Basic Information
The firearm uses a vertical reciprocating bolt and firing mechanism, allowing the overall length of the weapon to be shortened substantially. The weapon is gas operated, using a long stroke annular gas piston located around the barrel and a vertically moving bolt, which makes possible to minimize the length of the receiver group substantially. A U-shaped rammer/extractor is used to chamber and extract the cartridge by pushing it into the chamber where after discharge was pulled back from the chamber and again, upon feeding the new cartridge, pushed forward and slightly up into an ejection tube above the barrel where finally exiting above the muzzle. Due to this ejection mechanism it is possible to fire from both right and left arm positions without the fear of cases hitting the user. These weapons has one of the best barrel length to overall length ratios of modern assault rifles, and is roughly the same size as a P90 with a 16.3 inch barrel, or 20 inches long. Firing from an unstable position, the TKB-022PM No. 1 and the TKB-022PM No. 2 in testing had three times better accuracy than the AKM, despite using the same cartridge. Although these assault rifles performed well, they were turned down by the Soviet army for being too radical at that time. Additionally, there were concerns about the displaced center of gravity to the tail end of the weapon and the durability of the weapon's plastic housing during prolonged operations under difficult conditions or during storage. However, due to the short overall length, low weight, low recoil, and superior ergonomics, as well as improved polymer housing, it is considered a superior weapon's platform, that perfectly compliments the more accurate 6.2mm SAW cartridge. The weapon due to it's size, recoil, and cartridge weight can easily replace a submachine gun or PDW, like the P90, while still maintaining the power of a full sized assault rifle, making it an excellent close quarters combat weapon as well as a general purpose firearm.
The weapon utilizes an aluminum cased 6.2mm cartridge, which given it's 7.15 gram bullet, 2 gram case, and 2.2 grams of powder, is a mere 11.35 grams in weight. This is slightly lighter weight than the 5.56mm x 45mm NATO cartridge, 9mm parabellum and .30 carbine cartridge, at 12.5 grams, being approximately 10% lighter weight. In addition, it is significantly more powerful, possessing 2600 joules from a 16 inch barrel, more than the 7.62mm x 39mm at 2200 joules which is 16.3 grams. Using a similiar case to the 7.62mm x 39mm or .220 Russian, it is made of aluminum instead, which is three times lighter weight than steel, dropping the cartridge weight from 6 grams to 2 grams. The aluminum cased is coated in a thin amount of polymer, like used in 12 gauge shells, and a silicone lubricant which is designed to prevent fires and galling from the aluminum. In addition, the bolt and chamber are coated in a thin, smooth, abrasion and corrosion resistant nitride material which does not gall with aluminum. This helps prevent the galling and powder residue build up of many previously aluminum cased rounds, which could lead to premature weapon degradation or in extreme cases, fires. The round has a BC of .626, which is high in comparison to cartridges like the 5.56mm or 7.62mm x 39mm, or even the 7.62m x 51mm NATO, at .2 to .35 BC. It also has superior accuracy, at the price of a more expensive cartridge, as the 6mm rounds have inherently good performance. The maximum range of the cartridge is 1400 meters, when it crosses the super sonic barrier and retains approximately 500 joules, which is far further than the 5.56mm NATO at 550 yards, or even the 7.62mm NATO at 850 yards. The cartridge still retains as much energy as the 5.56mm does at the muzzle out to x yards, and 1000 joules, equal to that of a .357 magnum at x yards. This makes it well suited for both marksmen and suppression roles, as the longer range and higher accuracy allows it to easily be used in the hands of a trained marksmen to suppress or incapacitate enemy forces, while in the hands of a riflemen or SAW gunner allows for easy long range suppression. Given it's longer range than the 7.62mm NATO, it blurs the line between intermediate and full sized cartridges, making it suitable in the general purpose machine gun role.
In the standard configuration the rifle is a mere 6.2 pounds, and with an overall length of 20.6 inches (525mm), is quite small, roughly the same size as the P90. This allows for seamless transition in and out of vehicles, in close quarters, and in general from short range to long range, providing an easier time handling and maneuvering. Given further the low recoil and cartridge weight, it is an easy replacement for a sub-machine gun, while also maintaining the same properties as an assault rifle. Given the extremely long range of the 6mm cartridge and it's good barrier penetration, it also makes for a good overall general purpose cartridge, allowing it to in part fulfill the role of a sub-machine gun, assault rifle and battle rifle.
