Kaya's brows scrunched up together as they stared at a hard back cover of a book. What---was this? What was a DnD? They said it was a game but this---this looked like a book to them! Sure there were rule manuals in board games but who honestly went through that?? Why when they could make up the rules themselves. It was a much better game that way! But---curiousity still plagued their mind. Just what is it? Their eyes flitted up towards the freshling near them. The one who knew how to play. Would they help them out? Or would that be too much trouble? It was a pretty big book... And they really weren't the type to be the reading type. They were more......of a hands on learner. "Ah--" They raised a hand before lowering it. "Do you know how to play this?" They picked up the book to show them. "I got to the first page but there are so many big words...I can't understand it." They shook their head, their braid swaying to and fro. The hybrid wished Senuna was there. They were smart. They would know. "But maybe you know?" It was worth a shot, at least. They didn't see anyone else around.

Rayleigh looked at the other freshling and then the large hard cover book. He nodded, reaching out to touch the smooth surface. "It is D&D and some of it..." He was just starting to learn how to make his own characters and his fathers had been helping him. "I know you need dice and character sheets and what sort of character do you want to play? We can look at the pictures of the races and the classes and go from there? " He paused looking through his bag to find his dice and pencils and paper. Lets see…”Um, which one do you want to use?” He questioned offering the other freshling a choice of pens and pencils.

"Dee and Dee." That was such a weird name. Kaya made a face. Never really heard of it. Although, the whole reason why Kaya was there, was to play a game that sounded like it. Idly, they looked at the book. What did it stand for? What did it mean? Kaya could barely read! At least this person knew! Kaya's tail thumped happily against the chair that they were sitting in, quite pleased with themselves. "Can you teach me?" so they wouldn't look like such a fool in front of all the others. But they didn't have dice...they frowned as they thought. "Can I make them out of paper?" they had a few slips. Not much but really, how many dice would they need?! There was a way to make a paper box wasn't there? They were sure a kid had taught them once but it had been so long ago. Hm. "Races and classes?" Kata looked up. Man, but they didn't want to go to class! They were hoping to avoid it. But...there was no helping it now. "Sure," Uhm, how did they find a race? Was that out of the book? In the book. They hesitantly placed a claw on the hardback cover and looked to Rayleigh. Oh man, this really might be a part of a class. They stuck their tongue out, eyeing each pencil before taking the brightest one out of the bunch. Maybe they'd keep it for later. Rayleigh wouldn't notice..right?

"I think I can teach you,"Rayleigh said, considering it. "Or at very least help you... my dad's help me." He admitted and slipped up and next to Kaya, Pencils and paper on the desk and then a other book. He opened the book, flipping through it and stop at the classes." "Like this one.. this one is dragonborn. It is a class... like a type of warrior. Do you play video games?" He questioned, trying to find what would be easy to explain it. "I don't think you can make good dice out of paper... you could borrow mine for a bit while we make your character?"

Kaya's eyes, once clouded over with confusion lit up at the offer of Rayleigh helping them out. "Oh I would love that, thank you!" they wiggled in their seat excitedly. Someone to play games with would be so fun! Kaya had tried it by themselves at one point and the game got too boring! It was too easy to cheat and win! What was the fun in that? "Your dad plays it too?!" They stared, awestruck. This must be a grown up game! Maybe, if they knew the way to play it, they would somehow become a grown up too! It sounded like an excellent idea to them. The sooner they grew up, the sooner their friend would be proud of them! "Oooohh, a dragon born." they looked at the picture, mystified. "Do they exist?" They wondered aloud. With all the nightmares they've seen, they wouldn't be surprised if someone like that was walking the halls. But...wasn't this game make pretend? Oh, they didn't know. There were so many words. And to make it worse, they didn't play video games! That--that was something that their parents and friend were super against! They shook their head sadly. "I heard they are supposed to be fun tho!" they offered sheepishly. "I've always played board games. And duck duck goose!" Maybe it was like those games? "I can be a warrior!" Unlike some freshlings, Kaya wasn't one to be picky of what piece or color they were. As long as they got to play, it was a-okay with them! And this nightmare...was so generous! They beamed. "I can?" They started reaching over without waiting for an answer. "But..what do I do with them afterwards?"

