It was early, the sun barely peeking over the mountains, so it was cool enough to move without over heating, the rocks were still cool from the night and Dawnpaw ran her paws over the cool stone with a happy sound. She loved this time of day. Watching the sun come up, feeling the world wake up almost gave her hope. HailFall had passed away, and that had put a small lag in her training but she was going to be trained by SilverStreak now... and she was excited. Through all the bad, the possibility of continuing her training and getting her warrior name... she couldnt contain her excitement and pounced on a bit of grass sprouting from the rocks.

Her blue eyes glittered and she glanced toward the Warrior den watching for her mentor to come out so they could go. She had it in her mind that she was going to catch a large piece of prey today. Something.... Amazing.

Ever since Dawnpaw's first mentor, Hailfall, had died, Silverstreak had taken up her mentorship. She had even volunteered for the position, determined not to let either of her sisters fall behind on their training for more than a day.

Her wish had been granted and she got straight to it. While there were fighting moves to be learned, she had primarily been focusing on hunting skills and techniques with Dawnpaw. She wasn't sure on how much Hailfall had managed to teach her before they joined SunClan, but she was ready to pick up the slack.

Padding from the Warrior Den, she saw Dawnpaw waiting for her and smiled.
"You ready for a great training session?" She asked her sister-apprentice with a smile. "Be prepared though, cause it's gonna be a long day." She warned. Initially, back when she was an apprentice and their river hadn't deserted them, she would've been told to get something to eat before they left, but that wasn't an option now. So, she just prayed to SunClan that that would change soon and that the river would return, and things would be like they were again.

Dawnpaw Curled her tail happily seeing her new mentor, and sister, walk out. "SilverStreak! Yes! Im so ready im gonna hunt so much that ill feed the whole clan tonight!" She looked positive, her dreary thoughts washed away by the hope of being an amazing warrior... well apprentice for now. "Im all set!" She was gaunt and her skin clung to her bones, Hungry and thirsty, but energy seemed to radiate now that the promise of hunting was in view.

She waved her tail and looked at her new mentor. "Are we gonna practice battle movies today? I was working on the jump behind with HailFall." She flicked her ears, sadness pulling at her excitement for a moment but then just a fast as the ear flick had been, she shook herself and puffed out her chest. She would be the best apprentice, she had to beat out her other sister of course.

Silverstreak smiled when she saw her sister, er, apprentice. She wasn't quite sure what to call Dawnpaw, since she was both. Yet, she smiled all the same and padded over to her, sliding her tail along Dawnpaw's spine. She was troubled that she felt her sister's spine more prominently, but perhaps they would get lucky today and manage to catch something. She prayed to SunClan that was the case.

"I'm sure every cat in MountainClan would thank you for your hard work." She mewed with pride in her voice. "Let's hurry along. Maybe we can get the jump on any critters that may be rustling about if we go earlier." She mewed as she set out of the camp.

When Dawnpaw asked about battle moves, she nodded.
"Yes, we may, if we're not too tired when we return." She replied. "Tell me more about what Hailfall had been teaching you, if you can remember. It'll be good for me to not try to teach you what you already know." She mewed with a smile.

DawnPaw purred at the tail touch and rubbed against her sister familiarly. She was equally as concerned about her family and all the clan. No one was truly plump at the moment. She let her purr rattle in her throat a moment longer, missing their mom in that moment. She would have made it all ok again.

She twitched her tail eagerly. "Yeah! I can earn my place.... " She was trying to find some way to fit in, some way to stand out. She bounced up at that. "Of course!" She waited for Silverstreak to lead the way. She padded along happily. Her pawsteps were quiet as they headed out. She kept her senses open for prey as they went. She couldnt scent anything. Was the prey really that far gone now?

She fluffed out in sheer happiness, she wanted to do it all... just all of it. "Me? Tired? I never get tired~" Well she never had... but lack of meals and water did drain at her, but she wouldnt admit it. "Hmmm Hailfall has taught me... Almost all the hunting things... Like... She showed me the right way to catch a hawk, but... there hasn't been a lot of opportunity to practice... " afterall a hawk was going after the same prey as them... but unlike them, hawks could leave and find the prey.... No prey... no hawks... She frowned. "But she didnt like my hare chasing technique at all... Ive chased a few but i always lose them into their dens.... I think i must not be fast enough?" Or it was she was too loud in her stalking up on rabbits... but no... it couldnt be that...

She pondered as she trotted along. "HailFall was trying t teach me fighting moves but... " She shrugged. She was kinda horrible at fighting. The ump behind was about the only one she had accomplished well enough to call... accomplished.

Silverstreak was pleased with her apprentice's enthusiasm and purred at the sight of it.

"You can earn your place by listening to me and using what you learn on your assessment." Silverstreak finished for Dawnpaw. She flicked her tail against Dawnpaw's nose when she mewed that she'd never get tired. "We'll see about that." Was all she said, though she had an amused smile on her maw.

When she told her that Hailfall had taught her all of the hunting techniques, but that her hare chasing technique might use some work, Silverstreak nodded in consideration.

