira's words managed to get under her skin anyway. Winter break came and Lizzie decided to take matters into her own hands by locking Rhea and August in Grandpa Jonah's old apothecary shed until they figured out what they were to eachother. August... Avoided an answer. Bohemently. As each hour passed, Rhea's heart chipped and cracked until she finally lost her patience with it all. Clearly August didn't want to be with her, so she would make the decision for them. They would be nothing. The door opened and Rhea rushed past Lizzie, taking the floo to her dad's house in Rye. When Marco tried to stick his nose into her business, Rhea snapped at him and they proceeded to have their worst argument over Marco's involvement in his children's lives after the divorce.

Rhea began to avoid August, going so far as to quit her position as co-Quidditch announcer. She threw herself into her studies and her dance training. While attempting to soak a mandrake leaf in her mouth and failing several attempts, she inadvertently lost some weight over the next few weeks. Rhea pushed herself too hard and collapsed during a practice session with Nimbus, who managed to find Jonah for her. The boys took her to the infirmary where she was forced to remain the rest of the week. Rhea couldn't even be mad about it. She was just so tired of everything.
August sent her a note requesting a dance at the upcoming Valentine's ball. Rhea was uncertain, but went. He never spoke to her. Not wanting to continue to bother her friends as a third wheel, Rhea decided to leave the dance early. It was in the halls that August finally caught up to her and apologized. By the end of the night August and Rhea were officially together, and by the end of the year, Rhea managed to complete her potion.

FIFTH YEAR Fifth year was filled with studying, dates, and study dates. Dating August Li meant a lot of hitting the books, but Rhea didn't mind. She was already pretty used to it. At least they had plenty of dance breaks. It was a big year for them both between O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s, and they both did well. It was hard to imagine coming back the next year with August, Aldrick, and Lizzie graduated, but she was happy for them.

In an effort to bond with her dad, Rhea spent some time volunteering at Rye Hospital over the Summer between her dance practices. She primarily worked in the pediatric ward reading to the children and bringing them their meals. There she met an 8-year-old by the name of Elian. It seemed like he was in and out of the hospital constantly with his heart condition, and the two inevitably became close. Even when Rhea finished her volunteering, she continued to visit the boy. She got to know his mother and would visit during her spare time. While at the beach one day towards the end of the Summer, Elian collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital. His heart was failing, and there was no donor. Through the window of Elian's exam room Rhea watched him take his final breaths. Her heart was broken.

SIXTH YEAR Rhea had been trying her best to be there for Brook during her grieving the last year, but she was so angry and resistant to anyone trying to support her. It was hard, especially since Rhea was dealing with her own grief and sorely missing her graduated friends. Rhea wasn't prepared for her first time seeing a thestral, and broke down in tears. Shortly after, she and Brook got into a fight that went on for a good chunk of the year.

Rhea fell into a deep depression. She pretended to be fine during her Hogsmeade visits with August, but she knew Orion had caught on and was keeping him posted. Still, Rhea didn't want to talk about it. She just wanted to forget for a while. During her free time, she would often tutor Nimbus in dueling. This was where she would let out her pent up anger. Nimbus looked a little scared sometimes when she flung curse after curse at him, but by the end of it he fought every bit as fiercely as Rhea did, so he had no right to complain as far as she was concerned. Rhea and Brook made up by the end of the year fortunately, and with time, things started to get better.

SEVENTH YEAR Rhea was finally adjusted to her new normal. She felt lighter, and was looking forward to her impending graduation. She didn't do quite as well on her N.E.W.T.s as she might have if August had been by her side like he was for O.W.L.s, but Rhea was overall proud of her results. Besides, it wasn't like she needed perfect grades anyway. Once she graduated, Rhea would audition for the British National Ballet, just like she always dreamed.

POST-GRADUATION
Rhea couldn't believe it. She wasn't accepted into the ballet. Where did she go wrong? She spent practically every spare second of her life training for this moment, and she failed. Now what was she supposed to do? Join the wizarding circus, apparently. It was actually fun. She made use of her skills as an animagus, and when she wasn't doing that, she was high in the air hanging from ribbons in colorful leotards. During this time, August finally proposed. She couldn't wait to be Mrs. Lane-Li.

Then it happened.

A scorned ex of one of Rhea's fellow ribbon dancers had sabotaged the ribbon. Rhea wasn't set to perform that night, but the girl was feeling ill, so she offered to go up in her place. The ribbon tore. Rhea fell. She felt a bang, and her world went black. When she came to, Rhea thought she was 15 again. She didn't remember being a performer. She didn't remember graduating. She didn't remember dating August, or that Aidene was a vampire. She didn't even remember that her mother had another baby! It was devastating, suddenly feeling like she was living someone else's life. She couldn't even recognize herself in the mirror. Her head injury threw her off her equilibrium. Suddenly she had a hard time dancing, or doing the gymnastic required of her for her job. She had no choice but to quit. August was endlessly patient with her and helped her to pick up the pieces. Growing up, Rhea had chased him. Now it was his turn to chase her. It wasn't long before she fell for him all over again.

With help from her former dance instructor, Rhea was able to get herself back to peak performance. Slowly, memories came back to her--some good, some incredibly painful. She auditioned again for the British National Ballet, and this time, she succeeded. This time, she got to reject them. Instead, inspired by her former instructor, Rhea decided she would run her own dance company.

While she worked towards this new goal, she and August got married. During their honeymoon, tragedy struck the Winchester side of the family. Upon return Rhea did what little she could to support the grieving family. They moved into a beautiful little home in Scarborough. Weeks later Rhea discovered she was pregnant. August applied as a professor for Hogwarts. Rhea began to set up shop in Hogsmeade. Their son was born in July with some complications, but he pulled through. Rhea named him after the little boy she remembered mourning: Elian, though they often went by his middle name, Jun. To date Rhea still hasn't recovered all of her memories from her accident, but every once in a while a stray one comes back to her. Hopefully one day she'll recover all of her pieces, but for now, she's quite content making new memories with her family.
