Fletcher moved to sit in his seat quietly. He looked up to listen to his teacher, hearing that they would be doing a group project. His heart sank; he didn’t like working in teams and remembered that last time no one picked him so he got to work alone. Maybe if he sank down in his seat, no one would pick him again and he’d get to work by himself. As he watched everyone team up, he smiled. He was the last and only one without a partner. “It looks like there is no one else for me to team up with.” He told the teacher, hoping she’d give him what he wanted.

Zane ran as fast as she could down the hallway, towards her class. She late for class thanks to her stupidness in setting the alarm for the evening and not the morning! Why was she such a space cadet!? She slid to a stop at the door, opening it as he panted from the sudden exercise. She saw that everyone was partnered up so she moved to the teacher. “I am so sorry I am late!” She told her, looking to Fletcher then to the other kids. She realized that everyone had a partner but Fletcher so she smiled to him. “Looks like we are partners today.” she told him as she moved to pull her seat to were Fletcher’s was.

Fletcher looked to Zane as she came through the door. No, no , no! She should have just stayed home! As Zane mentioned that they’d be partners, he went to protest before the teacher just blatantly shook her head and walked back to her desk. Ugh! The imp moved to his seat and sat down. He really didn't feel like working with anyone today but if he didn't want to fail the assignment then he had to suck it up. “Since you weren't here… we are supposed to draw and make a society. Rules, laws and everything so that it runs smoothly.” He tried to explain to her as he pulled out the project key. “We can share this till the end of class. Maybe we can meet at the library after classes to try and finish it.” He mentioned, thinking it'd be better to get it done as soon as possible.

Zane listened as he explained the project, interested by the topic. “Oh. That’s pretty neat. So do we make a village or something like that?” She asked curiously, pulling out a pencil and her notebook so she could start taking notes on what they wanted. “Hmm. Okay, so maybe come up with a laws similar to ours? No killing, stealing… all that.” She mused, looking to him as he offered to meet at the library. “Oh, sure. We can definitely do that.” She smiled to him, glad he seemed to be warming up to her. He certainly didn’t look enthused to be working with her at all so the invite was a surprise for sure. “I will let my mom and brother know that I will be a bit late today.” She told him, before looking over the project key.
Quote:
Fletcher was relieved that she accept his invitation, especially since he had a bunch of other projects and homework to do for the rest of the week. “I think it is definitely wise to finish this as soon as we can. I don’t know what your class load looks like but I know mine has hours upon hours of homework and projects.” He explained to her. He shifted a bit in his seat before nodding to her. “As for your ideas on the laws, I agree. We should have something like that in place but since it is a village with a certain amount of people.. It may not be wise to toss wrong doers in jail. Especially if they have an important job.” He mused, tapping his pencil on the desk.

Zane listened to Fletcher muse his ideas to her, agreeing with him completely. “You have a valid point. Maybe we could do a fine based punishment or something, like… If the gardener steals from their neighbor then they owe the neighbor what he stole and then some? For murder, maybe the murderer takes over the victim’s job as punishment?” She mentioned, trying to think of other ideas that may work. She wondered what Fletcher had in mind as she started to sketch out what kind of tribe land they would have. When the other gave ideas, Zane would start writing them out to keep track of them.

Fletcher relaxed a bunch when Zane seemed to actually be a hardworking student. He had expected her to be one of those lazy half assed students that don’t put in any work and rely on the other partner. Guess he should have judge her so soon just because she was late. “I’m not so sure those ideas would work.” He told her, explaining to her why he would think they wouldn’t work then giving her more ideas on what they could try. It was actually really nice to bounce off ideas with another nightmare. “So what kind of stuff do we want grown by our tribe? I was thinking some basic veggies and maybe some fruit trees?” He pushed out ideas, trying to make it easier on the both of them to get this project completed.

Zane smiled even though Fletcher had disagreed with her initial idea. He did have very valid reasons why her ideas may not work as intended so she dropped those ones and thought up more ideas with her imp partner. When he mentioned the kind of produce that could be around their tribe, she smirked a bit. “I actually think that is a pleasant idea. Perhaps their fruits are bountiful compared to other places and could use them for trades.” She mused more, sketching up some crops on their little map. Just as they were about to really start getting into it, the bell rang. “Darn. Alright. Let’s pack up. Think up some ideas and we will connect in the library after school.” She confirmed with him.

Fletcher was writing stuff down like crazy and musing ideas back and forth with the other. “I think that would work. Seems fairly reasonable.” He told her, seeing her sketch and smiling. “Looking really good, Zane.” He complimented, hearing the bell ring. He started to pack up his stuff, smiling to the other. “Sounds good. I will be there as fast as I can. My last class today is across campus so it may take me a few minutes.” He warned as he slung his bag over his shoulder. “I’m glad we are partners. I think we are going to make the best village in our class.” He laughed with a genuine smile before waving goodbye to her and heading off to his next class.

Zane got up as well and packed up her supplies. She actually had a lot of fun with her partner and was looking forward to working more on their project after school. “Not a problem. I will get everything set up and ready for when you make it there.” She reassured him, a bright smile lighting her face. “I am glad we are partners too! Let’s make the best village!” She laughed a bit as she pulled her bag onto her shoulder. “ I will see you later.” She smiled again, waving back as she followed him out of the classroom and began the short walk to math.