"Well, let me see you run through the basics for the time being, then we can work some battle moves, alright?" She mewed, before she found a
clearing that would be fitting for their training session. She turned to Dawnpaw. "Start with the hunter's crouch and stalk forward. Aim for... that leaf, there." She pointed a paw at a leaf a foxlength away. "And then, tell me the difference in hunting crouches when you're stalking a mouse, versus a hare." She instructed and sat down to watch.

Dawnpaw purred happilly. The promise of some place in the clan just her own was a happy thought. She nodded. Wrinkling her nose at the flick she bounced. "Ill show you! You will be tired way before i even think of sleep"

She followed along with hr paws twitching to go. She bounced around her mentor "Ok!" She listened and plopped into a hunters crouch padding along. Alright... mouse... the leaf is a mouse... She set each paw smoothly, almost sliding the paws along the ground so there would be no tremble of foot falls. And then she shifted. It was a hare... she had to be silent. She pressed to the ground stalking closer and closer. Finally she sprung up, what would have been too soon and she tackled the leaf. She chewed it pulling pieces off. "Mmmm SilverStreak! this Hare is delicious! Not sure i can save you any... its just tooooo good." Her eyes glittered as she brought the leaf back to her mentor for her critiques.

Silverstreak let out a soft purr at her apprentice, who then bounded forward. She watched her sister, who still managed to have such a light, happy step and a smile upon her maw, despite the struggle MountainClan was facing. She curled her tail up, relaxing despite the nawing pit in her stomach, which had at least dulled from the sharp bite of hunger. Silverstreak wasn't sure which was worse these days, eating on the rare occasion when food was presented to them and then having to deal with feeling more acute hunger later, or just going hungry altogether.

When her apprentice got into a hunting pose, Silverstreak watched carefully. A breeze rose and turned her fur one way then the next. Dawnpaw was still moving along, her paws quiet, but she didn't seem to notice the wind. When she returned with the torn leaf, Silverstreak couldn't help but smile.

"You did well in keeping silent and you landed squarely atop your leaf, which would have made for an excellent time to execute a killing bite, had it been prey. But did you notice the way that the breeze changed directions while you were stalking the leaf? Had that been a rabbit, how do you think it would have impacted your hunt?" She asked, curious to see if Dawnpaw had been taught this already, or if it would prove a useful lesson.

Dawnpaw couldnt be miserable... lack of food... all the death... this was the entirety of her life.

She didnt even think about the cool breeze fluffing her fur to try and cool her from the burning sun. All she knew was chasing the leaf. Determined... she was always determined, if nothing else could be said.

But as she dropped the leaf to listen she picked her ears but then dropped just a bit. She hadnt been perfect... she would have to try harder...."I didnt... It would be long gone... " Hmmm maybe that was why the rabbits always got away. She flicked her tail through the dust. It of course was mentioned... probably a million times... but there was just so much to keep in mind. "Ok... so should i go again? MAybe you should show me? I dont know... do you think i can do it... is there even a reason to try?" Dawnpaw flopped to the ground. "I was supposed to be the greatest hunter... but if it doesnt come natural... I mean... you should see Duskpaw... she walks on tree branches as if she was born to it."

Silverstreak's gaze turned sympathetic as she approached her sister and she lay her tail across Dawnpaw's back.
"Very rarely does a cat take to hunting. I had trouble with it too. I wasn't ever paying attention to my mentor and I ran around so much that I scared any prey that was in the area. It took me a while to get myself under enough control to actually hunt anything." She mewed. "Part of being an apprentice means learning how to do something and working hard to make sure you do it right. I've no doubt that you'll get this soon enough." She smiled at the other.

"Now, what you want to consider when the wind changes is that a rabbit's sense of smell is even better than our own. When the wind changed directions, it would've carried our scent towards the rabbit, alerting it to our presence. In that situation, there's not much we can do about it, except charge out and hope we're close enough to grab it, if not then we'll chase it down." She smiled. "Do you want to try again? Or shall we move onto something else?" She asked.

Dawnpaw purred and perked her ears at that. "Yeah... Im going to be the best! Just watch me!" She nodded a determined nod. for all her klutz she would set her mind to something and go for it. No holds barred. "So wind..." She found another leaf and dropped to a crouch careful of the wind. Minding her steps. The wind changed and She attacked.

Bringing it back she purred. "You think i would have caught it that time?!" Since she had tried it again they could move on but she wanted to get it right... so that even when her mentor... sister... was busy... she could practice being perfect.

Silverstreak's eyes glinted with appreciation for her apprentice's can-do attitude about continuing to try her best. She watched as Dawnpaw took into account the changing wind. She saw the way that her apprentice's ears flicked to detect the shift when the breeze changed again. Then, she pounced soon after and was bringing the leaf back to Silverstreak promptly.

"Yes, I'm sure you would have caught it then. Very well done." She mewed to Dawnpaw. "Now that you've got that down for the day, let's go see if we can't find some moss to bring back to the others. We'll be able to work on your tree climbing then, too." She mewed and beckoned her sister-apprentice with a wave of her tail, ready to begin moving forward again.

Dawnpaw sat proudly. She was going to be the best... and Silverstreak was gonna teach her to be. She purred at the praise and rubbed happily against her sister.

With the new plan she nodded. "Ok! Moss!" She watched her sister lead the way, and then with a classic kitten bounce she bounded after her sister batting her tail while laughing. Just because life was hard didnt mean that she had to pout when it was just her and her sister.
