Child Description ☼ At ten years old, Lapela is among the very most petite of her race. She is short of stature and relatively lean due to constant activity. Despite finding that her spirit resonates most closely with her deceased mother (and tending to use 'she' pronouns because of it), Pepe has almost boyish features: round chin, button nose, and wide neon-purple eyes. Freckles are spattered across the bridge of her nose and out to her cheeks, mingling with the scales there.
Lapela has dark orange-tangerine colored skin, and her scales are patterned in stripes of peppy blue-violet and white along the sides of her face, the sides of her ribs, and down closer to her hips. Her short and curly hair matches her scales, starting in that same tone of blue, and ombreing down to a wispy almost-white near the tips.
Like others of her race, Lapela has sprouted several sets of fins. Both her ears have grown to be finned, as well as sets along her forearms and calves for quick movement through the water. Her fins are very slightly browner than her main skin tone. Two sets of gills are on either side of her neck. Pepe is adorned in styles customary of her homeland, including long, bunched, and draping fabrics decorated with shells and beads. She loves to dress up in whatever she can and will happily deck herself out in jewelry!
Apprentice Description ☼ Lapela has grown into the beginnings of an adventurer. Her hair has grown out, spilling in blue waves down her back in her efforts to appear as a 'beautiful' woman, as her father often says her mother was. Pepe is torn between wanting to be classically beautiful and living a life of rambunctious play. Though she tries her best to keep her features pretty, she is adorned in scratches, and her clothes are tattered from her constant activity.
Otherwise, she is mostly unchanged from earlier years. She still has quite nonexistent breasts and minimal curves. She's still very short and thin as compared with others of her race, but Lapela is striving to develop the muscle tone of someone who can fend for themselves and protect those who she hopes will one day journey with her.
Personality ☼ Lapela has grown being raised by a single father who takes more of a ‘best friend’ role, rather than a guardianship one. At her young age, she and her dad spend much of their time together playing make-believe and telling fairy tale stories to each other. Pepe doesn’t want anymore guidance or structure than that, and her father, Ridoa is too happy to oblige. As such, she lives almost singularly in a world of her own imagination. She enjoys pulling others into her games and stories, and her cuteness, adaptability to changing circumstance and insertion of new people, as well as her creativity have won her many friends of her age… and a bit younger.
As she ages, Lapela will find that she still gets along best with people in that younger tier-childlike age, who enjoy playing pretend and don’t have the stresses of adulthood to concern themselves with. She makes a game out of everything: scavenging for food by playing ‘hide and seek’ with her target, trips to the market (or through the grass to nowhere) as though she is a warrior on a grand and arduous adventure, combating those who make fun of her as if they are full-fledged monsters. This is, unfortunately, the type of world she will live in for quite a while, and she takes a happy-go-lucky, almost oblivious approach to dealing with it, without a fear or even a proper understanding of very few things.
Because many of her teachings have been neglected in favor of playtime, Lapela doesn’t have a great understanding of the realities of her world. She isn’t afraid of predators, bullies, starvation, or homelessness, and will very readily stand up to people who say things she thinks are incorrect.
She is a huffy, puffy, playful, smiling puffer fish, derpily moving through the world and being cute.
Pepe’s father is (while not necessarily neglectful) not a great teacher, role-model, or trendsetter and finds it a bit easier to control her seamlessly by letting Lapela pretend that everything she’s doing (like small chores of gathering, staying quiet when he wishes it, and going to bed on time) are her idea and something to be made a game of. He enjoys joining her and seeing her smile, but the parent aspect of parenthood is not exactly appealing to him, as he dislikes confrontation and working too hard at directing her perspective. So when he tires of their games, she’s left to her own devices to explore, make friends, and get into any potential danger.

Infant ☼ Ridoa and his mate, Telkei were a whimsical pair of Hapuna who met and lived in the large settlement of Elikapeka. Not entirely unlike her eventual daughter, Telkei was whimsical, carefree, and a bit bold. She knew early on that she wanted children and family to share adventures and gather stories and souvenirs with, and her charisma and determination and way of making complicated tasks (like raising a child) seem simple and fun won over Ridoa easily.
While his mate liked to collect, journey, and peddle (she was a wonderful saleswoman), Ridoa often felt as though he was just along for the ride. Since Telkei always seemed like she had the best ideas and was more than capable of caring for herself and him, he didn’t mind living on the sidelines and taking up a role more like a shadow to her exuberance and an assistant to her needs. Together the pair explored and gathered trinkets from as far as they could swim, all across the reef and occasionally into Ka’lei as well, collecting items, snacks, and oddities of “interest” and bringing them back to Elikapeka to sell.
It was Telkei’s wish that they do the same with a precious bundle at their side.
Though it was difficult to keep Telkei’s spirit contained to the nest for the duration of Lapela’s incubation, they managed, and were soon gifted with a single, tiny hatchling. But having an infant with them didn’t stop the pair from adventuring.
On a particularly fateful day, far out along the untamed outskirts of the reef and nearing Moakai territory, Telkei swam well out of their comfort zone and stumbled upon a bed of spiny reef tendrils and was poisoned by their touch. In her weakened state, they struggled to make it back toward the villages, but she succumbed before help could arrive, leaving Ridoa with an infant Lapela to trek back to Elikapeka without her.
Pepe is so like her mother that Ridoa can’t help but have mixed feelings about her. He knows he likes to see her smile and enjoys it when she has fun, but there are times when it is a struggle to so much as look at her. He doesn’t want her dead or gone from his life, but neither does he want to stifle the spirit that her mother held, and so, for that reason, he’s taken up a similar role that he had taken for Telkei, with the most notable and glaring difference from mother and child being that, unlike Telkei, Pepe is a child, and has been taught few notable skills and seems to have little understanding of how to make things like “her spirit” work in her favor.
Child ☼ As Lapela grows older, she begins to seriously consider the prospect of setting out on her own adventure, like her mother did. It was always in the plan, but she's starting to feel ever bolder and more confident in managing herself and her tasks. The only thing stopping her is her father's numerous 'Adventure Rules.'
At first, it was simply acquiring necessary items needed to brave the deep ocean trenches of the Moakai, but after the discovery of the rivers to the north, Lapela felt certain that such things were no longer as important to her exploration, considering the new venue. Instead, Ridoa distracted her with another new 'rule'- the rule of two. In order for Lapela to have a successful, engaging, and exciting adventure, she needed to find a special 'partner' to share it with.
Lapela eagerly searched for such a thing, but it soon became apparent that Mother Ocean would bring her a mate only in Her own time.
Lapela has settled in to the idea of waiting, and though such a thing displeases her greatly, she has been convinced that this time in particular, it is better to have patience. Instead, she fills her time thinking of her mother and what she can do to bring their spirits (and apparently physical likeness) more into alignment.

I'd also like it in a ponytail, and for her to have a seaweed-like ribbon on either side of her head to tie back her bangs. I'd like her bottoms to remain pretty much the same, except maybe with some tears/tatters/stains. I would like to change her top to something that is still wrapping around her, but maybe a bit more covering and a different color? The current wraps she has can either go under that, or be hanging down around her hips. She'd like a little box-like waist pouch for carrying stuff in (so maybe also a belt or rope to attach that to her), cuffs around the top of her ear fins, and some kind of leg bracers to shield her calves/ankles from getting scraped up as she maneuvers through the coral. Body Type: Lapela has no curves to speak of and is actually quite boyish in facial features!
