Slouched down on a park bench, Romulus sighed gustily as she flicked a hand out, shard held between two small fingers, to send her mirror wraith out. This was the part about being in the Dark Mirror court that she hadn't missed when she'd been gone the last year. The boring, aimless, repetitive part. It'd been kind of exciting in the beginning, and the wraiths were kind of cool, but they were just shadows. They came to her hand, but there wasn't anything to them. No personality, no desires or needs. Nothing. They were a tool that just happened to look semi animalistic. Still neat, she supposed, but nothing special. It was a pain in her a**, truth be told. When it wasn't dull work she was having to defend herself from judgmental, fight-happy white mooners that didn't understand what she was doing or why. The girl frowned as she realized she couldn't see the wraith anymore, and the shard in her hand was still empty. "Oh s**t, where did it go?" Could you lose a wraith? ********, she hoped not. She didn't want to have to go back to Remarque for a new one. He'd probably want an explanation. "Damnit." Oh her feet again, she scanned the darkness for any signs of the darker shadow.

Nights weren't typically for running, at least not for one Austin Lynch who tended to prefer midnight rides and street races to the pounding of his sneakers against pavement with earbuds in his ear and a steady, accelerated heartbeat, but he'd missed his morning run for one reason or another and there was just something about getting a run in that completed his day.
He had picked a path through the park closest to his parents house and his long legs carried him at a steady pace, something more relaxed while keeping up with the beats of his running playlist. He had an early morning track meet, but that didn't seem to deter him or keep him from going out as the summer heat had begun fading with the set sun and the rolling tide of night.
Still, sweat beaded down the sides of his face as he ran, his focus on the pathway ahead of him, relatively unaware of his surroundings between music, focus, and keeping his breathing even.

The shadowy, near-incorporeal bulk of the wraith dashed across the path right before the young man enjoying his evening jog. It wasn't exactly off it's leash, but it'd wandered a bit on the hunt for suitable targets, and while a fit jogger would have done the trick, there was a peacefully resting man sleeping on an unfolded stretch of cardboard only a few feet off the path. It went for the sleeper first, energy actively recharging in their rest. The wraith dipped through the a barrel broad chest, slithering through slowly before emerging out the other side. Then, sensing another strong source, it turned a featureless face towards the jogger. Some ways off still, Romulus was still looking for the wraith.

Running at night had it's down sides, Austin knew that.
Such things included the fact that everything in his peripheral vision could be a little spooky, especially in a park. With the slight night breeze causing branches to shift and trees to bend, he tried not to let his mind give him alternate explanations for something really quite simple except...
There was something positively ghastly that was passing through a sleeping dude on a bench and was...making it's way...towards him.
He slowed in his job, green eyes squinting at the creature while he tried to reason that it was nothing but his mind playing tricks on him but the closer it got the less of a trick it looked like.
His voice cleared, "alright, whomever's pulling this prank knock it off, I'm not scared." It seemed like a pointless call out and he was starting to backpedal.

There was no immediate answer, not from the shadowy wraith, and not from the one who held it's shard. She had heard, though, and with brows creases the dark mirror senshi headed in the direction she'd heard voice. How many spooky things could possibly be lingering in the park tonight? The wraith itself wasn't deterred. It continued forward on fluid appendages, intent upon it's back pedaling target.

No one revealed themselves to be the culprit and if Austin hadn't known that Katie was definitely at work (for once), he would've blamed her for attempting to pull this shitty prank on him, the damn rhino. But it wasn't her and the closer the thing got to him the creepier and well, real.
It didn't seem to matter how much he backed up, it kept advancing and at some point Austin tripped over his own long legs and found himself crashing to the ground.
s**t, the creepy banshee-or-ghost-whatever was almost upon him.
Scrambling to get up, he found his fingers wrapping around the base of something and when he swung his arm to defend himself there was a bright...light?
And his clothing had changed.
And there was some oppressive feeling that felt like weights on his spine that he couldn't describe. Plus, there was a...broken mirror in his hand.
"What the hell."
This definitely had to be some elaborate BS prank.

"Oh hello," the Dark Mirror murmured under her breath as she felt the sudden ping of a low level order aura close by. There was a chance they just happened to be there, patrolling or something, but considering the wrath she'd lost track of it was more likely they'd popped up because of that. Which meant if she followed the feel of the aura, she'd find the wraith. And if she could feel them, they could definitely feel her, so there was no point in trying t creep up on them. Romulus came strolling down the path like she owned it, hips swinging and boots snapping against the concrete. A flicker of light in one hand for the mirror shard the wraith belonged to, and when she saw the stalking shadow she held it up at arms length, calling the incorporeal beasty back to her with a flexing of will. It ceased it's progressive stalking towards the new page instantly and turned, bounding back towards the dark clad senshi and leaping into the shard in her hand. When it was gone she tucked the shard safely away, smiling as bright blue eyes flicked up to the page. Her recent run ends with order had left her feeling automatically on edge whenever she ran into one of them. They had a tendency to punch first, ask questions later. She wondered if maybe she should be the one to act first this time. Get the upper hand early and walk away with a few less bruises...

