The bank made good on its promise — after closing the sale, it released the keys to the house to its new owners: Chailee Sterling's parents and one Blythe Clemmons. The bank left the house full of dust, debris, and bad memories. Paintings and prints and tables and chairs and sofas, all kept pristine at one time, now sat musty in its confines. Glass littered the floor where a break-in occurred; thus disappeared all the jewelry, fine and cheap, out of the master bedroom. And while there was no sign of trauma — no blood, no bone, no spray-painted outlines on the floor — houses kept memories in worse ways.

Sometimes those memories were simple treasures left behind. Sometimes those memories pressed themselves into the walls, finer than soot, and soaked into the sheetrock and wood. There they festered like an untreated wound, poisoning the ambience. They leaked into the air like a miasma. Like a pall that never lifted.

There was something eerie about walking into a house where trauma happened. Some could brush it off. Others were more sensitive to it, casing dread out of empty-eyed paintings or ghosts from a once-loved tea room. And while newspaper clippings concerning the house were vague, hesitant to disclose details concerning the house's history, enough remained to garner suspicion: Child Disappeared, Mother of Two Found Dead in Her Home, Family Dissolved by Grief.

But morning sunlight peering through the windows had chased away that dread. In its place were floors dappled with sunlight, thick slats peering through blinds where they remained on some of the windows, and an overall glow inside the house that bespoke the architect's vision. Great arches through some of the hallways caught the sun's radiance and, coupled with the wall color, refracted it down into a rich gold ambience. It warmed skin tones and spotlighted the dust motes sent dancing into the empty spaces. It warmed couches turned grey from dust. It shined through the layers on lacquered wood tables. It heated the air hanging between displayed prints of popular paintings. If there was truth to malign happenings lingering in a house, if there was truth to magic nurturing such occurrences, the sun's brilliance smothered it.

All that remained was a sterile cheer waiting for another group of occupants.

Thanks, everyone, for agreeing to this little plot! I'd like to lay down a couple OOC clarifications --

This is a moving day RP! And since it is an open-ended civ RP with a lot of people invited, I thought it would be best to lay a couple rules. First, please denote at the top of your post whether your character is upstairs or downstairs. This will help divide up the groups.

Second, as characters start to settle in and form connections, please feel free to transition into a PRP! This allows you to claim the ORP for growth/crown token requirements while opening up more in-depth interaction. If you want Eion to be able to drop in, please quote me and let me know!

I didn't specifically map out which rooms were where or what the layout of the house was because I wanted to give some leeway there. There is, however, a kitchen, dining room, tea room, study, foyer, and library included with the variable number of bedrooms and bathrooms. The house does have multiple floors, an attic, and a basement. It has a lot of high-end trimmings like crown moulding and gas fireplaces and the like, but comes with all the strengths and weaknesses of new construction.

Upstairs

Seren stood in her new room... It almost felt like ROOMS, it was so big... She'd actually managed to fit all of her furniture from her old apartment in it, for ******** sake! Ratty couch, ratty armchair, cheap a** table... Her bed... All of it. She actually had trouble believing that it all fit. She was pondering hanging a long curtain, to divide the space between her bed and dressing area, and her sitting/work space... On top of all of the space, add to it that she was actually paying less rent per month here then in the apartment, and she was amazed. Sure, she had to share the kitchen with everyone, but she had her own private bathroom, and unlike at the apartment, where it was tiny and had just a shower, this had a tub, a really nice tub, in fact. She had not yet gone to meet the other occupants, but... It felt right, being here.

And she was on the other side of the uni from where the park where she met the Terrifying Man.

Also, she was now in walking distance of the park. Her bedroom had nice, big windows, and the ledges were wide enough to sit on... She thought, maybe, she might get some pillows at some point, and make window seats... If she had enough saved up. She walked over to one of them, and opened it, letting in the air. She noticed a tree with branches near hers, and laughed, thinking that cats could jump into her windows, if they wanted, from it, not that they would. She wondered if that lovely fluff Tiberius she had met would miss her... She did not think she'd have the luck of him showing up HERE too. Sadly. It was a pity, really.

She turned away from the windows, and looked over her new 'domain', satisfaction in her blue eyes, before walking to her door and opening it, thinking, maybe, she should go see who else had arrived.

