Hobbies:. Robots- From a young age, Jamie thought robots were cool. Between building his first hexabug and seeing giant robots on TV, he got hooked. He loves the idea of making something that can move on its own, perform tricks, and be a companion. His grandparents, noticing his interests, have gotten him (cheap) DVDs of long-gone shows like Gundam, Medabots, and Zoids. He also likes the new Voltron, also for its robots. As he's grown up, he has gotten more and more into robotics, and now is on the robotics team. He cares a lot about making not only good robots, but ones that won't be scrapped if they're not good enough.
. Super Sentai- Go Go Power Rangers! Jamie grew up with Power Rangers on TV. He was amazed to see this sort of live action in otherwise cartoon-heavy children's television. While it was often pretty silly, he loved the robots (and monster designs). After going through as many Power Rangers seasons as he could, he found subtitled sentai series online, and has since gotten into a few of the more modern seasons, as well as some Kamen Rider. It's a very niche interest, for sure.
. Kits- The boy loves to build! While Jamie has moved on to learning how to make robots from scratch, he started with kits, and still likes collecting them on the side. He has made things from Hexbugs to Gundams (and a lot in-between). He likes the concentration you have to put into it, and the required meticulousness. It helps him relax, actually.
Virtues: . Precise- Jamie tries to be on-point both in how he talks and how he works. He takes things very seriously, and does his best to avoid errors. He has ingrained this practice pretty well after working on robotics for so long and how they have no room for error, as well as his experience with aging, hard-of-hearing grandparents.
. Sensible- He's unflappable, and not prone to irrational thoughts, fits, or similar reactions. He keeps a calm head, and considers as many variables as he can before he acts. Jamie knows better than to assume the worst of any situation, or anyone, without good reason to. The same could be said for the opposite: he is understandably wary of things that seem too good to be true.
Flaws: . Narrow-thinking- Jamie is, at his core, set in his ways. He only has so much patience for people acting out, or even differently. While he's pretty collected, differing opinions can weirdly get under his skin. Jamie may try to consider a lot, he cannot consider everything, and what blindsides him hits very, very hard.
. Stoic- Jamie does not show a whole lot of emotion, even while talking about his special interests. Jamie is pretty gruff overall. Even while he talks about deep interests and other things that make him happy, all that changes is the speed of his speech, turning into a fast ramble. Otherwise, he doesn't exhibit empathy through tone or facial expression for the most part, and this easily can come across as disinterest in current conversation at best or not listening at all at worst. It makes him less approachable, plus harder to read. A combination like that is very hard to work with in social situations. He can certainly smile, and there is picture evidence of this, but he is very much the type for neutral-faced contentment. Of note is that Jamie is aware of this social issue. He knows he can practice how he acts and talks to be less gruff, but he chooses not to. Unsurprisingly, Jamie has something of a difficult time making friends between his rebuffing demeanor and unwillingness to do anything about it.