There was a feeling on the back of his neck that he couldn't describe. It made his stomach churn like it was upset and he was struggling with figuring out what the hell it meant when some girl showed up behind the weird thing attacking him.
In seconds the wraith was retreating and...disappearing into a shard.
That was weird.
Slowly, and warily, Austin climbed to his feet. He felt clunky with the chest plate and weird shin guards.
"You playing pranks?" He asked, green eyes narrowing before he couldn't help himself and let his gaze drift over her form before slowly lifting to meet her eyes. "S'not cute."

"Pranks? No." Romulus snorted, arms coming up to cross over her chest, and her hip cocked to one side. There was thinly veiled hostility in her voice, the the set of her shoulders and the way she held herself. Guarded and on edge. He hadn't made a move yet aside from getting back to his feet, but she wasn't about to relax in front of him. She didn't trust him not to attack. "You here to play hero? Chase me out of the park and away from anyone lingering in the dark?" her lip curled, fingers curling where they rested against her own arms.

His fist was tight around the mirror's handle and green eyes narrowed at the short woman standing yards away from her.
"The hell are you talking about?" He shot back, unease settling between the spaces of his spine as he watched her. "You're the one that let that ********' whatever-that-thing was loose. How'd you do it? Holograms?"
He stepped forward without thought, intrigued by her boldness.
"I'm not really one to play hero, I don't know what the hell you're talking about," Austin shot back, still trying to figure out what the hell she was talking about and what that uncomfortable feeling on the back of his neck was from.
"Are you the reason I feel...something weird?"

It wasn't the surety of response she was used to getting and it made her payse, brows creased and eyes narrowed. "A hologram? Dude you're in a kilt holding a mirror.". Hey her opinion he was intoo deep not to guess the wriath was there and real. She could feel him, he was absolutely a knight. But it was starting to sound like he hasn't been at this very long. Like maybe had just awakened. Or not long after. He seemed so new. "The feeling at the back of your head, like if you closed your eyes you'd see it?" This was weird. But maybe she could painta kinder picture of her court to this new knight

Dark, thick brows furrowed and he looked at her as if she was crazy.
"That's beside the point," he countered, waving his hand dismissively. "You aren't exactly rocking everyday wear yourself." Granted, her outfit was more normal than his, still short and lowcut enough to give him something nice to look at but he wouldn't have called it something she could have easily picked up online or in a store.
Maybe.
He didn't actually know anything about women's clothing.
"Kinda? It's a feeling that I've never had before and it's not exactly my definition of a fun feeling." Green eyes squinted and he dared to step forward again, curious to see how the short girl would react. Or if that thing would come back again. "S'not exactly rush inducing. It's kind of boring."

"Missed the point, Brutus." She chuckled. "I mean you're all gussied up in magical attire and you still doubt question if the wraith was real or a hologram." That, or he was in denial. Who knew. He took a step forward and the smile faded a little around the edges, tension beginning to tighten her shoulders as she looked up at him. He was tall, and rookie or not, he was probably strong enough to do a fair bit of damage if he could get his hands on her. She let her hands fall to her sides, loose but ready. "What you're feeling is chaos. I'm guessing you haven't run into many Negaverse or senshi from teh Dark Mirror Court yet."

He was squinting at her, like he was still waiting for someone to pop out and go gotcha!
"You're spouting a lot of nonsense that doesn't mean a whole lot to me," he told her, but he didn't take another step. He knew what this could look like if certain people were around.
He wasn't exactly beefy but he had muscle. He was a runner, his body reflected that but he was also large and that made a difference.
"Babe, I don't know what you're ******** talking about."

If he just stayed where he was they could have a nice little chat and no one would have to get hurt. Romulus wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty from time to time, but when she didn't need to throw down she preferred not to. "It's not nonsense," she countered, tone dipping just a bit into impatience before she just rolled her eyes and shook her head at him. "And it should mean something to you. Jesus, how new are you?" She didn't recognize the symbols on him so she couldn't tell him which planet he followed, and she sure as ******** didn't have any clue as to how they figured out what their names were. "You're a knight," she pointed out. "Well, specifically a page, but in the order of knights." A hand came up to cut off any protest before she could continue. "I know it sounds crazy, but you can feel me, you're dressed like you just stepped out of The Gladiator, and I'll bet you didn't walk out of the house that way."
