Now that the summer was over, it was time to go back to school. Some of the foals that Rogue had gotten to know over the last year or two grew up, including his own siblings, but here he still was. Without his siblings to be his partner in crime or to keep him in check, Rogue found himself spending a lot of time chatting up the fillies in his class. During lunch time, the magenta hued colt was comfortably seated with 3 fillies his age who hung onto his words as he told the dramatic story of how he had rescued a cat from a tree over the summer. As he was coming to the end his story, he dramatically pointed a foreleg into a random direction and mimicked a side hug, "and then the owner insisted on a hug goodbye." As he gestured, out of the corner or his eye he spotted another filly entering the lunchroom that he had not seen before.

Another summer gone and now 9 more months of school. It wasn't that Joy disliked school. Learning was fun, Miss Glory was kind, and she had to be there by law. She was also sure that her daddy was also grateful not to have to supervise a fairly active little foal 24/7 anymore. No, school was fine. It was just the other foals. It'd been difficult to get into a friend group. In fact she hadn't managed to at all. One of the kids had run into her over the summer volunteering at the animal shelter and now whenever she passed by, she could hear the whispers that she "smell like a dog" even though she clearly didn't. Joy was stubborn and would not let the others get her down about what she loved doing. So she sat by herself at the furthest table in the farthest corner and had her lunch.

Far, far away, Rogue could see the brown filly sitting all alone. There was something kind cute about the way she did her hair and Rogue pegged her as being someone with something interesting going on. Staying still, he continued to watch her from the distant while his friends around him chattered on. Over a few minutes, what seemed like a cool exterior came to look a little sad. 'Perhaps this is a damsel in need of some de-stressing,' Rogue thought to himself. If there was one thing he really liked doing, it was swooping in and cheering up a filly. "Excuse me, I got to go check something out," Rogue smiled at his companions as he stood up from his seat. Beelining straight for the brown filly, Rogue was quickly sliding himself into a seat across from her. "Hey there miss, you wouldn't mind if I sit?"

Joy glanced up from her sandwich and blinked. "Oh. Uhm...s..sure!" Even though he'd already sat, she gestured for him to take a seat and then awkwardly put her arm back in when she noticed he'd already sat down. She side glanced at the direction he'd come from and saw a bunch of foals watching them like hawks. Had he come over figure out if she smelled like a dog or to find some other reason for the others to make fun of her? She bit into meal in order to keep from saying anything stupid that could be used as ammunition against her.

"Great," Rogue smiled her and watched her eat her sandwich. "So, what's a filly like you doing all the way over here alone, huh? Too cool for school? I get that, I tried to bust out of class once and Miss Glory caught me sneaking out the window. I had to be in detention for a whole week. I imagine you got this place all figured out thought right?" There was hardly a pause as Rogue filled the awkward silence with chatter, trying to coax out any sentences.

She wasn't sure what to say. Rogue Gallery was popular in class. Good looking, charming, and quick witted, all the traits of a colt that was going to be going somewhere. She felt very plain near him and the fact that she was being pelted with stares from their classmates wasn't helping. "Uhm..yeah I heard about that. Well..over heard it...once. It was you and your brother right? B..b..blossom..bobble...bubbles.." She hadn't known any of his other siblings and while she'd heard the names in passing, the only thing she could remember is that it started with a "B".

"Blade Waltz?" Rogue chuckled, thinking back on their adventures in terrorizing Miss Glory a little. "Close enough. I'm glad to hear my reputation proceeds me though. I guess you know I'm Rogue Gallery, but I don't think I've ever had the pleasure of getting your name?" Any stares that were shooting there way didn't phase him at all.

"Blade, yes, that's it." she nodded. Well she was KINDA sure that was it but since Rogue confirmed it, then she'll go with it. "Joy." oh right, her name. Just because she knew his name didn't mean he knew hers. Why would he? "Heartfelt Joy." She thrust a carrot stick at him, trying to be polite. "Uhm, would you like one?" She side glanced again at the group that was watching. "Your friends though..they seem to be..waiting for you."

"Joy, lovely!" Rogue grinned, thinking that a happy name needed to match a happy face. He knew he had to do something to get her to smile. At the mention of friends, he glanced back, "What? Oh, them? Naw, they are cool. They won't miss me at all, we'll just catch up later. Unless that is, if you want to come over and join them ?"

She blushed brightly, having her name called "lovely", but it retreated almost as quickly. "Oh..no..no that's ok. They...don't like me I think." The sentence sorta landed between them with a thud. "Sorry, I mean, I'm sure they're your friends but they aren't mine so.." Joy bites into her own carrot stick and finally just asks; "Why are you over here anyway? I mean.." a long pause, she can't figure a nice way to ask. "Well..why?"

"Don't like you? Don't be absurd, they've never met you. You gotta give people the benefit of time and not let them scare you away. There's no reason for them not to like you, I mean, you got your cutie mark right? If anything, everyone should be jealous of you," Rogue quickly batted the air, as if it push any negative thought away. When asked why he had come over, Rogue just shrugged, "You looked like you could use some company, and my mom raised me to be social, I guess." Then he leaned over and whispered, "Plus, I heard there a super secret agent in our school and maybe it's you. You fit the bill, alone and surveying the crowd, gathering intelligence on everyone. I bet that's not even a real sandwich, but jelly explosives that you had to disarm." Rogue was clearly kidding, but levity helped break any ice that Joy might feel if she thought he was taking pity on her.

"I..er...uh.." a lot of information hit Joy at once. The bit about the others being jealous sort of tumbled around her brain like in a clothes dryer, new ideas and thoughts forming from it. But the quip about her sandwich snapped her out of it momentarily. "What? Who? Me? What? Noooo.." a smile dance across her lips before shyness over took it and she looked away again. "It's just PB&Jelly like normal."

"A likely story, that's just what a spy would say. What if I told you, I actually came over because I'm your contact with your next mission, if you choose to accept it," Rogue waggled his eyebrows. "Your next mission, is to finish that sandwich and then high five me!" Immediately, Rogue lifted his hoof up into the air and waited.

"W.w..what?!" Joy burst out giggling. What was up with the colt?! He was so WEIRD and funny and actually nice! Go figure! A mischievous look appears on Joy's face and she grins. "A challenge! You're on!" Fortunately she was most of the way done with her lunch, so she crammed the last corner of her food in her mouth and chewed super fast. With a gulp, she thrust her hoof forward and high fived Rogue. "That's a good boy!!" she exclaimed as their hooves met. The statement hung in the air, and time ground to the halt. Joy's hooves flew to her mouth and her entire body turned as red as Rogue's " I am so sorry.." she squeaked in horror.

Huzzah! Rogue had succeed in cheering her up enough that actually seemed like Joy was having fun. After their hooves touched, their was a brief moment of silence. A good boy? It was innocent words, but it was like she was treating him like a prized pet. The words rolled in his head. 'A good boy, huh,' Rogue mused to himself, if only she really knew. While a dashing rescuer, there was a wicked streak in Rogue where he was sure if he told her, Joy might not think he was that good. Yet still, he was pleased for that to be the perception and to his inner self, he had to admit it was little bit true. Still, the colt couldn't help but burst out laughing himself. "A good boy!" a trail of laughter followed, "if only my parents could hear you say that. You're not so bad yourself, Joy."