Upstairs

Chailee was beyond excited! Through hard work on her part to pass her summer classes and her father wanting to get into real estate, she now was standing in her brand new room. The place she'd be calling home from now on while she attended college at DCU. Really, it worked out for her that her parents weren't QUITE ready to let her go completely. At the university, she'd be in a small room, with a roommate and utterly away from her parents. At this place, she had a room to herself, her own bathroom, and occasionally would have dinner with her parents when they requested. Plus, they could pop over just about whenever they wanted as landlords.

Smiling brightly, she flung open one of the many windows in her room before practically skipping to the door and slipping out of her room to go and see who else was moving in. Her father had told her that the rooms had all been rented out, so she was curious.

It didn't take her long to find a door open with light pouring from it. Peeking in she found another young woman. "Hey there!" Chailee beamed. "All moved in?"

Upstairs
Seren looked up, having been gazing towards the ground in a distracted way as she headed out, and blinked at the energetic young woman moving towards her. She took in the girl's bouncing, colorful curls, and her beaming smile, and Seren couldn't help responding with a similar expression of warmth. "Ah! Hello. Yeah, just got finished unpacking!"

Not that she had a lot to unpack, really, given... well, everything in her life... but she was in. "Well. Other then my box of kitchen stuff. Not sure what all should go down there... I mean, it seems to me it would be silly if, say, there were fifteen Chef's knives in the kitchen, but somehow, no spatulas or whatever. Probably something, once everyone is moved in, we should all discuss. But yeah!"

She blinked, realizing she was both rambling AND had failed to introduce herself, or ask anything in turn, and blushed a little, before continuing. "My name is Seren Yong... And you? Are you all moved in?" She held her hand out to her new housemate, her smile remaining on her face.

Upstairs

It was strange hearing life in that house. For months it sat dormant, gathering mildew and dust and stale. It stared vacantly toward its brethren, who had birthdays and holidays, Christmas dinners, family gatherings, fights and cycling tenants. But this house, the Yorke house, waited for someone else to call it home. Longer and longer the months stretched where the mortgage went unpaid until the bank repossessed it. Then, it went to market. Last, only a couple weeks ago, the sale sign became a sold sign.

And now there were noises chasing away the vacancy. Excited giggles, the patter of feet disturbing wooden floors. Eion heard voices reaching each other, initially energetic, but now died down with the seconds of a fresh face passed. They sounded like strangers to one another. A thin hand found the banister, bracing, and he peered up the stairs.

Nothing. The stairwell sat empty, with no shadows peeing out puckishly from the wall.

So he walked, each step laden with certainty. Heels thumped with his presence, all 120 pounds of boyhood announced to the upstairs denizens. He crested the stairs, rounded the opaque banister. There, pink and blue curls with her attention paid to an open doorframe. He couldn't see the other person past the wall, but heard the voice. Seren Yong? He recognized the name.

Recognized the shadow on the ground, Seren Yong was the hopeful youth who housed Tiberius, bought into his schemes, and from whom Eion needed to retrieve the atrociously conniving feline. Now she lived in his family's house, in his old bedroom, and likely embarked on the same perpetual exhaustion combined with an unplaceable aloofness. She responded well to the other girl, however; Eion elected to try his chances.

"So you're the new tenants." Eion finally crested the landing and rounded the low wall purposefully. He approached with a resoluteness that evened his step. "It must be moving day."

Upstairs

Later in the day than she would have liked Jack wandered into the beautiful old house with a look about her that suggested she wasn't entirely sure she was in the right place. That perhaps she'd gotten the address wrong, the street name, something wrong, but she'd checked and checked again and this was indeed the place location her Google maps had led her too. It was just so darn big!

The dark skinned girl chewed at her lower lips as she tucked her phone away into the pocket of her skirt and stooped to retrieve the box she'd at on the floor when she'd arrived. There were voice coming from upstairs, no doubt belonging to some of her new roommates, though she couldn't make out what they were saying. It would probably be a good idea to introduce herself to whomever was already settling in. Or at the very least make her presence known.

With that in mind she moved towards the stairs and started up them, slowing in her progression only as she came to the open doorway. "Uh, Hi," she announced shyly, f;ashing the three people inside a bright smile before recognition widened bright eyes. "Oh my God, Seren?" Well wasn't that a happy surprise!

She was certain she didn't know the other two, but she radiated friendliness at them all the same.