"My dads have been playing awhile," Rayleigh said, and paused looking closer at the character. "Maybe it is a race? I sort of forget on this one... there is a lot of things that have dragons with it." Rayleigh hummed looking at it closer. "And I sort of get them confused after a while." He muttered, embarrassed. "But there are a lot of races and classes and I guess what do you like? Sometimes it best to play classes that involve things you already like doing! Specially if you want to dress up as that character and act out all the things!" Rayleigh clapped his hands excited and paused. "Oooh you roll them! So you can figure out your characters stats. They help you choice how smart or strong or clever your character is." (I can't believe it but his dads are totally larpers)

"Whoa," Kaya's eyes, as wide as can be, stared at the books and papers that littered the table. "A while..." that was a long time. That was like... months, maybe even a year. Their mouth popped open, completely surprised. "They must be super experts in it!" They must know everything. In the hybrid grimm's mind, that was...that was amazing. They had to know this game now. To be a grown up. To actually know how to live on their own and survive. Their tail wagged slowly as they thought. That'd be so cool. Now starry eyed at the idea, she took all the information in, nodding with passion at everything that Rayleigh said. "I'm gonna be a warrior then!" they claimed, jumping up on top of their seat and placing a foot on the table, prideful. "It fits!" She had no problem standing up against anyone. Or---well---okay. Anyone that was of her age and were being really mean. Teachers and adults were scary okay?! The fist that they were holding close to their chest valiantly started to fall. "I don't have any warrior clothes!" They pursed their lips. What---could they dress up as? "What do you think looks the most like me?" their nixie fins twitched, curious. Acting did sound fun though----and something that an adult would do! "Roll." the word itself rolled off their tongue as they tried to make sense of the word, getting down from standing and grabbing the dice that she grabbed and randomly rolling them. "Like that?" They stared at the numbers. What---did she do with them now?

Rayleigh paused and started to scoot around papers and got a dark purple pen out to start writing with. He hummed looking over the dice. "You roll the six sided ones.. the cube ones." He gathered them. "And my dads always say roll five and take the highest three of the dice. And then you just write the total down on the sheet." "And you roll them umm.." He paused, counting on his fingers, wisdom, intelligence, charisma, dexterity, strength, and um constitution. "Six times! And anything below ten you can roll again.." "After you get all your numbers you can put them where they do the most good for your character!" Rayleigh clapped his hands together. "And then we do other things and ooh." "Clothes? You can get them at a lot of places or make them!"

Kaya nodded, a bit unsure and eyed the dice that she had so rudely taken. The cube ones. Cube ones. That was like a box right? She picked up two box like dice and hunted for two others like the other freshling instructed. She wasn't great at math, adding numbers was still very difficult for her, but she was going to try! In order to roll all four dice she had to hold them in both of her claws before throwing them on the table. Great! She got--her tongue stuck out as she tried to count on her claws. "What's five plus eight?" she cocked her head to the side. Her claws didn't go past ten...which was where she had issues. She could add the two four's together but not the five to it! "Should I go get a calculator?" Teachers called it cheating. Kaya, however; called it using her own resources. It wasn't like math was going to be super important for every day life anyway. She knew how to use money and give money. That's all that mattered. Adding and subtracting wasn't involved in all of that. And hey, if she didn't know, another kid was bound to know. She was good at asking for other's help! There..was something else. Two words that Rayleigh mentioned Kaya had know idea about. Dexterity. Constitution. What were those? Wisdom and intelligence had to be the same thing. Charisma was how...happy someone is? And strength was self explanatory. But...what about the other two? She had already asked about how to add, she might as well ask about that. "What's dexterity and constitution?" Rayleigh seemed to be a master at this . They seemed to know what they were talking about. She wondered what other things they could do, how to make clothes or get them but right now she didn't even know how to add the numbers together!

"Oooo! There is a way to do that." Rayleigh held out his hands, all five fingers on one hand and then three on the other. "So eight, then add five. So one and two," he said, lowering his fingers. "So that is ten, and then close all but one finger on one hand to stand for the ten." He left his pinky up. "And then keep counting on the other. Soo three , four, and five means we have three... so it is thirteen." "It can help some... the larger the number though the harder it is to do." He admitted. "Umm, constitution is health.. and dexterity is like agility, like being able to touch your toes." He had watched his fathers sometime have trouble reaching down to gather things up.
